You will not get traditional vetting with a Trump administration because they don’t care. We are way past normal process like who have you contributed money too or is there anything in your past that could embarrass the POTUS? What is publicly known about a candidate like Gaetz would be disqualifying in normal administration.

All I can say is: WOW
It was my contention all along that Gaetz wasn't going to get confirmation because he went after McCarthy and now I believe it even more. I always thought the charges of underage sex was bogus, although I think Gaetz, as a young-ish bachelor, certainly was a horn-dog.
Gaetz would have blown up the Senate and the media if he laid this story out in the hearings.
I think some deals were struck to keep this quiet (although it's out now).
What did I miss? The thread I read didn't disprove Gaetz had sex with the 17-year-old; it only said she had a fake ID that said she was 18. Nor did it disprove that Gaetz and the sex trafficker were longtime friends, photographed together at parties.
So he did have sex with the 17-year-old? At a coke and hooker party?
And nothing there explains the Venmo and Paypal payments in increments of $400 and $500 dollars to women. Those payments are pretty clearly payments for prostitutes.
As for trying to keep Gaetz version of this story quiet, this stuff has already been out there, no? Isn't this the story he's been using for a while now?

My comments werren't about any prostitution charges - because there aren't any. The DoJ investigated and, evidently found none.
I guess what you missed was that there was plenty of evidence that Gaetz and his dad were being blackmailed. There is no 'evidence' of the age of the girl, other than the claim of someone in prison who was giving out information to try to cut a deal.
No, it's hasn't been 'out there' - it's rumors that have been leaked. If you can find anything about public charges from officials, feel free to post them.
The blackmail angle has been bandied about for some time, so nothing new there. Maybe the House Ethics Committee addressed it. Let's see what the report says.

And we have a girl who says she was at the party who had sex with him. And another who says she saw them having sex. Both under oath. That's evidence, with quotations or without. Regarding the woman's actual age at the time in question, what kind of evidence do you need? Her birth certificate?
Gaetz might not be charged with paying a prostitute. Who cares? Even if it can't be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, it is still relevant as to his confirmation as the Attorney General of the United States. And you have to bury your head in the sand to conclude he wasn't paying for sex.
Now, if we want to discuss whether that should disqualify him, I'm open to it. But first, we need to agree on the facts. Gaetz has ducked and dived, and come up with some other interesting stories, but none of them detract from the fact that he had sex with a teenage girl--probably not knowing her exact age--at a coke party with a bunch of prostitutes. Nor do those stories contradict or call into question that he has a history of payments to women that look exactly like payments to prostitutes while having a friend involved in sex trafficking prostitutes.

The asshole who was sentenced to 11 years provided more than one underage girl with genuine Florida credentials showing their age was 20. His position gave him access to the mechanism allowing this. These licenses were issued by the state of Florida and were totally genuine, but fake.
I'm sure the DoJ didn't press any charges because they go easy on Republicans.

But you guys are like a French mob, calling for someone's head based on hysteria. Who gives a shit if he had sex with young women or paid them for it? Morality didn't mean shit with Clinton, and he still gets out and campaigns and is revered within the Party.
We all know that if the DoJ could have prosecuted him for anything, they'd have done it. You guys continue doing what you did with Trump - proclaim him guilty when he's not even charge him with anything. Show me the person and I'll show you a crime.

First, the charge of underage sex wasn't bogus--you've now admitted it happened. (FYI--lack of knowledge of the girl's age is usually not a defense to a statutory rape charge. But that is a matter to be looked into by a Florida DA, I'd think, not the feds. If he was provided an ID or she looked 18, and I'm sure she did, personally, I don't think he should be charged on that).
Second, the reason Gaetz didn't get the confirmation was, in very large part, because of the first issue and the fact that he very clearly participated in parties with hookers and drugs (hey there, Hunter Biden!) and paid prostitutes. Also, the reason he went after McCarthy was to punish him for not nixing the ethics committee investigation.
Third, he wouldn't have blown up the Senate and media with his story, and there were no deals struck to keep it quiet, because his bullshit conspiracy theory has been floated and the facts about the extortion attempt have been known for three years, including the Iran hostage bit.
