Get used to it we dont have any shooters for next year either.Had we a couple shooters, Trayce and Race would prosper even more.
We do have several shooters but the offense and Woodson does not create anything for them to get off their shots. Its either feed the post or let X drive and shot that is basically the offense.Had we a couple shooters, Trayce and Race would prosper even more.
The more I read about Woodson's offense he is not going to run sets for them. They are doing exactly what he wants of them to just stand there and wait. I really do not get this NBA offense is college it seems like it might not work without superior talent. Our offense creates very very few good looks for our shooters. Yes, part of this is the fact Kopp and Stewart are slow footed but can't we set some screens or something to get these guys open???
I think we have proof that it definitely does not work without superior talent. The more I read about Woodson's offense he is not going to run sets for them. Gunn is most certainly a shooter.Get used to it we dont have any shooters for next year either.
He'll also be a freshman next year, and experiencing a whole new level of athlete and defenders. Is the college 3 pt line longer too? In short, I'm saying I don't expect him to make much of an impact at all next year.Gunn is most certainly a shooter.
But 1 isn't enough. I think we'll see several guys leave and hopefully Coach Woodson doesn't strikeout in the transfer portal again while trying to find some replacements.
Who knows. But if he does make an impact it will be as a shooter. He'll also be a freshman next year, and experiencing a whole new level of athlete and defenders. Is the college 3 pt line longer too? In short, I'm saying I don't expect him to make much of an impact at all next year.
Next year is looking to be very dismal as of right now and I have not talked to any IU fans who seem super excited about the future right now..Woodson really needed to make a statement this year by getting us in the NCAA and he had enough talent to do it. It would have shown the fans We are on the right track and he could do what Archie could not. Instead any momentum that would have given the program is totally dead. Instead we are right back to where have to sit around three years to see if this is going to work or not. With each new coach people get less and less patient and less and less interested. Not Woodson’s fault but just the reality of 20 years of crap results. But we were sold on getting an IU guy here and he was going to turn it around finally so the pressure is certainly on Woodson to deliver and soon. It's been the same issue for like 5 years. Unfortunately Woody doesn't appear to bringing in any shooters as of yet. Going to be a long couple of years.
He may be a shooter but is he actaully ready for big time level of college bbal as a freshman? Isnt he really skinny? I find it hard to believe he is going to come in and make an immediate impact.Gunn is most certainly a shooter.

Think of free throws as open shots. They are just not good shooters. Our offense creates very very few good looks for our shooters. Yes, part of this is the fact Kopp and Stewart are slow footed but can't we set some screens or something to get these guys open???
Been saying for two years, think Mo Creek when it comes to Gunn. 3 level scorer and similar body/athletic style. No clue if Gunn will be ready for prime time out of the gate like Creek was, but I think they are very similar players. He may be a shooter but is he actaully ready for big time level of college bbal as a freshman? Creek was ranked pretty high top 50 I think. Gunn is like 100 spots lower so I dont expect him to be ready from day one. Rankings can be wrong but are usually mostly accurate.Been saying for two years, think Mo Creek when it comes to Gunn. 3 level scorer and similar body/athletic style. We've had a ton of top 50 players over the years not come out of the gate hot (or at all) so don't really put to much stock into recruiting rankings outside talking points.Creek was ranked pretty high top 50 I think. It is just amazing but almost like clock work every single year. It is almost like we are fooling ourselves to think we actually could make the NCAA. We were riding high at 7-4 and looked like a lock for the NCAA. Granted we had not hit the hard part of our schedule but all we had to do really was finish 4-5 to get int he tourney. Now we have to go 4-1 which obviously is not happenins to just disappointing on so many levels.I still can't believe we shit the bed so bad in Jan/Feb again.
It just shows how uncompetitive we are against the conference for going on years now.
Shooting has a lot to do with it. And talent.
But I'm pretty sure there's a supernatural being of some sort that hates us. Probably was a big RMK fan.
I would have to agree on the winds quickly going out of the sails in terms of fan excitement. I think Woodson arrived and the fans hoped he would be able to lift the performance of the group, including the returning players from Miller and those he handpicked in the portal, Bates, etc. It has not happened. There are troubling signs that this team is not improving as the season progresses and is just more of the same. I have to admit to me, anymore, if it is convenient to watch the IU game, I will. If not, no big deal. IU basketball was ALWAYS appointment TV for me. But, there just isn’t anything to grab onto now. The team is average at best, and painful to watch because it struggles to score. People point to recruiting, but relying on freshmen is rolling the dice. Maybe this teams goes on a run and gets into the tournament, but at this point, very VERY unlikely.Next year is looking to be very dismal as of right now and I have not talked to any IU fans who seem super excited about the future right now..Woodson really needed to make a statement this year by getting us in the NCAA and he had enough talent to do it. I did not watch any of the Michigan State game and likely will not watch Ohio State unless I see it is a game with about 10 to go but it probably will not be. It just is not that fun to watch and I honestly have better things to do and can just check the score on my phone these days. I honestly was baffled by the Woodson hire and did not at all understand bringing in an NBA guy with zero experience when we likely could have gotten a proven college coach. We will never know for sure but its great he went to IU and loves IU but in the end if he cannot coach good enough to win at this level none of that will matter in the least he will just end up being another failed IU coach.. The culture will not matter we will just be a losing team with a good culture of losing.I would have to agree on the winds quickly going out of the sails in terms of fan excitement. I think Gunn is more athletic then creek. Seems to have great touch too. I think he will do very well. He’s better then Stewart and Bates imoBeen saying for two years, think Mo Creek when it comes to Gunn. 3 level scorer and similar body/athletic style. Woodson has said from the very beginning this team is far behind offensively. I personally think he’s focused on a culture identity of defense and is attempting to recruit players that will fit his offense. The portal helped in some aspects but the results of X have been up and down. Stewart is not big ten level and Kopp isn’t athletic enough to defend his position or get his points like a wing is expected to.I would have to agree on the winds quickly going out of the sails in terms of fan excitement. But what is he going to do next year he will have to hit the portal again for help. We only have three recruits coming in and could still have 4 or 5 spots to fill depending on who leaves or transfers.Woodson has said from the very beginning this team is far behind offensively. Woodson imo has done a good job trying to get these guys to compete at a high level knowing that they would struggle with not being talented, athletic or skilled enough to actually win.
IU hasn’t had a good culture of winning for a long time. The foundation is getting built, I trust the process and am going to temper my expectations until the talent, athleticism and skill levels improve
I think Trayce and Race will be back. Nil will pay them enough to stick around. But what is he going to do next year he will have to hit the portal again for help. We only have three recruits coming in and could still have 4 or 5 spots to fill depending on who leaves or transfers.
Imagine if Phinisee’s shot late against Purdue bounced off?? The Ohio St win would be the feather in the cap at this pointJust imagine how bad this year would look if we had played even an average non conference schedule.
Johnson and Galloway already are non-shooting scorers, because they both look to drive to the basket. So does a healthy Phinisee.More than shooters. We need scorers. Players that can create and score in a variety of ways, like their Davis.
Well, the prime of the Big Ten schedule is in Jan and Feb, so there's that. Probably just a propter hoc correlation instead of a true cause and effect, right?I still can't believe we shit the bed so bad in Jan/Feb again.

Here's what completely blows my mind: We lose Glass and add Scott. We have 5(?) guys leave, we add 5 new guys. We lose a whole coaching staff, and add a whole new coaching staff, including a guy who won a boatload of games in the BT as an advisor, and we end up with.........basically the same team as under Archie. Not really better, not really worse, with all that change. Amazing.I would have to agree on the winds quickly going out of the sails in terms of fan excitement. You may be right but.....I love IU, but I can't imagine those guys, who have been through such failure and disappointment, would want to come back to the same place for a 5th year. That is, that there's not someplace or some other situation that would be better for them.I think Trayce and Race will be back. Nil will pay them enough to stick around.
Phin will also probably be back.
Exactly what they said on the Assembly Call last night. The Purdue win is bascially all we got and we almost blew that one down the stretch.Imagine if Phinisee’s shot late against Purdue bounced off?? The Ohio St win would be the feather in the cap at this point
You are the first one I have heard say that. Every guy I have listened to on podcasts or the radio regarding IU Basketball says they are both gone. Says it is common knowledge within the program Race and TJD were always leaving after this season. Phin possibly could be back.I think Trayce and Race will be back. Nil will pay them enough to stick around.
Phin will also probably be back.

I tried to convince myself by hiring all these great coached around him was going to work. Maybe it will in the long run but right now it is not working.
we got who we could get. Getting an IU guy was a change in strategy, but the first statement is still true. That said, IU prob also needed a coach who was bigger than the job. Again, we weren’t gonna get that guy in a college coach but we did get that guy. No clue if this works out but I feel a bit better knowing our coach has been through more high-stakes crap than a 4 game losing streak in the big ten. I expect less fragility and desperate flailing than with the last couple magpies.
I will never be convinced it was simply we got who we could get. It sounded like Woodson was the #1 candidate after Stevens period. Donors were willing to put up big money for Stevens I am guessing they would have for Beard also if it had been an option. I doubt we even took a shot at drew, beard, oats, etc. Not saying we cold have gotten them I just do not think we tried.we got who we could get. It is what it is at this point and Woodson has to work out period. I mean we change coaches a sixth time the best we could probably get now is another Archie type from a mid major who had a fluke ncaa run.
