Probably killed her on purpose. Couldn’t live with the idea of her with another man. 30 year age difference. That’s the problem when you’re out at those bars jdb. 63. She had one more run in her. But look at this guy. Those age gaps are real good in the beginning but boy they’re ugly on the back end.

Loved all his work. Very versatile. Liked him best in Hoosiers. Every scene was top drawer.
One of his best with a fitting soundtrack.

Great movie. I'd say one of Wes Anderson's best movies. I love Rushmore - those two are easily head and shoulders the best of that group. I do love Bottle Rocket as a sentimental favorite. I remember watching that and thinking it was like nothing else I'd seen.
The movie was good, but a lot of uniforms errors. They could have consulted with a junior officer and avoided those.
That was a movie that I would stop and watch every time I passed it flipping channels, you know, the old days. Absolutely a hidden gem.

Word is he hated Hoosiers and thought it could ruin his career.
I remember seeing this too. I think the guys who wrote it - who I believe still live in Bloomington - talked about how he almost immediately regretted signing on and basically thought they weren't up to making the movie.
This article quotes David Anspaugh about a scene in the movie where you can actually see Hackman telling Hopper that he thought they both ended their careers by signing onto it:
"There's a scene in the montage where Hickory starts winning, and there's a shot of Dennis Hopper. The camera's across the floor, and it's shooting towards the Hickory bench, and you've got music going. And you see Hopper and Hackman sitting there, and you see Dennis kind of laugh and slap his leg. That was a reaction, and I didn't find this out until just a couple year before Dennis passed. He finally told me, 'Don't you know what happened there? Hackman said to me, 'Dennis, I hope you've invested well, because we'll never work again after this film.' He had no belief in that movie, or me, at the time."
Obviously when the movie came out and it started getting critical acclaim he changed his tune.

Anspaugh also said they wrote a list of things a coach might yell during a game, as Hackman didn't know basketball. He only used one, yelled it over and over and over. Anspaugh was present at IU Cinema for a showing and gave a talk aftward where your story and this one both came out.
Maybe you’ll be able to find a replacement at a local Santa Fe Goodwill store.
Might be blasphemy, but I loved him as the B Movie horror producer who is deep in debt to a Vegas mobster, Harry Zimm in Get Shorty. Not his most challenging dramatic role, but so funny.
