How important is knowing up from down?

CoH said Trump used it as "aspirational." Not only is that much too big of a word for Trump to even know the definition of, but I'd say that Trump used it for the same reasons he referred to "Mexicans" and promoted the Birther Conspiracy. Just because none of our cooler conservatives are racist doesn't change the fact that Trump has always appealed to a certain element that is...

Does anybody really think it's a coincidence that Trump spoke of making America "great again" on the heels of the first Black POTUS? And somehow all the racist elements suddenly became emboldened to speak openly, and to even hold a rally to protest the removal of the statues of "Southern heroes"?

From the start, Charlottesville was a gathering of openly racist Vanguard and KKK members. The permit, planning, and general organization were all done under Richard Spencer and his disciple that lived in Charlottesville (Kessler).

For some unfathomable reason, a lot of self-described "non-racist" Conservatives seemed to think it was somehow a good idea to join with racists in a "Unite the Right" rally, seemingly forgetting the adage of "lying down with dogs". A girl was murdered and Trump tried to parse the conservatives there into racists and non-racists because they both liked him.

Presumably, when he spoke of there being "good people on both sides" he meant the "non-racist" portion of the right-wingers there. Yet they were still attending a rally held by racists. Do good people do that?

I don't think History will be kind to MAGA or Trump. He's like an obese, illiterate version of Huey Long...
No doubt Trump appealed to racists.
No doubt Sanders and Warren appealed to socialists and they had influence on the current administration’s policy initiatives.
No doubt people voted for Trump for reasons other than racism.
No doubt people voted for Biden for reasons other than socialism.

Trump would never have been President if I cast the deciding vote, but “make America Great again” wasn’t a Trump invention. It’s a fairly common political phrase. Used by Democrats and Republicans. That was my point.

Hilarious that you and the other haters care who coined the term and spend so much time and so many words on it.

Trump said it in a speech, it got a great response, and he ran with it. Maybe he heard Clinton use the same phrase, maybe he didn't. Who cares?

MAGA!

The reason MAGA was a great slogan - besides the fact that it's catchy and easy to remember - is that it's a Rorshach test. It could mean manufacturing jobs. It could mean increased coal production. It could mean fewer Mexican people. It means whatever the listener wants it to mean.
Yeah, sure. It was a stupid phrase on here, widely trashed - until Aloha showed that Clinton used it.

Agree With this. Trump seems like a dufus to many, mostly elites. But his communication ability, especially his ability to put concepts into images, is very effective.

He’s no Reagan.

I’ll give him the ability to be relatable to what we used to call the lower middle class/working folk. Bubba used to love him some Dimocrat, but now loves him some Trump.

But his divisiveness in a divisive time was a bad choice and overall a loss-loss. He thought being blunt and even rude was necessary to build the coalition and get through a 100-candidate primary - so be it. It’s also part of his nature - new money New York real estate prick. I get it. But he’s looking like an Obama so far - no policies make it past the following Congress and no real lasting legislative impact. Coulda been different.

We need a national healer and instead we have AOC, The Squad, Maxine, Pelosi and Frat Guy.

I want a Haley-Condi ticket. Starting now. Every time they are criticized, play the misogynist/racist/homophobe cards. Beat em at thier own game.

I think we're looking at a DeSantis/Haley Republican ticket.

Homophobe? Who is gay?

I'm betting on Condi Rice - she is not "out" and tries to keep her private life private, whch is OK too, but if I had to swear, I'd say I think she is.
I'm not sure. A friend of my wife who was unmarried into her late 50s, met some guy (divorced) and they got married and now they're a happily married couple.

I would have sworn she was gay and even my wife didn't really know. She didn't date and she was really into golf. So, I just assumed she was. But she wasn't.

So, you never know. Condi is buttoned down, but get a few tequila shots in her......

I love your posts, but I hate your proposed ticket. Haley looks like a complete opportunist......I see no sincerity there.....only naked ambition. And I always thought Condi had NO handle on the terrorist threat that existed prior to 911....She was the so-called "National Security Advisor"......she seemed quite clueless. Do you disagree?

All that said, I take your main point---it would be a popular ticket politically. So we could do a "Biden' and hold our nose & vote for it. It certainly would be a major upgrade.

The only thing aspirational about Trump's campaign was that he aspired to be President.

Did he really? I definitely improved his brand but considering the charges coming for the Trump Org and all the headaches of pending and (likely) upcoming litigation, I bet he'd just as soon have never done it. Then again, he's a narcissist so probably not.

To this day I still think he was shocked he won. On election night was the only time I ever saw his face turn white. Didn't happen even when he had COVID.

This thread shows without a shadow of a doubt, trying to discuss race with Dems is a total waste of time. They have all the wokeness down pat.

Now I’ll wait to be called a racist by these folks.
You haven't hit the Big time until they call you a racist And a nazi... 😟 😉 🙃 🍺🇺🇸🍺

CoH, could you offer up an example of Trump effectively putting a concept into an image?

BUSTED!

I must admit - my character is flawed - my desire to shove the Looney Left's hypocrisy back in their faces AND win an election can and does easily and often overpower my thinking about policy!

Domestically, almost any national candidate can handle the budget/tax policy thing. Biggest near-future social decisions? National weed policy? Immigration reform? The fight over socialized medicine will contine too.

Foreign policy is getting more dicey and I'm not yet ready to make a call. But if the Chinese attack our satellites, and power/computer grid, it will become an easier call - "elect a general." And if Putin gets outside his borders - same thing.

I trust no Commies and no socialist pigs either.

Free enterprise and personal liberty and limited/divided national powers! It ain't rocket science!
