I've complained to ESPN about this many times. You can see how far that got. She should be doing women's sports only. Or at least smaller conference games that nobody cares about.

She's just a mediocre announcer. I don't think gender has anything to do with whether someone can be good at PBP or color commentary.

I've really enjoyed hearing Jessica Mendoza on some of ESPN's MLB games and think she's a fantastic color commentator.

women play by play announcers on mens games...

I hear you. Chris Fowler should be banned from doing women's tennis also.

With luck, any female you care about will never become a play by play announcer on ESPN (the horror) and will become an internet bra model like the one in the picture you have posted.

The fact that you have actually formally complained to ESPN, if true (which seems questionable), is one of the truly saddest things I have ever heard.

As part of an honest and informal sociological inquiry, why do you care if it is a woman, as opposed to a man, telling you Devine Redding got a first down?

Well, you know, it just does. Political correctness only goes so far. Once trained as a social anthropologist, I can give you the short answer...its the purview of men, a world of testosterone, men's men playing what for nearly a century has been VIRTUALLY all male. In our modern immaculating society where androgeny rules, FB offered a male haven for feeling like a man.

Once the women enter, there it goes. It's now something else. Maybe better, but as a social participator myself, I don't have to like it...not one bit. It's women's mystic its hurting...just bugs me.

Where to even start with this sexist BS....

Maybe she played rugby, in which case she probably took some pretty hard hits without padding. I played rugby back in the day. You wouldn't want me to tackle you even now. Trust me. Buncha pussies playing with pads. Y'all probably have to take midol too.

I've played rugby with men too and refereed men's rugby games. I restarted the IU Women's Rugby team in the mid-nineties when I was a graduate student and felt I needed to prove myself to the guys since I wouldn't be able to get the team off the ground without their support. The women's team is still going strong after 20 years so I guess I did my job correctly.

PS - thanks to all you guys that are fighting the good fight on this thread ;) 'preciate ya!

PPS - also would like to add - if you don't like a female announcer for a male sport, you certainly have a right to your opinion but some of you need to be a little more thoughtful about your excuses why you don't. I don't think men should coach women's sports, but there seems to be no shortage of that happening and no shortage of men without coaching experience getting hired to coach women's teams over women with coaching experience. Sexism is alive and well in the 21 century and some of the comments on this thread help perpetuate that sexism. It's kinda like racism and homophobia. We all like to argue that "Me?!? I'm not racist/sexist/homophobic!! Why I've got gay/black/female friends that laugh at my dumb jokes at their expense all the time!" Well, to that I say...they aren't laughing with you... ;)

PPPS - my dick is bigger than yours.

Agree - you should stick to just guys since it sounds like that is your preference. More women for me to convert!!!

Wow

...lol...that was childish. Never once said me until end where my preference lies. Can't read huh? Chronic problem here. My wife was first to say the announcer sounded silly. Out of place...society is what it is. Women FB fans are everywhere... No problem at all..love it. But announcers no....not sexist but ridiculous. Political correctness out of control. The fact your caught up in it asks more questions about your gender preference than mine. But who cares? Like what you want...I'll do the same.

Interesting.

You call those who did not like the woman announcer "sexist" but yet you state " I don't think men should coach women's sports,", is that not just as sexist?

Why is it that the seemingly oppressed can say or believe anything without a derogatory label being attach but LOOK OUT if the comments come from the other side?

Interesting indeed.

PS, Nice way you brought racism and homophobia into the conversation to bolster your position. Two hot button issues of the day that have NOTHING to do with women announcers or sexism. The age old ploy of people with weak positions.

That's a very sexist comment. If they are knowledgeable, then I don't see a problem with it. Does that mean, you don't talk to anyone about women problems?? I'll bet you do, or try too anyway. So give them a break and let them do their job. I'll bet she's tons better than you at announcing games!

"Immasculating"?

We say everyone has the right to their own opinion until someone has an opinion that differs from ours? The country is full of hypocrites. I get it, I think it's an incredibly sexist statement and think it's a mild form of insanity but who am I to tell someone to shut up when they're merely giving their own opinion? The same can be said about same sex marriages. To me, hate breeds hate but I think it's bred upon THAT person whom is spewing the hate so if they want to hate and force others to segregate themselves from the majority of society than let them have at it. We have to stop fighting fire with fire and allow natural selection to work its course.

Of course, everyone has a right to an opinion but blasting your opinion out on the internet opens you up to public criticism. If your feelings are hurt that easily, give your opinion to your dog instead of the entire world.

At first women were not allowed to play basketball but now they have a professional league so everything changes through your lifetime so maybe you should get use to it.

Not sure what the terms "immaculating" or "women's mystic" mean.

That said, I usually see a whole bunch of females at every IU football game I go to. Also, I would rather go to an IU football game with my wife and two daughters than three guys any day.

It's cool if you like guys though...

No I agree with the criticism just saying people shouldn't be telling him he shouldn't give his ridiculous opinion because of how they seem to be offended. It's the ones telling him to shut up that have the soft skin.

And again, I agree that he is insane. Just think insane people have the right to verbalize their craziness. It gives us a forewarning of who we're dealing with. I'd rather have that warning instead of turning the crazies silent until its too late. ha

This is pure nonsense. What year is this?

No, see, you can't just spew ridiculous nonsense and hide behind "political correctness." You can have that (outdated) opinion, but people are allowed to disagree. Suggesting that women shouldn't do something simply because they are women is sexist. That is the definition of sexism.

People have the freedom of speech but it does not keep you away from being ridiculed for that freedom

A better way to say that is that EVERYONE has freedom to express an opinion and that means your are free to tell someone else that he's wrong.

Everyone else's opinions are that he should keep his misogyny to himself. If he can say what he wants, so can everyone else.

This thread couldn't be any funnier! Lots of very confused uneducated people that hit what they can't understand. Please keep going...its already a comic strip.

I think Beth Mowins is much better than Pam Ward. Remember her? ESPN must have also thought so, since I don't see Pam Ward doing anything these last few years.

Wait - someone made a second post about this? Good lord.

Please delete this thread. It's an embarrassment.
