Game 3

IU up 4-3 in the T7th, IU dodged a bullet in the 6th when Clemson loaded the bases with two outs. For once, it was Clemson doing us a favor by walking what is the leading run for now. When we leave Clemson after this game, the one thing we are going to leave behind are a bunch of bruises with all of the batters we hit this weekend.

How many HBP do our pitchers have?

The walks are disgusting.
I don't know how many walks we have issued or batters we have hit, but there have been several over the weekend and they have usually come at an inopportune time. Clemson still has three innings left unless we blow the lead, so there is time for some more hit batters. As you indicated, we have had a ton of walks and we just walked another batter with one out in the 7th. I hope that walk doesn't come back to haunt us. IU is changing pitchers after the walk and is bringing Braydon Tucker.

Well, we just coughed up the lead with Clemson still batting in the 7th and the game tied at 4-4. Tucker came in with a man on through a walk and one out, and he gave up a single and a walk to load the bases. He then got a K for two outs but turned around and walked in the tying run.

We gave up the tying run in the 7th, but that was the limit of the damage done. IU batting in the 8th, with the top of the order up.

Tucker loaded the bases with two walks and an infield single, but got a K to end the inning and we are going to extra innings tied at 4-4, with the No. 9, 1 and 2 batters up in the order.

IU missed out on a golden opportunity in the top of the 10th, when they had the bases loaded on two walks and and infield single with two outs but couldn't get a run across. Clemson batting in the B10th.

IU loses, 5-4, as Clemson scores the winning run on a SF scoring the runner from 3rd in the 10th. We outhit Clemson 9 to 7 and had no errors, but walks came back to haunt us in this one. As we all know there are a lot of factors that we can look at in why a game was lost, but when we walked in the tying run in the 7th, it really cost us the game. We can also look at the 16 runners we left on without getting that clutch hit. At least this game wasn't nearly as bad as the first two, but a loss is a loss, and we move on.

I saw all three. At least today gave a bit of encouragement. A few pitchers did all right and a couple of newcomers in the lineup looked good. I thought Glasser and Doanes were good as the DP combination and Tibbitts has a good future.

I guess we’ve gotten to the point where being competitive in one game of three against a mid-tier ACC team is encouraging. Sucks to believe that, but after the first 2 disasters, I guess it’s true. This might be a long season. Do we get RPI points for close?

What happened to the roster? I don’t recognize the majority. How many transferred out and what were the reasons? Were they unexpected? I thought Coach Mercer was an above average recruiter and viewed as a progressive with all the metrics that he uses.

Good questions. All I know for sure is after watching a good chunk of all 3 games this weekend, I wish our jerseys had names on the back. I found myself studying the roster and bios more than I’ve ever done before.

it’s a whole new team playing an awful lot of transfers and freshmen. Can’t remember a team in the past 10-12 years that didn’t have any recognizable upperclassmen.

I joked in another post that the team needs to wear name tags like at a 50-year reunion just so everyone could introduce themselves. We got hit harder than any team in the B1G during the MLB draft and we had several players enter the portal. We have 27 players on the roster that are redshirt sophs or younger, just two seniors returning from last season's team, and we have had some players come in from the portal. It's almost like we are not reloading but starting all over again. It's too soon to give up on the season since it was just the season opening series with a team from a strong baseball conference, but it certainly wasn't encouraging. I noticed that former Hoosier Toetz is starting in the infield for Purdue, and they took the easy route to open a season by sweeping South Dakota State in four games down in Texas.

Still early, indeed. But between IU football, basketball and the start of baseball season.....pretty horrible year for the 3 sports for the Hoosiers. At least we have soccer and women's basketball. And swimming and diving. Time to switch sports I follow!

I was just thinking the same. LOL.
Don't speak too soon about the Lady Hoosiers. They may be staring at a 3 game losing streak going into the BTT. Uhhgg! Maryland at Maryland will be tough. Tough going for all IU Athletics right now. Men's Wrestling and Women's Softball haven't been much to brag about either. I don't follow Tennis, LaCrosse, Golf and CC much so not sure how we fare there. Track and Field used to be pretty good. Still rooting hard for the Cream and Crimson but it sure has been a disheartening year to say the least.
Hopefully Baseball and Softball will come around.
Go Hoosiers!
