Great article by Bozich

"For 18 games, Crean, his staff and players have outperformed expectations"

I guess it's a matter of what expectations you have. I like watching this team and hope they do well, but they are not outperforming my year 7 "expectations". They are outperforming the low bar set going into this season due to roster mismanagement.

That being said, if they can get a good big or two in the offseason and have all the key players stay, next year could be really good.

He is basing the expectations on this year alone

and not what the fans think should be happening in year 7. I would bet you or most of us IU fans did not expect this team to be 14-4 and 4-1 in the conference so I would say that they are ahead of this years expectations so far.

Re: He is basing the expectations on this year alone

Good post....unrealistic fan expectations mean nothing. This team could easily have been a train wreck. Long way to go so enjoy the present success and quit whining about not being a top five program this year (or whatever your expectations were). We all wish that was true but not so this year. Pretty fun team to watch right now....

Bozich and I were on the IDS sports staff together when we

were at IU. He was either a year or two ahead of me. Rick was a great guy.

Pretty fair article. Thanks for posting..

We can all point to things we know could help this team now and in future but in terms of maxing out the cards you are dealt (Vonleh leaving, Fischer leaving, injuries to Davis/Perea)....this team is exceeding expectations.

Thursday night will be another stepping stone. 9pm start. Looking forward being there for this one.

Well said about expectations/low bar

The bar has been set low, due to what looked like a disasterous roster imbalance. I still think we needed a couple of more quality bigs, most importantly one very good starter. Just one!

In Year 7, we absolutely SHOULD be a top-25 team. Having said that, Crean has really done quite a nice job thus far of getting a lot out of this imbalanced roster. 4-1 is a fantastic start.

Your low-bar statement applies to some... but

While some had "low-bar" expectations... others did not and did not swallow the chicken little cries that started last spring.... For those "low-bar" expectation holders...Welcome back to Optimism!

Too early to count chickens...

Crean deserves credit for having this squad at 4-1 in conference, no doubt. BUT after the collapse two seasons ago, I'll be watching for the trend down the stretch. Championships are won in March and April, not January.

Cool story bro....

....you like to name drop alot. Yet, it never gives any clout whatsoever.

Who is counting chickens...

If you noticed my post below I said 1 game at a time... No way I am counting on anything that has yet to be completed... I am counting the chicken littles... You need to let go of things from two years ago...get over it... there was one team better than we were that day. No one is saying a championship is pending but they're in the running at this time. Let it play out ... quit with the doom saying... Doom was spouted over and over last Spring and you all were wrong... why keep it up?
