Last night TC pulled Hartman just after he scored 8 quick points. Later in the game he pulled Williams just after he scored and got fouled. Over the last four years I have seen this a lot. If things are going good why make a change. You can check all the games for the last four years and you will find at the four or five minute mark he will start subbing regardless of what is going on. Why does he do this? WU shot 31 freebies IU 11. Thet scored 28 points from the line. Don't get me wrong I think the best team won. Many times one of our kids went to the bucket and no foul was called. This same thing happened when the Pukes went there last month. The way that BO bullies the refs. it make is so difficult to win. Being a fan for fifty years I just want a coach the can recruit Indiana kids and teach defense. Love IU BB. It is really hard seeing them get toasted.

Hartman has medical limitations to his allowed time on the knee....

He has to come out per Doctor's orders.

DD should get the facts before he bloviates.

Yep, and he said TW was really unhappy at the time

Of everything that happens, this is my smallest beef on CTC. If he won more it would be a moot issue. The other commentator asked Dakich what the reason was. Dakich said he had no idea why he did it.

Dakich is just a hater

You are right. When Purdue went up there, they outshot us 31-7 from the line. It's pretty ridiculous. As far as rotation is concerned, I think this is a big reason why Purdue is playing better lately. Painter has shortened our bench. We now have guys playing 30-35 minutes per game. These guys are in college. They can handle it. It also seems that there are so many lulls in the game now (timeouts, reviews, more fouls, etc.) that playing more shouldn't be any issue. That's just this "PUkes" 2 cents.

Re: Kinda solidifies that notion that IU's Coach

Maybe if he would sit some and watch he could manage his players time more.

I would like to think that CTC knows his players and when they need to come out. I know what you are saying, but I have seen players give the bench the tug on the jersey meaning they are ready to come out. When I watch the game that I had just been to, it seems more scripted on TV.

I have more issues with the number of subs in at one time than when he subs. Having Zeisloft, Hoetzel, and a third sub in together kills the momentum. When I coached, I followed these rules:

1. Sub one player at a time unless there is an injury or foul trouble. Less disruptive to the game.
2. Always have 3 starters in the game unless injury or foul trouble.
3. Look at the team on the floor and make sure your two weakest defenders in your rotation aren't on the floor together.
4. Know bench players strengths and play them when the situation matches their strengths.
5. You have to have people that cans score on the court. Have 2 of your 3 best scorers on the court together at all times.

Crean and our staff doesn't spend as much time with the refs as other coaches. Matta spends half of a time out talking and yelling at refs. I don't think he does as good of a job standing up for his team as others.

Totally agree about not getting on the refs enough. A lot of big

Ten coaches spend most of the game trying to get calls for their team. I don't see Crean doing that ever.

I thought CTC pulled Hartman for what he did on defense

CTC did some lecturing to Hartman. At least I think that was what it was about.

It seemed to me that lately CTC reduced the amount of willy nilly substitutions. Those two incidents were definitely head scratchers at first; but, it sure seemed that he may have had valid reasons in these instances. Heck, he is the HC.

What bothers me more is certain lineups, apparent lack of either coaching or execution on defense, and lack of energy at times.

I don't buy into the offense cures all school. Maybe CTC should recruit some defensive specialists..heheh.

Nope...he actually forced a turnover (pass out of bounds)

before he was taken out at that point in the game.

It was after Hartman sat for 5 mins or so and came back in he wasn't nearly as effective.

What are those orders?

he played 33 minutes. so he needs to rest for 7 minutes you don't pick the few minutes that he's on fire.

if he has medical limitations you pull him at the end of a hopeless game instead of leaving him in for the "comeback"

quit making stuff up.

Fine, but it's not an isolated incident. Just like Doug Gotlieb said...

"Crean subs his teams out of games"

Doctor's orders

It was said early in the year that Hartman would have limited minutes this season. Those minutes were based on the team doctor's evals.

I don't like Crean's substitution patterns but this is not made up stuff.

It was an answer CTC did back in pre-conference when asked about Hartman's playing time.

Well, it would have made more sense back then.

I suppose it's still been less than a year since he's injury, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. But since HMP's injury, he's been averaging 28 mpg, and cracked 30 twice. That doesn't sound like a guy who's minutes are still being limited, or at the very least, the limitation is now so slight as to not be justification for why he's pulled to sit when he is.

EDIT: By the way, that rate would put him 3rd on the team behind only Yogi and JBJ.
