channels, what are the movies that you are compelled to stop on and watch no matter how many times you've seen it, or what you're doing? I don't know why some of mine are on the list, certainly not the greatest movies I've seen, but there's something about Mary... I mean, them!

Mine: Hoosiers, Shawshank Redemption, Tommy Boy, Iron Man, Vacation, Caddyshack, Animal House.... and?

True Grit (the new one),

Outlaw Josey Whales comes to mind. I really enjoy this film. There are so many lines and characters that are great. This is a great scene.

Godfather 1 & 2, Goodfellas, Saving Private Ryan, Blues Brothers, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly for me. Gran Torino is working it's way into the rotation.

So many that I stop and watch.

Any Eastwood (other than Bridges), National Lampoon, John Wayne, or Scorsese movie. Hoosiers, Rudy, Brian's Song, Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, Glory Road, the Natural, Breaking Away, Money Ball, Major League and Tin Cup for sports related movies. Tora Tora Tora, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Bridge over the River Kwai, Patton, Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day (double dipping on John Wayne), Great Escape, Zero Dark Thirty, and Full Metal Jacket in the war movie category.

I'm sure there are others that I'll stop and watch this weekend that I can't think of right now.

A lot of them but two for sure are Platoon and Tombstone...

Kelly's Heroes, Battle of Britain, Mississipi Burning, Shawshank, Finding Forrester, Any Given Sunday, The Blind Side, Magnificent Seven (both), Zero Dark Thirty, Lawrence of Arabia, The Untouchables, Italian Job (original)

One would think that if you regard a movie as your favorite that you'd know how to spell it...

Maybe he was referring to a porn version?

Lawrence
Kwai
Where Eagles Dare
Pulp Fiction
The Natural
Field of Dreams
Hoosiers
Contact
The Martian

and...

Jurassic Park
Braveheart

I know those last two are just objectively terrible movies, but I love watching them.

I couldn't stand watching more than 15mins of braveheart. I must have tried 2-3 times now. Mel's Scottish accent was just too painful and distracting.

Everything about that movie is painful. I think my old friend who is now a respected film critic and curator put it best when he called it "Two hours of Mel Gibson masturbating on camera." But for some reason, I just find it enjoyable. I think it's the battle scenes. I'm a sucker for a good battle scene fueled by fabricated emotion.

I even enjoyed the battle scenes from The Patriot, and that film is 1000x worse than Braveheart.

Food for thought.;)

My fight porn is John Wick.

Godfather 1&2
Goodfellas
The Deer Hunter
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Few Good Men
Major League
Fletch
Caddyshack
Hangover
The 3 original spaghetti westerns.
Tombstone
The Usual Suspects

All of the above and a few maybe not so popular.

Waterworld: It's all about the boat.
Serenity: Zombies, space ships, shoot outs, what's not to like?
Kung Fu Hustle: Tarantino and Loony Toons meet the Drunken Buddha

And on a hot summer day, Jeremiah Johnson. " skin him pilgrim"

Interesting you included Stephan Chow's Kung Fu Hustle. If you are into the Hong Kong movies, try Wong Kar-Wai's movies. Beautifully shot, somewhat europeanish with a small plot line but deeper character development. My fav was Days of being wild.
Or more epic is China's Zhang Yimou, Chinese's David Lean but if you understand the context of when each film was made, there are a lot of underlying political statements, metaphors in his movies.
