I was lambasted for asking if we make 3-pointers in practice........

I think it's still a legitimate question.
There are 351 D-1 NCAA mens basketball teams.
We are number 350 in 3-point attempts (thank you Mississippi Valley)
and 333rd in percentage made at 27.4%.
This is going to be one hell of a long season as there is no reason to guard us anywhere but down low.

Mack has to start hitting at volume. I say shoot 10 a game, he will hit 33% + in 2024.

There's 362 D1 teams .. you need to research better.

For me what sucks is that the coaching staff has three historically great shooters (Hulls, Cheaney, Woodson). Why can't this team shoot FT or 3's. Although with FT, I always look at player by player. Neither Galloway (52%) nor Reneau (64%) make me feel good when they get to the line.

Agreed. Isn't the whole legend of the state on IN that every single kid can hit jumpers 'til the cows come home and we have none of them..................

A friend of my son's who was a basketball player used to shoot 100 free-throws a day in his driveway. Every day, rain or shine, heat or snow. That was in addition to anything done in organized practices. IDK how many kids do that anymore.

A very legitimate concern. And it tends to get worse in the conference with the familiarity of coaches and teams.

Leal needs to step up. Certainly not just one player, but holy heck this kid is a senior and former Mr. Basketball, and IU only has 3 guards right now.

Also, it's being shown that a burly 6'8" is all you need to contain Ware. Double Reneau and he turns it over. Mgbako can shoot but stands around. Put a 6'4" guard on him no problem. I hope everyone is buckled in for this conference season.

Leal never plays. Why does it matter what his 3-pt percentage is?

Cupps needs to shoot more. He was open several times vs. Morehead and it looked like he he knew it but he passed the ball off instead of taking the shot.

I never see kids playing basketball anymore in my neighborhood,
a lot of basketball goals but nobody is playing. Must all be
doing TikTok.

Leal is your answer? lol

I agree. I was modestly hoping he would get 6-8 a game. I’d be thrilled if he took 10 a game. I wish there was some screens to help him get open looks.

Easier yet, if Malik and Kel finally spot him and pass him the ball on aggressive doubles, he's been open a lot.

Kick it out ... make the defense move, ... simple basketball.

On that note, IU didn't run as many low block post ups for Kel (or Malik) tonight. Yay!. Trey and Ware seem to be building chemistry on the rolling lob, it's much better than early in the season.

Nah. Gunn is a finished product.
Kinda agree. Gunn reminds me of a squirrel with a nut that runs around the yard with only one purpose which is to bury said nut. Gunn is oblivious to what's happening around him and simply intends to shoot the ball as soon as he gets his hands on it. Wait, I love squirrels and that's sort of an insult to squirrels.

only way to really find that out would be to survey every kid in the world. and hope they were truthful about their free throw shooting habits. my guess is it would be a very small percentage.

I am sure gunn shoots 80% in practice then goes into the games and shoots 20%

The Todd Lindeman syndrome. Those bright lights of games bring it on.
Yep. I was watching the 2nd half last night and every single jump shot I saw gunn take was a brick. They were not even close. It is amaing that his whole MO was he was supposed to be a shooter.

I never thought Gunn was in the category of "pure shooter" coming out of high school. I thought of him as a "scorer" who could hit a reasonably good % of 3 point shots along with a versatile game driving to the rim. He clearly looks capable of the latter and playing good defense. But has not demonstrated patience and good decision making on offense.
(I'm a bit paranoid he is rushing to create some positive video to strengthen his transfer options)

You need to repost this before every remaining game. We just had the most 3 point attempts and makes since the Crean era.

That’s definitely not true 😂. We’ve had plenty of games over the last few years where we’ve had 24+ attempts. But we’ve also had very few games where we made 10+. I’d like to see us take a higher volume per game as well though, they are capable.
