Nice Drive to Indy.
Leaves are starting to turn.
Lucas Oil is a nice place to watch a game.
Seat backs help.
Music was not too loud.

Before the season, I had no idea if we could win this game.
Us playing good defense against Ohio State and Louisville giving up 28 in one quarter to Georgia Tech gave me hope.
The UofL run game worried me.
Our newbie QB’s worried me.

Turns out the teams we’re about the same talent wise, and Louisville barely played better than us.
neither team has power depth.

Short version - it was a winnable that we botched In the first half.

We gave Louisville a 85 TD when one of our safeties botched the deep cover assignment. Always amazing how easy it is to score on ONE mistake.
They worked us for 2 more.

Our first half was 4 punts and a pick.
Our receivers dropped 3 balls that were a touch high but very catchable must catch balls.
Our inability to understand the play clock continues. Not as big of a deal in a first half, but wasting time outs generally leads to a bad bad bad second half habit too.

I had no problem with play call generally. We had some nice calls and a couple of clinkers. I would not have called ”RB jumps over line from the 3“ at the half yard line, but they didn’t ask me.

Drove to Kentucky and watched Akron. Their QB played very well but Kentucky wore them down and blew it up late. They aren’t big, but they are quick quick, play fundamentally sound. If we don’t act like Joe Btfsplk riding Eyore all week its still a “likely win.”

Maryland blew up late and score 42 against Virginia. That one moved a step away farther from winnable, but if we play well we can win. I’m more of a believer in our defense than I was before the Louisville game. But Tagaviolina will feast on any safety mistakes

Rutgers still has not convinced me they are THAT good. NW, Temple and Va. Tech are no Mt. Rushmore. Rutgers is solid but not awesome.

Same with Wisconsin. They are still unproven.

Illinois has started slow … again. They move another step toward winnable.

Michigan State is a mess.

Purdue is floundering too.

The margin is thin, but 6 or 7 wins is still in play. If we win at Maryland, look out.

I wanted to win.
We lost because of the first half and inability to smash in from the 1/2 yard line.

And congrats to my man Wommack. He’s a man. He’s 36.
He went 5-7 in his first year as South Alabama.
He went 10-3 last year, losing at UCLA on the last play to open the season.
He won at Oklahoma State yesterday.
Saban looks worried.
