Fred, here is the names you start with...
Brad Stevens....You have to make the call to at least know if interested.
Greg Marshall...IU fans know basketball and this guy "coaches" good basketball.
Chris Mack.....Done a very good job a Xavier and has a great relationship with Indiana high school coaches and AAU coaches.
Archie Miller.....Comes from good bloodlines and coaching tree
Tony Bennett...coaches a brand of basketball that IU fans would embrace
Thad Matta.....Rumblings of health issues but the guy can coach and recruit
Brad Underwood....kind of a flyer here but a guy that is building a solid reputation
Kevin Stallings....yes a PU disciple but a guy that can coach and develop players.

I think our next coach is in this group right here.....what say you?

Is Underwood the coach at Stephen F. Austin

Do you mean Kevin Stallings ay Vanderbilt?
Or the former Bama FB coach?

Everyone's list should start with Stevens. You have to at least ask. After him Marshall or Miller would be fine with me. Matta is not going to be at tOSU that many more years in my opinion. He has a terrible back problem. He is not 50 yet but he sure seems like he is. I am ok with any coach that values tough hard nosed defense.

The whole Brad Stevens interested in IU thing is pretty similar to the Calipari UK hire, I'm not saying he is interested in leaving Boston which would be a hard gig to leave (Go Celtics!), but I remember the first time around after Tubby left UK some of us wanted Calipari I know I did because of the recruiting. We didnt even ask the guy if he was interested and he later admitted he waited and waited for a phone call from UK and never got one, well UK hired that drunk asshole and when he was canned after 2 seasons, we ended up calling Calipari and he was interested and it happened. Brad Stevens may still be interested in coaching IU, I hope he doesn't because i like him and I am a Celtics fan, but its not impossible with the right people (and money).

Kevin Stallings....NO.

I agree with your list OP. Stevens is obv. #1. I think Bryce Drew should be #4 or 5 on that list though. Maybe even Mark Few.

You back up the Brinks truck in Stevens yard. You let his children and family pick stacks of hundreds out of the back. All day. Then you tell Stevens he'll be treated like Saban at Alabama ... for life.

Done deal.

Yah, I agree with Stevens, Marshall, Bennett, Miller...absolutely. Someone else said Bryce Drew and I would take a hard look at him as well. Could be at IU for many, many years.

You call Brad Stevens...then you call Brad Stevens back...call him again. If he still says No... you have to think about if you want to make a change for the sake of making a change and risk the lack of a proven winner.

If so, you call in no order Dane Fife, Archie Miller, Greg Marshall, and Chris Collins.

If you can't get them... you resign.

Asking Stevens is a no-brainer. I honestly think that he'll want the IU job, but he won't admit it publicly.

If Stevens did turn it down, Marshall has to be your second choice.

Miller or Mack would be the third option. I have a kid at Xavier and I've seen Mack operate firsthand. Great guy, very approachable. He was instrumental in getting the Lauren Hill game at Cintas, and had a "scholarship press conference" for a kid afflicted with a serious illness. Just a great human being and coach.

We have no chance with Bennett - not after his sister was fired by IU.

Better chance at Stevens then Bennett....

No way Bennett sets foot in Assembly Hall except as Wisconsin's new coach.

I would not want Bennet's style of ball. Sure it has it's effectiveness on some levels but I can't bear watching 45-40 games. Granted, it's much more successful than our current swiss cheese but it just doesn't pass the eye test. there are many winning coaches out there with more appealing styles

Of course he won't admit it publicly while he is employed elsewhere. That would be career suicide. I have no idea if Stevens would come here or not, but he's smart enough not to say anything stupid.

Not would I expect him to.

I also wouldn't expect him to cut down nets after a loss on senior day . . .

Call Stevens and/or Marshall until you get notice that a restraining order has been filed. Then call them a couple more times after that.

Not sure how locked in Chris Collins is with Northwestern, but if Brad Stevens is not willing to consider the job, I would take a long look at him. He building something at Northwestern, imagine IU!!!!

I would not settle on this one. Brad Stevens is the guy for sure. I would wait on him and if he signs another contract with the Celtics then i would move on. Other than that....I'm waiting for him. Archie Miller is the only other coach i would consider on that list.

All of the above would be an upgrade from where we are currently. Marshall would be the next best after Stevens but I think Mack would be a badass at IU. Especially on the recruiting trail

If you can't get Stevens you don't wait on him for another few years and keep clappy. It's time for clappy to go no matter what.

I prefer Stevens, as most do, but I think it is a longshot. I haven't seen the names King Rice or Ben Jacobson mentioned, but they might be worth a look. Jacobson signed a 10 year extension last spring, but so what?

You can't wait on Stevens and if he says no then go on to the next one which should be Marshall and to me he is right there with Stevens to me.

Mack and Bennett! What Bennett is doing in VA is nothing short of spectacular! Brad Steven would be in the same stratosphere as Jim Harbaugh to Michigan,Urban Meyer to Ohio State, or even John Calipari to kentucky!!

Stevens aint coming to IU...anybody who isnt a delusional die hard IU fan can see that. Hes coaching the CELTICS! Why would you want to recruit 24/7/365? I would reset your scope and start zooming on guys like the mick Cronins and archie millers of the world. Tony Bennett aint coming either...why would he leave UVA that has brand new/amazing facilities? Greg Marshall? Better be ready to pony up a huge buyout from Wichita.

since it is obvious that you are a UK fan so why do you care who we hire or who is on our list.

Unfortunately the number 1 guy on Fred's list is Tommy boy! Face it, we are stuck for a minimum of 2 more seasons. Depressing

Mack over Marshall IF there is a change. I just don't see it. We will win enough games to get to the tourney so Fred will stick with the improvement he sees even though that improvement was against less talent. Depressing

Still early in the season, but beating ND is a MUST if IU wants to go dancing in March. Our easy schedule might hurt us more than help us get into the tourney. As far as I can tell we've got two opportunities to get a decent road win in conference. At MSU and at Iowa. MSU is always tough at home and Fran McCaffery seems to have Crean's number. Seems like they beat us every year. But we'll see. Maybe we do win out at home and that's enough.

Stallings is a great coach held back at an academic school. He would be fantastic at another school with less restrictions.

Maybe it's been brought up before, but what about Tom Thibodeau. He had success with the bulls. I know he's an NBA guy, but would he not be worth a look?
