How about next year we support our team and fill Memorial Stadium with OUR fans. I know I'll now hear all the whiners saying "it isn't the fans fault", "they don't deserve our support until they win", BULL.
These kids haven't been here over the past 100 years of losing, they aren't responsible, I see a team playing it's guts out and just still missing a few parts resulting in coming up short. Yes, we lost again on Saturday, but to anyone who was there , did you not have fun ? I hate losing, but I love the way our teams battles and never buckles. When we were down 21-9 that game could have gotten away from us, as it used to, but it didn't.
As our beloved Coach Hep used to say, "crowds help win games", truer words have never been spoken. Does anyone think, just maybe, the outcome of that game is different if we have 52,000 Hoosier fans raising hell for 4 quarters ? Or even for just the last drive ? I do. Don't tell me crowds don't affect officials or opposing teams, they do, maybe an awful offensive interference call isn't made, or perhaps UM can't hear and jumps prematurely, happens all the time elsewhere.
I park in the donor lot just west of MS and it is so disgusting seeing opposing throngs of tailgaters in these supposedly IU only lots. And I'm not talking about guests in opponent garb at an IU tailgate visiting with friends or family, I'm talking about cars with out of state plates covered in opponent paraphernalia and opponent only tailgates. Then go into the game to find opposing fans all around you, our team and our fans ,who attend ,deserve better. I would rather eat my tickets and parking than sell to an opponent .
For those of you that just chose not to come last Saturday because you thought you would find something better to do, you missed a great game.At the very least, you missed a beautiful fall weekend in Bloomington, and maybe, just maybe those UM fans sitting in your prime seats helped their team win the game, it was that close. Fire away, you won't change my view , and sadly, I'm sure I won't change yours.
