Ford & GM Raise Prices

How much did fast charging station cost?
I bought the charger through our local energy company so I got a nice rebate with that purchase. I think it ran me around $300. We were lucky on the installation because our box had capacity and the location was on the exterior of the garage.

For the next 3/4 years I will be putting 40,000 miles per year on my vehicle. From what I can find batteries probably wear out around 200,000 miles. I am trying to figure out if an EV makes sense right now for me.

I would say right right now, no. As I said before, there are supposedly a bunch of cars on container ships that are currently stuck in customs (and that includes parts for assembling cars here in this country that are also stuck on those boats). From what we can tell, a lot of dealerships are adding $3000 to $7000 on to MSRP because their stock is so low right now. If you look on car websites, alot of the 2023 models are cheaper but have a "Coming Soon!" tag (ie, still stuck on the boat).
So I suspect the prices are going to come down in a few months (or, at least I really hope they do).

We were kinda forced into buying a car right now, but it is honestly one of the worst times to do it I have ever seen.

Makes sense.

So much for Biden’s great bill. Now set back and watch prices increase by the tax increase Joe is putting on corporations.

I didn’t realize you were required by the government to buy a car at a certain price. Who do you want to jump in a set the price of cars in the US.

The point of the article isn’t the government setting the price. The point is Car Manufacturers are going to raise prices by amount of the credits. Therefore no real benefit of credit.

Gas or electric, chicks are always expensive.

Which EV did you purchase? I’ve been talking to my local Ford Dealer about a new Explorer. They can’t give me an estimate when they might have one available.
We bought an explorer. It’s the sport model. Wife likes it. Terrible in town mileage. It’s shines on the highway.

I know for my wife's Bolt, when you buy a new one, installation of a lvl2 charging station in your home is free as long as it is a "standard" installation. The installer is coming next week.

Standard installation means space in your electrical panel, relatively easy path of wiring from panel to charging station location, and sufficient capacity to the house. IF something is non standard, Chevy covers first $1000.

Worst case (ie, something like having to dig a new line to your house from the transformer), it can run you about $5000 (or so I've seen online, but those might be horror stories).
200 amp service. They never tell you because the salesman want to sell. If it’s 100 amp that’s when it get more expensive.

On the Maverick. I ordered mine almost 10 months ago. No build date. Im going to get rolled over to model year 2023 in mid September. Im not sure when I’ll get the truck. So, I wouldn’t order one if you actually need a car in the next 12-18 months.
I’m waiting for the plug in hybrid version. I finally got to see a maverick up close and for the money it looks great.

Yes they are. I wanted electric. I have an IU Crimson gas now. The has a white gas blazer with black top and black rims. Thought I liked my Explorer more but the Blazer is growing on me.

So what. No one is forcing you to buy a car at any price.

No but naive Americans are being screwed by this slight of hand. They aren’t getting a vehicle at a discount if the many manufacturers raise the prices by the discount amount. The credit is just an illusion. And BIG BAD GREEDY business profits.

What are you talking about? The issue is their taking other people’s money to subsidize wealthier peoples car purchases. Its not needed and another example of government waste.

No shit. Kia and Hyundai have come a long way, but they're still behind most all the other major brands.
speaking of brands dodge is killing off the charger and challenger. i'm surprised to hear there was a market for those two cars to begin with, but whatever. once they're gone all they have is the durango and ram truck. that's it. for the entire brand. crazy

Ummmm….naive? Pot, meet kettle.

FBI & DOJ should be cleaned out just like what’s happening at CNN.
Because they aren’t okay with criminal activity?

Let’s get to reality. You want police and politicians to behave according to your political ideology.

Pretty frightening.

The “subsidy” you’re imagining is addressing the point you’re trying to make. And if you can’t afford a $23,000 car in 2022, I have classic advice for you; get a job.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV offers another example of electric cars' costs coming closer to parity with gas models. When it was first introduced for 2017, the Bolt EV wore a starting price of $37,495. That same model year, the entry-level gas-powered Chevrolet Trax LS subcompact SUV cost $21,895.

Five model years later, the Bolt EV's base price has dropped to $32,495, while the Trax now comes in at $22,595. In less than a dozen model years, the delta between these two models has fallen from $15,600 to $9900. And that delta is due to get even closer for model year 2023, with the Bolt EV's base price falling to $26,595. While the Bolt EV has not been eligible for the federal tax credit for some time now (blame the fact that Chevy sold more than 200,000 plug-in hybrids and EVs, the credit's prior cap), the passage of the IRA means the American-made Bolt EV will once again include the incentive of federal tax credits (potentially the full $7500).

So, why are you bringing communist values to our system? You want the government telling private businesses what price to charge for their products?

Do you want the government telling you, a successful businessman with a hot Canadian girlfriend, what to charge your clients?

Oh, got it. Now…when are you going to start complaining about Porsche and their Taycan?

Pull up your bootstraps. I’m tired of paying for the great unwashed.

What do you care? I was under the impression you were all about free markets, no? No one is required to buy a car at any price in the USA!

You make the impression you make mucho dinero with your big time CPA firm (😂). But you’re complaining about prices of EVs?

Make up your mind!

What’s your favorite Ferrari? One of my golf buddies just bought a 2021 Portofino. I think it’s the Rosso Mugello color. He just had it delivered from Ferrari of Central New Jersey a week or so ago. Other golf buddy has 2020 in Blu Scozia he keeps in Naples, FL. Trying to decide which color I want to keep in Florida. Can’t be driving it around in Indiana. People won’t understand it’s the poor man’s Ferrari. Looking for low dollar EV to drive back and forth to work in Indiana. Don’t want to upset any clients.

As an update, the installer came today. Two guys. About two hours. Had to do a quick adjustment to my electrical panel (only had one slot free, and a 208v breaker takes two slots), but they were able to add the breaker, run the wire through the basement to the garage wall and install the new outlet in about two hours.

No charge. Fully covered by Chevy.

I had been afraid that they were going to come up with some BS reason why it wasn't going to be a standard installation, but apparently my fears were unjustified.

How much bailing wire? How much duct tape?

I bet they’re not complaining about GM and Ford raising their prices 8%. What’s your excuse?
