-First quarter IU was dominant on D. Cinci first 4 possessions 3 punt & INT (first time hadn’t gotten 1st down in Q1 under Fickell.

-IU OL played pretty well as IU was running all over Cinci!

-But poor execution on 4th & 1 and an end zone pick by Penix, IU only up 7, & announcer says “Seems like they should be down a lot more”

-Key players standing out for IU thru mid-2nd quarter: Ryder Anderson, Cam Jones, McFadden & R Layne on D. Hendershot, Carr, Matthews. OL playing wel too and Q1, Penix not lights out, but still okay.

-Anderson strip sack & McFadden great fumble recovery, 5:48 left in 2nd, IU scores 5:10, up 14-0. Hard to argue IU not playing well as actually dominating them per stats too.

-4:04 Cinci throw under pressure, incomplete, Cinci QB trotting g off field, crowd pumped up, announcer praises IU pressure, No flags and white had ref was right there on the play. (Great pressure by Handy on that play!). Like being there live, we went from about to be punted to up 14, to 1st down and beat player ejected. Unreal!

-Also highlights Tom Allen Jr now in for McFadden. One of first plays, sends Allen in for a blitz, Ritter runs up middle for 20! While momentum changed.

-Next kickoff Cinci kicks out bounds, we get ball 35! 1:33 left Q2!

-Run, no gain. Then Get 1st down. Next IU snap was at 38 seconds! Penix is tied up, being tackled and instead of going down throws into traffic picked off at IU 45 with 27 seconds. Looked just as bad 2nd time. TAKE THE SACK!!
Announcer “Penix made a mistake trying to make something happen when there is nothing there.” By way, his pass was very high and over the middle. Poor play!!

START 3rd:
Poor kick return for IU, 3 & out on offense, poor punt, great return for Cinci. Off to horrible start of half.

-Desmond Ritter run, see Tom Allen miss him. (At least on next play Allen jr drew a 15-yd penalty!). Cinci misses FG, IU still up 14-10 11:13

-Will say Fryefogle missed a LONG ball that hit him on hands, was good pass by Penix. IU punt 3 & out. Uggh!

6:49 Cinci FG “Illegal formation over snapper” Awful ST play, Cinci goes for/gets 1st down. How IU ST have that happen? Cinci then gets touchdown at 5:47 in 3rd. IU Down 17-14.

-IU goes on noce drive, great route NU Matthew’s, 45-TD gain, then great reverse call to score 3:54 left third. IU up 21-17! Matthew’s making presence felt!

-Followed immediately by KO return. On replay, Burgess way over committed. Question ST coaching prep on that. Lose momentum ASAP! But hey, miss Extra Point, Cinci up 23-21 3:41 third.

-3rd & 11 - can’t get play in, IU has to burn 2nd T.O 3:11 3rd. (Poor coaching prep there!) But IU converts nice pass Penix to Matthew’s 1st down!

-The great Charles Campbell kicks 49 us FG, drills it! IU UP 24-23 41 secs left in 3rd.

START 4th:

-IU has Cinci 2nd 10, incomplete but Rough passer Tom Allen Jr! Automatic 1st. Rules expert on TV says driving into ground was the foul.

-12:13 Cinci TD pass over Mullen to 6’3 receiver. Great pass/play. Cinci false start blows 2-pt oppty. Cinci Up 30-24.

-11:30, 4th & 1, IU goes for it own 35. Pitch to TE- first down. Great call by Sheridan there!

-3rd & 6 47 yd run Ervin Poindexter - Huge run & nice call again Sheridan!

-Great catch/run Hendershot to 5, 1st & goal. Then Penalty on Cinci, half distance to goal! 8:53 on 2!

-Unreal - Baldwin Fumbles on 2!! Replay clear fumble. Unreal! Can IU hold with 8:28 Cinci on own 4. IU only has 1 TO left.

-5:00 Cinci on own 28, 3rd & 10, need a stop! Incomplete! Cinci to punt. Down 6. Fair catch on own 35. Still plenty of time 4:27.

-First play - Sack. 2nd Down : incomplete. 3rd Down: 3:44, INTERCEPTION. Watching it again, he was under pressure but wow, Floated it across field. Shockingly bad pass/decision. Game over from here.

-After watching again at home, IU could have won this game, not only at 8 min mark, but had plenty of time over 4 min to win game, laid a huge egg the last series.

-Sheridan actually wasn’t that bad, not was OL. Do I say great grades for them? No, but seemingly enough to win if convert inside 10 twice and Penix doesn’t panic with 3 picks.

-Defense did enough to win again. 2 takeaways. Played well while game.

-Special Teams: gave up KO TD, also had FG line up penalty that led to First Down instead and which also led to a TD!

Had IU done a few things better and won, we would all be saying great win. But we didn’t and it hurts losing this game should have won.

We shall see how IU responds at WKU, if Allen makes any changes at QB, and if Special Teams cleans up their play.

Get a win and keep improving. This defense is strong. If offense can get going we could knock off plenty of teams in B10 ahead. TBD
