Happy 87th Lee Corso

He coached IU to one of the best seasons (1979) in program history, capped off with a Holiday Bowl win over 9th-ranked and previously undefeated Brigham Young.

He's also a genuinely good man.
He is a very good man. The vision of him on all fours in his red on red sweatsuit pounding his fist on the turf makes me smile.

I had the chance in 2016 to chat with him for maybe a combined 10 minutes during breaks on the very cold set of GameDay before the BT title game on Pan Am Plaza. We both knew Fr Higgins and shared some funnies. He also shared his St Elmo Shrimp cocktail which I appreciated. Just a sincerely nice human being.

He regularly attended Sunday Mass at St. Paul's.

Father Higgins would occasionally say Mass in a crimson collar, and he was often found in a certain seat in Section D at AH. Nice man.

Coach Corso once had a ‘meet the Coach’ event on the 1st floor of Briscoe Quad during one of those epic 1-10, 2-11 seasons and was greeted by exactly 3 students. To his credit he choose to engage with those present.

Slightly off topic, but I think Coach O is the closest thing we could get to Corso in terms of personality, likeability, charisma, etc. for College GameDay.
