Getting right to it, the biggest news on the recruiting front over the last week was the firing of Texas head coach Chris Beard and how that impacts 2024 four-star Montverde Academy wing Liam McNeeley. Indiana and Texas were the two programs that meant the most in this recruitment and Chris Beard's involvement was significant for Texas. With him gone, that is a signifiant development for Indiana.
TheHoosier.com spoke with McNeeley yesterday and the relationship with Indiana has 'been great. I love talking to them'.
At this moment, McNeeley is going to hold off on anything until he sees who is on staff at Texas. Right now, that is a major question. He is going to let things sit a bit and see how things move with the Texas staff.
Per one source, "I’d say the longer this drags on the better it is for IU."
Rivals national recruiting analyst Travis Graf to TheHoosier.com on the Beard firing:
“On the surface, Beard’s firing looks big for the Hoosiers, who I viewed at the top of this race alongside the Longhorns. I don’t think this place’s Indiana in the ‘lock’ category by any means, but it certainly helps their chances.”
I would move Indiana into the 1A category right now, but there isn't an expected decision any time soon.
Indiana, Michigan, Arkansas, Texas look like the group right now.

2024 four-star forward Derik Queen from Montverde Academy was terrific yesterday in Montverde's win over Sunrise Academy. He scored 34 of Montverde's 64 points and had 11 rebounds. It was the best I had seen him play in some time. He was aggressive attacking the rim from the perimeter and showed a good ability to hit mid-range jumpers. His footwork is tremendous and his physical play and motor was on full display on Thursday.
For his recruitment, Indiana, Maryland and Auburn are still the three schools to monitor.
He has visited Indiana and Maryland. The biggest question now is stay in the 2024 class or move to the 2023 class. As of now, things indicate he will stay in the 2024 class. Indiana will take him either way.

2024 four-star wing Rakease Passmore continues to get looks from major blue blood programs. He is expected to take an unofficial visit to Duke next week and Kansas has started to get involved.
Passmore visited Indiana this fall and Indiana remains very active in his recruitment. They sent Kenya Hunter to watch him last week at the John Wall invitational and have been in to see him a few times this fall as well.

Upcoming confirmed visits are:
2025 wing EJ Walker - Jan 8.
2024 four-star forward Raleigh Burgess - Jan 28.
