Saying that you can play with anybody in the country was just plain crazy. Shushing the Penn State crowd was just plain stupid. He just didn't show good judgement - anywhere.

Diamont reminds me of Kapernick, he can make a few great plays but overall a very mediocre player.

Cameron's more like Sudfeld in style of quarterback, his arm is much stronger than Diamont's, and his judgement has been much better than Diamont's. I have no idea whether he can run the read option . . . but I agree I lack confidence in Diamont.
Game might have been closer but I'm not sure we win even if Sudfeld was in there. O line having trouble with the PSU D. Sudfeld less mobile and I think there would have been more sacks. Really stout against the run as well. Hopefully we are at full strength next week and beyond.
O line was pushed around again today. Lots of hype but they haven't backed it up against quality opponents.
Penn State would face an entirely different offense if Sudfield and Howard were playing together today. Howard takes away Sudfield's slow speed (mobility) in the backfield so Sudfield looks good handing him the ball for the diverse ground game. Diamont didn't have that powerful backfield that Howard brings. Coach didn't trust the ground game that is why he had Diamont flinging from the getgo. Sudfield passes the ball better than the Penn State quarterback. We would have spread the offense more with Howard and Sudfield. I would like to see Howard and Diamont play together for a while just to see what our ground game would be like. I think we will be at full strength next week.
PSU's defense adjusted to Diamont's style after his TD, but he was beginning to settle in, becoming more comfortable against the pressure on the second possession in the second half. Down 19-7 he completed 2 straight passes to Jones, had a nice run to midfield, then Wilson's penalty put him in 2d and 20+. He hit another intermediate pass to Jones, then went down trying to convert 3d and long. Not saying IU would have won, but that penalty was a backbreaker in more ways than one.
This is what I ma very worried about because the offense we saw today probably will be what it looks like next year. We lose Sudfeld and I would say it is a pretty good bet that Howard will probably turn pro so our offense next year could be very mediocre.
I know we will have King, Diamont, Ramsey, and Cameron (unless there's a transfer) but you'd have to think they'll try to talk to a good juco QB who can play, if the coaches are not totally comfortable with the current Game 1 options next season. Let 'em handle it.
P.S. You'd have to think we'll need to keep upgrading everywhere. QB isn't the only spot with open competition.

Hate to break it to people but we aren't a great offense when entirely healthy. We saw the breakdowns in the first 4 games. We saw Sudfeld move the team in red zone opportunities only to come away with zero. We needed defensive heroics in 2 of our games. We didn't score much against Wake.
This offense with Nate and Howard isn't very strong.
Wow...I guess being #1, #2, or #3 in virtually all B10 offensive stats means nothing at all. Yup, that's one bad O with NS & JH. Both national leaders in top 5 in their categories was just smoke. Man, you gotta lighten up before you really say something even more ridiculous. It's just a game man. Go get drunk or something.
Gotta do it against the big boys though. I'm not sold on this offense.

We'll see....but if this outfit today starts against Rutgers, you can count that as a big, fat loss. Hell, I'm not sure if our main guys are back that we keep even with Rutgers. The reality is setting in.
I don't think we would have won if both Howard and Sudfeld had played. PSU has a very good D, close to tOSU's D. Look how ineffective Howard was against tOSU before he injured his ankle. ZD started 0-6 but wound up 9-17. So once he settled down and the score was 7-7, he went 9-11. That's pretty good, and we still got down 2 TDs before he left. With Sudfeld MAYBE it would have been a TD closer, but still a loss. Everybody seems to be ignoring the fact that the D played pretty badly, too.
They didn't almost land him. He visited but they weren't a serious contender for him, in large part because he didn't see a clear path to starting. Even if he did, I don't know if he comes to IU but he wasn't going anywhere to sit.
All week long I kept warning how good PSU's D was...everyone, in particular PSU fans, kepts disagreeing. Well, guess what? They were better than OSUs DD, just like the experts said. We probably would not have won this game even at full strength, but would have kept it closer. As IU fans we have to keep grounded with our expectations. It was kinda silly thinking we were going in to a place we've never won and think we were going to dominate. Even under scholarship sanctions PSU has tons more talent on roster than IU. So will MSU. Not even close. But the rest of the games we should be able to compete. Let's wait for harakiri until we lose to someone we can beat. We haven't yet this year so that's what I'll hold on too. Lots of FB left. We've got a winnable game sandwiched between sure loses. Then a good run to finish out. Let's get behind our team and help them grab the bowl game still sitting there and the season will look very different in hind sight imo.

I was impressed by Danny Cameron. I honestly think that if his name was Danny Jones instead of Danny Caneron we'd be pretty pleased with how he played. He looked poised, the moment didn't look to big for him, and he looks very accurate. He can drive the ball a bit as well and he's a little bigger than I thought. For a debut performance I thought he did a nice job and I think his upside is actually pretty high.
Ah, the backup QB...always most popular man on the team. Next season is a long way off. I expect Nat to take snaps from here out.
I didn't suggest he supplant Nate. I wrote that he played pretty well and showed some promise. Nice straw man.

The defenses are cheating up against Diamont because he can't throw down the field. That is stopping our run game period. Cameron can throw down the field at least. Sudfield in the game opens the run game because the safeties have to respect his arm and deep ball. CKW said as much. No explosive plays in the last two games.
