Galloway Surgery

Premie reporting that Galloway is going under the knife for his groin injury he played with last year.

Out for the next few months. I wonder why he didn’t get this done immediately after the season?

I don't know. Maybe it's not responding to treatment and they finally decided surgery was the best option?

Likely the docs wanted to try rest and rehab. If it is a several month recovery, they had to pull the trigger now to allow 3-4 months before mid Octobe.
I wonder how his wind will be early on.

Missing the whole off-season probably isn’t great for his PT regardless of wind early on.

Sit him in a chair under the basket and let him shoot from a seated position with the focus on upper body form.

Trying to remember who was featured in pregame this past season where they showed rehab and form practice from a seated position.

won't expect the motor in November (except in short bursts) that we're used to seeing, but by B1G season should be a major contributor.
Don't know why you wouldn't. He hit the ground running when he returned from a mid-season injury this past year. I'd guess they'll find some way to keep his cardio up and get him as much work as possible and he'll be the same effort guy when he returns. I'm more sad about his shooting; that would really expand his game and will probably be the hardest thing to work on in recovery. Hope he and Jordy spend a lot of gym time together!

Jordan is going to embarrass our entire team, hopefully making them want to work harder. He is so much better at shooting than anyone we have.

amazes me how so many downplay his contributions to our relative success during the '11-'13 run that led to a couple S16's and a B1G championship... He was no Yogi, but there haven't been many Yogis at IU over my lifetime.

I was good friends with his older brother when I was in HS and college. To this day he will tell you we lost to Cuse cuz Jordy had a separated shoulder. When you think about it, if he cant shoot, he is a liability on the floor. His shooting made up for his defensive deficiencies.

can't agree more with this.... but there was a lot more than Jordy's shoulder separation that went into that loss... That was the day Crean lost most of Hoosier nation.

Yep, I'd agree, and the primary "other" factor to me was Cody not taking the elbow jumper and driving into the lane and the heart of the zone. Frustrating a week later to watch Mitch McGary, who overall I thought was a lesser player and shooter to Cody, hit elbow jumper after jumper.

I could be wrong but I don't think Jordy can 'coach' any players. I thought his position was purely administrative.

Yogi was rattled in that game. He was the one who should have sat. Will had his head on straight he should have played majority of the 2nd half.

Jordan may have not been able to shoot but he also didn't make dumbass decisions against the zone. We needed to play with a bigger lineup, putting both out there made it too easy on Cuse's guards who constantly posted ours up. It would also have moved Vic off the baseline where he was ineffective and put him up top more ...

Crean got his ass handed to him because he spazzed and went all "lets run weird stuff" when all he had to do was run the same simple offense most of those players learned in the 7th grade. It isn't what you're running, it's how well you run it. Keep it simple.

Sticking dipo in short corner was a dumb ass move. Having Cody catch in the high post while stationary, and then drive, was a dumbass move. Playing two hobbits against a tall backcourt was a dumbass move. Pulling the most consistent perimeter player we had and replacing him with the least was a dumbass move .. Over emphasizing the opponents defense was a severely dumbass move .. The first rule of zone defense is not to help it by being a spaz as a player, or coach. It's the anti spaz offense.

No, I don't think Jordan not being able to shoot was the reason we lost. It was one reason. More that the coach made so many dumbass moves combined that he eventually offset any advantage we had.

Everything you mention is spot on...

I'd add that CWat could/should have been utilized more in that high post area...with that high post basically being top of the key. Cody running the baseline would have made much more sense, as that was one of this biggest strengths as a big...catching dump down passes and making 1 and 2 dribble moves around and under the basket. The worst thing that happened was the first or 2nd possession we got the ball to Cody in the mid post, he dumped it down to Olidipo for an easy layup attempt (I think he got fouled). Fools gold. Crean tried over and over again to recreate that play. It was never there again, for a reason.

To me, that game was just an indictment on Crean's inadequacies as a game manager. And also his inability to coach a team to play good, solid defense. All we needed in that game was to get a few more stops here and there, to allow us to get out in transition and work with numbers.

Our defensive ratings that year weren't terrible. But like every Crean coached team, when they needed stops, they didn't get them.

Despite the offensive woes, even 5 more stops in that game, could have completely changed the flow and dynamics of how that game played out.

I think I saw a clip of Trace doing it.

Anybody know the usual recovery time for a groin surgery?
If it is three months he is ready by mid September. If 4 months than mid October.
