Spending the day in Brownsburg at the IBCA Top 100. I spent the morning watching five-star Flory Bidunga, it's the first time I was able to see him play in person. His team scrimmaged four times today and lost all four games they played. But it had nothing to do with his performances. Below is a breakdown of the way Bidunga played in all four of his team's scrimmages. College coaches from Kanas (Bill Self), Michigan (Phil Martelli), Auburn (Bruce Pearl and Steven Pearl) and Indiana (MIke Woodson and Brian Walsh) followed him to every game. Duke assistant coach Chris Carrawell watched him in at least two of his scrimmages. Michigan State assistant Mark Montgomery watched his last game, but the Spartans haven't been able to get any serious traction for Bidguna -- at least to this point in his recruitment.
Game 1:
Game 1:
- He converted on back-to-back possessions with the left hand in the paint in the first half. I thought his touch at the rim could use some more consistency, but he's the most comfortable playing offense in the paint.
- I thought his best play of the first game was a pass on the fastbreak to a teammate. Bidunga took the ball length of the court before feeding a teammate a bounce pass for an open layup. It's an area of his game that seems to have progressed here of late from what I've observed in watching and reading.
- Bidguna came off of the bench in this game, but after coming in and missing a bunny on his first possession, he got his own rebound and went back up for a violent slam dunk.
- On the second possession he had the ball swatted out of his hands on the block, but his team retained possession. After the baseline out of bounds, Bidguna slammed home a violent two handed alley-oop. It looked like he may have broken the rim -- or maybe messed it up a little bit -- when the officially had him jump up and look to straighten it out a couple of times. I thought that was kind of funny. After helping the official, he jokingly asked the referee if his team would get points for helping out, which is a good representation of his personality.
- In the second half he had another nice pass to a cutter for a layup before taking a fastbreak coast-to-coast for a layup on the left side of the rim.
- The third game was the best game that Bidugna played.
- On the first possession, he had a nice feed for a layup to a teammate.
- I thought his best play of the day came when he took one dribble around the 3-point line before getting to the elbow where he spun towards the rim and elevated for a massive, loud dunk with his left hand.
- He recorded another dunk shortly after, which led to a Big Ten assistant coach I was chatting with say, "Great dunker," which is a pretty obvious evaluation.
- I thought he looked to get a little bit tired at this point in the scrimmages, but Bidugna still made some good plays.
- He showed some good effort on the glass and made a nice pass to an open 3-point shooter at the top of the key. But the shooter missed the look.
- In the second half he attacked the rim going to his left with intensity and got an easy lefty layup while elevating over the defender.
- He blocked a 3-pointer in the second half with his left hand, not giving the shooter much of an opportunity to get a clean look because of his length.
