National pundits have noticed and commented positively on the job Wilson has been doing in Bloomington. Fans and local media from other schools have commented the same. It seems to me the majority of posters on this site agree the program is improved, and in better shape overall, compared to when CKW took over. There is reason for optimism for the future and talent returning next year. The players have bought in, compete with the best in the Big Ten and have never given up on their coaches. It feels like Indiana has football momentum and will continue to improve in the win column moving forward.
If...rather, WHEN, IU wins on Saturday and is the subject of extended media attention for making a bowl and turning the program around, does CKW become a legitimate target for another program to pursue? Does another AD see and commit to what Indiana does not or will not? Does another AD take advantage of the 5 learning years CKW has had as a head coach and recruit him away just as he's hitting his stride at Indiana?
Does IU find themselves waiting too long to extend his contract and lose CKW to a program willing and able to offer not only a higher salary, but the type of commitment, support and resources that Indiana is perhaps not willing to provide?
Illinois?
Missouri?
Maryland?
UCF?
Syracuse?
There are 11 Div 1 jobs open at the moment and it's very likely that as of next Monday, 5-10 additional jobs will open up. It seems to me that CKW would be a legitimate target for an AD to consider in their interview process. And, if I'm CKW working without an extension, I'd likely listen.
Just saying to the minority of posters here, be careful or you may get what you're asking for.
If IU win's Saturday, EXTEND COACH WILSON. And if the process is delayed, don't be shocked if he's gone before our AD has the opportunity to lock him up and keep this momentum moving forward.
And increase the budget for asst coaches as well.
