Flat..

We’ve proven we’re a 2nd half team, I’d like to see us show that we can be a 1st half team, too.

I think at one point we were 6 for 19 early on..
We never have a nice flow to the game.
This team just likes to ugly it up .
And then grinds out wins..Its not very pretty basketball. .But it's been effective. .
Think we all can see how important Rob is ..
Go Hoosiers!

A possession team, not a flow team. That's what we want for close games but it works a lot better when everyone is healthy.

How in the world does Fitzner get playing time? I guess because he is 5th year year but Lord have mercy!

Are the other tall kids that bad?
Can't agree with more. Recruited to shoot but hasn't taken a shot to even try to loosen up the defense in the interior. Play DA, at least not afraid to shoot and hits once in awhile

Playing against Ill D is like playing in knee deep mud. Reminds me a bit of old Gene Keady teams that turned games into wrestling matches.

This team needs some outside shooting. Love how they get to the rim but in order to get to the next level they need shooting.

The slow starts are a problem and with the upcoming schedule it could cost them in a big way. But last night was very similar to what we've been seeing - a quick shot here, a lazy pass there, and next thing you know they are trailing. In all fairness, Illinois played a strong first half.

Part of the first half woes may be the fear of early fouls. JM and RL know if they get two quick fouls they are on the bench for a long time. That and the lack of depth means they have to be cautious early in the game on D.

Side note - The number of times DG bobbles the dribble or catch is disturbing for a Jr guard.

I honestly think we've got some guys capable of shooting the trey. But we do very little to help manufacture good shot opportunities. No one is going to shoot well from behind the arc getting the looks we've been putting up.

last night's game affirmed the two things i hate most about college basketball. the shot clock and bill rafferty

We got all kinds of guys who can shoot the three, but only a couple that can make them.

Can't throw it in the ocean.
Again!
I have stopped worrying about slow starts. Our D has shown it can create opportunities to get the offense moving.

We do need to solve the issue as the top teams won't allow us to come back as easy. I am sure Archie is anxious to improve that part of the game.

Yes - and no.

Very few times are guys just horrible from 3 point distance. But the majority of low percentage shooters IMHO don't have success due to the shot attempt they get: Are they getting clean looks, able to step into the shot in rhythm? Do they have a defender in their face, hand extended? Are they getting the ball in a place behind the arc they're more comfortable shooting from (some guys like to shoot it from the corner but would brick it all day long from the top of the key).

You need to have spacing, movement away from the ball/screens and need to move the ball with purpose, whether by dribble or pass. Having a PG who understands the flow of the offense, can read the defense and get the ball to guys where they are most effective can go a long ways toward shooting a good percentage. The McIntosh kid who played at Northwestern is a great example of a PG who properly distributes the ball to where it needed to go.

I have these feelings as well and I can't help but see a team in the tournament make too many threes against us to get achieve a huge lead like virginia last year.
