Effing ghouls.

So, I don't want to ever hear the following arguments ever again out of the GOP:

1. Only good guys w guns stop bad guys w guns - bullshit. Big tough Texas cops let that kid hang out in that school for 40 minutes.

2. Mental health - bullshit. A kid crashed his car, donned all in black carrying a rifle after shooting his grandma and still found time to make his way into a school, passed security somehow. Nobody thought the kid a bit odd in those few moments?

3. 18 year olds should be able to buy ARs but not rent cars - give me a break, dudes.

How the party of God has draped itself in this 2nd Amendment gobblygook is beyond me.

That NRA convention should be cancelled and I'd bet my retirement and house that God and Jesus agree with me.

You’re blaming the wrong people. It’s like blaming drug dealers instead of the people taking the drugs. How about blaming the people who actually make policy & legislation? Of course, no personal accountability is the calling card of today’s Democratic Party…

I think it's a secret service rule - Trump is speaking and as a former president, I'm sure that's a big no-no as far as they're concerned.

Still, it's going to be pretty wild when they're giving their 'rah-rah, we're fighting to keep it legal to take your guns everywhere' speech, but have to add on, 'but not here - some of your MF'ers are crazy and might shoot us!"

Of good grief. The Republican Party is in the pocket of the NRA. Blaming the NRA, along with Republicans, is 100% spot-on. As OG said, if the NRA did not exist our gun laws would be very different.

Humbly, the way to stop gun violence is not by hoping for other forms of violence against people you disagree with politically.

Yes, that is over the top. I wonder why the West Wing method has never been tried, someone suggested people supporting gun control should join the NRA en masse and vote to change their lobbying.

Exactly. Look at Australia, New Zealand, when they had mass shootings the country came together and got rid of assault weapons and enacted very tough gun laws. Suffice it to say, it took care of the problem. They don’t have an NRA equivalent to buy off politicians.

Like it or not, the NRA over the years has been an effective lobbyist.

We often talk about the NRA in connection with the 2nd Amendment. What we overlook is the NRA as a lobbyists is protected by the First Amendment with a right “to petition the government.”

On top of that there is the Citizens United court ruling in 2010 which allowed for the creation of independent political organizations (now called “super PACs”). Super PACs are allowed to raise unlimited amounts of money to promote a candidate, as long as they don’t coordinate with the candidate’s official campaign.

So here we are in the wake of another mass shooting. We are upset now, but will forget about the shooting in a couple of days. Lobbyists such as the NRA along with gun manufacturer's super PACs will continue to work diligently each and every day to protect their interests.

Bottom line, nothing will change.

Obviously, don't think he actually meant it, but the anger and over-the-top rhetoric is not helpful. It's the kind of angry screeds I see all the time about Biden or Hillary or Obama or AOC from the right and Trump and Mitch and Ted Cruz and MTG from the left. Very little is accomplished with it and, more often than not, it's counter productive.

No, I think we can stop at the NRA. I remember reading that they were in danger of going bankrupt awhile back. Hopefully that happens and we can see what happens to gun laws without the chucklef**ks at the NRA mucking things up.

Old Testament God probably is. Seems like he'd be up for a good old fashioned smite session for a group whose sole purpose is to make it easier for people to own tools to injure and kill people.

I'm not sure anyone who is pro-gun can lay claim to God's good graces.

If Joe Biden has mental capacity left to remember how he loves wars, I'm sure he can't wait to get get the black market on guns ramped up to spend countless amounts of money on another war. The ATF killed plenty in Waco 30 so years so they likely can't wait get back at it. To bad someone didn't put Bedo or whatever that clowns name is 6 feet under. IMO, Americans are already at war with the Democratic party that needs removed from society. They only care about themselves and power and who they can blame next for something that goes wrong. Kerr alluded to it and Elon musk also alludes to it. Bedo couldn't wait to get film for a TV political commercial in the upcoming election.

Bomb-making is already illegal. Bombs are one of the types of arms excluded from 2nd amendment protection, as are nukes, cannons, missiles, hand grenades, land mines, etc. So it seems that assault weapons could be another excluded category. Yes, it would require soeme work to define exactly what is an assault weapon, but with lots of help from gun experts who agree that kids getting mowed down all the time is bad, I think it can be accomplished. It was accomplished in Australia, New Zealand, and pretty much everywhere else in the developed world.

We live in a GOP STATE lets open the doors on June 1st and give everybody a dam gun w/o a permit. YOU speak of legislative accountability giving every MF a dam gun The GOP is plain stupid.

I don't own a gun, but the ones who do own them tell me it is all about protection. As I have read the rhetoric on this thread has anyone thought of this? It is not about shooting people like they are blood thirsty. It is about defending oneself from those who would cause harm. This tragic shooting in Texas was stopped by a man with a gun. So you have two men who have guns. One kills a bunch of kids and two teachers. He shot his own grandmother who was raising him. The second man went in alone and took him out. Who knows if he had not continued to kill other children?

Using the words of many on the right when someone of color is killed, they should have complied with the law officers.

After the initial raid the Branch Davidians had weeks to surrender. Instead their actions led to the unfortunate death of 20 kids. Too bad the adults were so hell bent on playing stupid games. They sure won a hell of a prize.

I thought you guys were the party of law and order? Or do religious nuts get a pass?

Look Van - I’ve been pretty clear on how I feel on this. I think the idea that someone needs a gun for a gun is rooted in fear and paranoia.

What does Jesus say about fear? Where in the Bible does it make an exception to kill someone because you were scared?

Bad things do and will happen. But this idea that people need guns for protection is bullshit.

This isn’t complicated. No amount of rationalization can reconcile Jesus’ teachings with reserving the right to kill someone with a gun.

Having a gun for protection is not about fear. It is about doing your part in protecting yourself, others, and property. Jesus did not speak about guns but he did say in Luke 22:35 And he said to them, i“When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.
If you say that people don't need guns for protection then why do the police carry guns? The truth is this is a dangerous world. And it doesn't mean people are irrationally afraid. They just see how the world really is. There are evil and dangerous people out there and you want to protect yourself until the police arrive. That's about it. Again, it isn't about killing people because one is blood thirsty. It is about protection.
