Hoosier sweep Maryland, winning today 6-2, and outscoring the Terrapins 25-9 over the
weekend series.
There was a seriousness about our play that I'm thinking hasn't been there for awhile.
We've moved Nebraska out of the seventh spot, and looks like we could get a decent
draw in the BIG tournament.
As they say . . . anything can happen in a short series!!!

WAY TO GO HOOSIERS !!!

Who saw this one coming? It's as heartening as the sweep loss at Penn State was disheartening. Got to keep it going now for a couple more weekends.

BRING OUT THE BROOMS!
COLLEGE PARK, Md
. -- Indiana swept its third series of the season, using a 6-2 victory on Sunday at Bob "Turtle" Smith to take its third game in as many tries at No. 20 Maryland, who hadn't suffered a sweep all season.

The Hoosiers retired Maryland in order five times and limited the Terrapins to six total base runners.

Indiana didn't score in the first inning as it had in the series' first two games, but still scored first, posting its second-best inning of the weekend with five runs in the top of the third.

Casey Rodrigue doubled and Nick Ramos singled with one out to place runners on the corners, before Brad Hartong's groundout scored the Hoosiers' first run but left IU with two outs.

UM intentionally walked Scott Donley, but hit Logan Sowers to load the bases for Indiana. Back-to-back walks of Craig Dedelow and Will Nolden gift-wrapped a pair of runs for IU as the Hoosiers opened up a 3-0 lead. Hoosier batters were walked 11 times and hit by pitch three times for a combined 14 total free bases.

Austin Cangelosi nearly cleared the bases with a double to left field but a throw home just beat out Nolden at home. IU, however, scored two runs on the play to lead 5-0.

Maryland scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the same frame on a solo home run.

IU would add a run in the fifth on a RBI single from Nolden for a 6-1 lead the Hoosiers held until the bottom of the eighth, the only other time the home team would threaten.

Isaiah Pasteur's two-out error allowed a UM runner to reach and the ensuing RBI single shrunk IU's lead to 6-2.

Terp View:
Maryland baseball: No 20 Terps can't control Indiana, lose 6-2
By Andrew A Kramer@mercator88 on May 3, 2015, 2:13p

Terrapin pitchers issued 11 walks and hit three batters. Indiana put up a five-run third inning, which was more than enough to prevail today. Kevin Smith crushed a home run and Brandon Lowe had two hits for the Terps.

Today's starting pitchers for the final contest in the three-game series were Indiana's LHP Caleb Baragar (0-4, 3.05 era) vs. Maryland's LHP Jake Drossner (0-1, 3.41 era). The Terps had lost the first two games in the series and were seeking to avoid being swept.

Indiana once again puts the Terps in a huge hole
The Terps had something going in the bottom of the second inning. Anthony Papio drew a one-out walk. After Jamal Wade skied out, Kevin Biondic pulled a single through the left side. Both runners then advanced on a balk. However, Tim Lewis struck out looking to end the Terrapin threat.

Drossner had cruised through the first two innings. He wouldn't make it out of the third frame. With one out, Casey Rodrigue drove a ball to the right-center field wall for a stand-up double. Nik Ramos singled to left field, with Rodrigue holding at third. Brad Hartoung hit a sharp grounder that Jose Cuas dove for and backhanded. From his knees, Cuas threw out Hartoung: Rodrigue scored. Then things went awry quickly. Scott Donley was given an IBB, and Logan Sower was HBP to load the bases. Craig Dedelow drew a four-pitch walk, as did Will Nolden to put the Hoosiers up 3-0. That was all for Drossner, who was relieved by Ryan Selmer. Austin Cangelosi doubled in two runs, with Nolden thrown out at the plate trying to score Indiana's sixth run.

Teams trade a run
In the bottom of the third inning, Pat Hisle pushed a bunt down the first base side for a single. He was picked off first, which was costly as Kevin Smith then drilled a home run.

Alex Robinson was on the mound in the top of the fifth. Hartoung walked and Donley singled to left. After two outs, Nolden singled in a run.

Terrapin bats remain fairly quiet
RHP Scott Effross relieved Baragar in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Lowe singled to center, just the fourth hit for the Terps so far. One out later Cuas ground into a double play.

Jared Price was on the bump in the seventh and pitched a scoreless inning. At the seventh inning stretch the Terrapins trailed 6-1. Maryland pitchers had allowed nine walks and hit three batters. Things didn't look good. When the Terps went down 1-2-3 in their half of the seventh, a sweep loomed large.

Kevin Mooney pitched the eighth for Maryland, and held the Hoosiers scoreless. The first two Terrapins were retired quietly in the bottom of the inning. Then Kevin Smith got aboard when the third baseman couldn't grab his high chopper. Lowe drilled a run-scoring double to make the score 6-2. Kevin Martir grounded out to end the eighth.

Mooney pitched a scoreless ninth, and the Terrapins had one at-bat left to rally. The Hoosiers' closer, RHP Ryan Halstead, came in to pitch. Cuas popped out, Papio flied out to center, and Jamal Wade struck out to finish out the game.

Indiana had swept the Terps at home, outplaying them in all facets of the game.

Jake Drossner took the loss to go to 0-2. With Indiana's sweep, the Terps fell to 32-16 overall, 11-7 in the B1G.
