Impeachment=Violence

MilqueMurtry in his inimitable bland best suggests no meaningful precedent will be set. It’s already been set. The Capitol was stormed. Not imaginary.

Hmmm on that past he was referring to potential precedent set by future action. Maybe you could link to anther post where he made this ridiculous comment?

Ignore him. It’s his MO. On another thread he’s mischaracterizing what ranger posted to infer he’s a racist.

Pence is unwelcome in his home state, which voted in favor of President Trump at nearly 70% .....
He needs a home...

Anyone need another backstabbing traitor in their neighborhood?

Careful Mas, the country doesn't take traitorous terrorist threats very well.

Mods could be reporting you right now.

Your fantasy world is collapsing on you.

You are the enemy of the state.

I’m an old Cold Warrior, and it saddens me that I now view my fellow countrymen of Trump supporters the same as I viewed the Soviets.

The Cruz’s, Hawley’s, and Gaetz’s of the world are even more dangerous, as their threat is from within. I’m not optimistic on democracy surviving long term.

According to some expert on MSNBC, the Senate can still take up the impeachment after 1/20 and even if Trump’s not convicted with 2/3, barring him from future engagements is separate and only requires a simple majority. (Iiuc)

I have read some similar things. Seems like a no brainer.

Except the Soviet's had a strategy. The right wing terrorists just want to murder people they disagree with.

I disagree. I think there’s a strategy underway by a segment of the Republican Party to embrace an autocracy. I’ve never believed that all Trumpers are just rubes and useful idiots. I think there’s a larger segment than we want to admit of politicians and citizens, that are all in on replicating Russia’s model of governing.

They are opposed to a multi culture, one person, one vote system. They don’t even hide their disdain for traditional American democracy anymore. They look at the current and future demographics, and realize they’re going to be done winning presidential elections soon under our current constitutional system.

What amazes me most about these clowns is that they act like a huge majority of the citizenry buy into their hate message. They act like everyone believes it. Not so at all. We know Trump got <50% of the total votes in both 2016 and 2020.

Anyone care to take a guess what pct. Trump received in that Trumpian hotbed, Indiana? (only 57 % in both 2016 and 2020).

In Missouri? Just under 57% in 2020.

Idaho anyone? 64% in 2020

The only place that message sells at all is in sparsely populated rural states, and it doesn't fool anyone else. The flipping of Arizona and Georgia and almost North Carolina looks a trend to me.

I grew up at the end of the cold War and didn't truly understand it then.

But yes, I have seen the Stalin argument for the Trump phenomenon. Stalin and Mussolini.

Bottom line for me is these people truly believe they are Patriots.

I heard whispers that if they break off it will fork into a 'Patriot Party'.

They are not patriots.

Like you said, it's crept internally. Right now the republican party is getting eaten from the inside.

Will the country be next.

I don't believe so, I think the world is collapsing on Trumpism. Thank goodness.

What I've been noticing is their appeal to the working class.

That's the game and it's one the dems better take very seriously.

Dems have been painted as college educated, coastal elite snobs that have never swung a hammer.

Bernie isn't wrong in his declarations. The working class is gaining strength.

Other than that, it's pretty bleak for Republicans. Young people growing up under Trump will forever paint Republicans a lunatics.

If you watch fox, they are pivoting to the working class. They are lumping pubs and dems as 'the establishment'.

Basically they are pivoting into IGW's world.

Which is weird because Bernie is the King of the working class and Bernie is supposedly a pure evil communist in their eyes.

That being said, I want unity, but I get put off when I hear 'you need to pay attention to us' which I respond, no not really, you need to hear us. We have 7 million more and gaining as time goes on.

This.

There’s a whole lot of overlap with Trumpers and Bernie heads. I have a 24 year old female that works for me. She’s an all out Bernie supporter, but spouts off a lot of the same stuff you’d here from a MAGA person. They get a lot of their information from the same sources (Russian bots?).

After Biden won the nomination, she said he’s a racist and Wall Street puppet. Attributed quotes and policy positions to Biden that were completely untrue. She was surprised and leery when I told her Biden served as Obama’s VP for 8 years. Her sources told her he was a wealthy businessman before running for President. She’s anti vaccine and believes a few QAnon inspired theories.

She’s a great kid and employee, btw.

I think that intersection in the road where Bernie Bros and Trumpers meet will determine American politics for the short term, at least.

Lots of good points but I’d add the obvious that the rural/urban divide is marked and I don’t know how we address that going forward. It’s not about just having 7 million more

Bernie and Trump supporters are two sides of the same coin. First are just younger and live in urban areas, while the latter are more rural, white older guys.

As someone that thought more than once about the possible violent fallout from a Trump election victory, I have to echo the sentiment that you don’t decide to impeach/ not impeach based on the mob.

Glad she is a good employee as she sounds like a complete idiot. A 24 year old that does not remember Biden was a VP? It was freaking 4 years ago.

I can speculate on two or three points.

1. Most of the ****wits on this board are helpless poseurs who parrot Salon and Huff Po in a failed attempt to appear knowledgeable

2. The hypocrisy infecting 'progressives' will likely prove terminal.

Non-speculative: Biden will never be President of anything other than a cell in Guantanamo

Keep coming with the info. Much appreciated.

Can you share the details with us, or is this being held tight by the cabal?

I was honestly shocked that Wed was the first violent episode. Starting impeachment at this moment is insane unless you are unafraid of more people dying. I can't imagine what may befall this country in the event of an impeachment. There's a time and place for reckoning, but this ain't it.

Not sure what you're threatening, but the Twentieth Amendment states: " If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President."

You seem to be pushing for Harris to become President next week.

I was thinking about something earlier today on how we might be coming to an inflection point in the US and it’s not really related to Trump.

When I was younger and growing up (think late 80’s early 90’s) I had very little understanding of life in places like the UK or continental Europe other than things like Oktoberfest or other well known cultural touch-points. With the advent of cable television and the internet my world opened up and I got to see that these so called socialist countries were, in fact, perfectly ok without an American style government and individualism. I also went overseas when I was 21 and experienced it up close. It changed my life. It really did. THESE PEOPLE ARE PERFECTLY HAPPY.

I think we’re coming to a point where Republicans are going to become a minority party nationally not simply because of demographics. The divide, exemplified by Bernieism, Trumpism, populism, etc., will be based on many Americans wondering why we continue to shun socialism lite policies like MFA options for health insurance or subsidized secondary education programs. People can look across the pond and see countries like Germany and France and can wonder why the above programs are getting the hyperbole treatment from Republicans (creeping communism, etc). Now, I don’t think the far left has the ability to do much of anything but there is an opportunity for a realignment where the “middle” becomes a bloc that agrees there can be socialist lite type solutions to some of our largest problems (healthcare being the big one).

My political bent is a bit to the left as it relates to how the government can be involved in people’s lives. Mainly though I’m for who can solve a goddamn problem. I’m sick and tired of the bomb throwing, dipshit congress men and women who are fine getting on Fox or MSNBC to read from a script but can’t get anything done in their freaking day job.

There is a large voting bloc in this country which would vote for problem solvers. However our media isn’t putting that on TV because it’s not sexy. It’s not click bait. IT’S HARD. IT TAKES PATIENCE AND THE STORIES ARE TEN THOUSAND WORDS LONG. So I’m flummoxed. We’re stuck in a cycle of blame and response. I know this time one side has really taken it a new level with Trump. But he’s going to be gone in two weeks. Then what? Yes I know we will still have Cruz and Hawley and AOC and Pelosi and McConnell. I know we have the government we deserve. So it’s going to take us being educated voters. I have hope for most of the people on this board the rest of the country? That scares the shit out of me.

I feel like I’m wandering around trying to find leaders and elected officials who are focused solely on solving the country’s problems as opposed to getting on TV. Options are limited. I hope that’s the change we see over the next few years or else we’re screwed.

Rant over. Maybe Browns-Steelers will be decent. At least IU won.

Welp. Guess that’s a no on Steelers-Browns game. Yikes

The Dems haven't helped the cause by keeping the same person as their leader in the House for 20 fkn years. A totally absurd situation.

I haven’t done a headcount, but I think most of those countries are parliamentary. Our election system is binary. Which ever party wins the majority of seats in the Senate or the House controls it for the next two years. And the presidency is elected independent of the Senate and the House.

Because that’s written into the Constitution, that’s the last thing that’s going to change in the United States. So we have a binary system that swings back-and-forth like a pendulum.

Furthermore we have a rural and urban divide that is substantially different in terms of lifestyle. One thing Trump has shown is that the rural segment of our population has a very strong opinion.

Who, McConnell?
I love the hypocritic way McConnell said a couple days ago that there wasn't time to consider impeachment before the end of Trump's term. How silly and dishonest.

McConnell had the Senate confirm Amy Comey Barrett to the Supreme Court only about 3 weeks after her nomination. This contrasts with McConnell's actions in in causing the Senate to (1) ignore Obama's nomination of Garland to the Supreme Court for 9-10 months, (2) ignore about 100 of Obama's nominations for district judge for close to two years and (3) ignore altogether about 400 bills passed by the House of Representatives over the past 12-18 months.

McConnell's past heavy-handed actions prove he has the power to cause the Senate to act just as fast as McConnell wants the Senate to act.

Overly optimistic? That was overly optimistic? But seriously, it was a rant. So of course it's self centered. All rants are. I don't need for the way I view the world to be correct.

Take healthcare for example. While I generally support some kind of MFA program to ensure all Americans have healthcare covered, if there were to be a group of Congress people who proposed a hybrid system of traditional for profit insurance mixed with MFA-lite, or a proposal to move everything to a HSA/market based system with subsidization for poor people/disablsed, etc. AND THEY COULD SHOW THE RESEARCH/SUPPORT FOR SUCH PLANS BEING EFFECTIVE....I would review and consider it with serious disregard for my own view of what I think is right. It's why i referenced problem solvers in my earlier post.

I mostly agree with your take on my post. Like anyone else, I would like more people to view the world as I do. But I'm not going to be offended if they don't. I only get offended when they insist on being intellectually dishonest or turn to mocking the "other side" in an attempt to score cheap political points. I do wish we could all soften our ideological rigidity a bit and focus on trying to look at our problems from another's point of view. We may find their view is bat shit insane and reject it is as such. But, we may find their view is based on a very valid and well experienced set of circumstances we ourselves have little understanding of.

The Dems haven't helped the cause by keeping the same person as their leader in the House for 20 fkn years. A totally absurd situation.
Maybe. But would a different House leader really be different than Pelosi. I'm not so sure. And, to be fair, she is a highly effective caucus organizer and has outlasted many a Republican counterpart.

Friendly warning. Just don’t use the word pragmatism. You will be pilloried, ostracized, and purgatoraided.

Well, at least for the House, the Constitution (I beleive Article 1 Sect. 2) only directs that the House may choose its leader. If, in fact, there were more than two major parties there would still be an election for Speaker and that person may not come from a party holding majority but rather a simple plurality (or the two smaller factions could join to agree on a Leader to usurp the larger faction). I think the same is true for the Senate based on my reading of Article 1 Sect 3. Agree mostly on the presidency b/c of the nuclear option of having the president chosen by the House but, if there were to be several parties, the congress would revert to looking at LOT like a parliamentary system even if not named as such.
