Fisch and Suhr need to go.

Listen to Fisch on the radio next week against the Cincinnati. And then make up your own mind.
I'm sure you could do better. So what's stopping you? Maybe you'd like to organize a 'Protest Fisch' march in Indy & Memorial Stadium? You post very, similar to a troublemaker on other boards around here. I'll bet you know the Purdue posters real well by now, right Johnnypurdue/JohnnyDoeBoiler? Slow day at the office?

I may be a little bit over the top but hey it’s a discussion board and the purpose of a discussion is to elicit a response. I’m not questioning the contribution that these guys have made to Indiana University sports program. But I am think about Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman: What have you done for me lately?

A massive overreaction. On the contrary. Yes analogous to the situation of the band. They both are terrible.

I thought it was a career officer in the military. After 30 years if you were not promoted to admiral or general you were out. The military needs to make room for new blood. Politics should be the same.

Fisch is absolutely terrible. And if you don’t acknowledge it it’s because you’re too much of a homer and/or you haven’t listenEd to him. Although he has the best of intentions, he is dragging the program down.
Dragging the program down???

I personally like a later game but lots of kids were ready to go by 10:00 and Indy was a long commute on the disaster known at 37/69.
Even longer when you get a flat tire and have to wait for the company to get through football traffic. I think the kids love night games. They would have stayed if it was close, I think. I’ll be interested to see if they get to the noon game on time.

Late in the third-quarter the two of them were going on and on complaining about how late it was going to be when they got home. With about 12 minutes to go in the game Suhr said that Indiana was playing a lot of players in the last 20 minutes of the game. Fish added that he did not know if Idaho was playing their first or second string. They laughed and about how the students all left at halftime and that by the end of the third-quarter most people were gone. That makes me want to buy a ticket!

If you are an Indiana Hoosier fan and you’re on the road driving with your kids, and listening to these two numbskulls call an Indiana game, there is absolutely nothing said that would motivate you to buy a ticket or catch your kids interest. I blame Fisch more than Suhr.. Suhr tries to carry him but it’s not very effective

I have no idea if the Hoosiers are playing man or zone. I never have an idea if anybody is controlling line of scrimmage. You can go to whole game without hearing Kaleb Jones name called. I don’t know if that’s good or bad. I know Fisch is an icon of the program but he’s dragging it down.

And this year I have to pay to listen to these games on the Learfield radio. At least half a dozen times per night I listen to the same inane story about some high school players playing Jump on a boom box before they do their basketball warm-up layup drill. Nothing is fresh.

Know if they could get Coach Allen on the radio after the game because of technical issues. Since when is it being inept technical? These guys to a higher standard. If you listen to Michigan or Ohio State these guys sound like they’re announcing a high school game.
.
I’ve got to agree although I’m not sure how they are dragging the program down. Buck thinks he’s a comedian and Fisch seems compelled to laugh. Think it’s time to move on.

Fisch is a legend, but being honest, I have noticed some decline - started year before last, was hoping at the time it was just an off game - time to go...? Not yet - still love “he’s hit and he’ll go down”...!

Fischer is a national treasure to me. I grew to love IU football because of Fisch as IU was rarely on TV when I was young. I have always liked Buck's perspective as well. I'll be sad when he retires. I wonder if a former player like ARE would do radio.

It seems that Don loves the Suhr family. What was the deal with Dinardo and Buck? Why was he so adamant at getting rid of him. Seemed personal. Any insight on that?

I would say Dinardo was being an azz. He once kicked a manager out of practice because his khaki pants weren’t “khaki “ enough. He was hard to deal with.

Buy a ticket and go to the game. We don't leave until it is over. We got home at 12:15 CST / 1:15 EST. We will leave town around 6:00 a.m. this Saturday. You do what you have to do if you want to go bad enough.

We listened to the end of the OSU and turdue game on the way to Btown and agreed a sideline reporter like the other broadcasts would clear up the confusion Buck and Fischer have. I agree that a school with the technology we have should provide good equipment and backup systems.

BTW, I was thinking about making up a dozen Indinia game jerseys for our Section 9 crew or sell them outside the stadium. Shouldn't be a trademark issue.

Lol. That might rival the Catholics vs Convicts t shirts.

I have Sirius XM and always listen to a variety of games going to and from Bloomington on game weekends. Those games are from coast to coast and every school in between. Many of the schools that use former players, it’s downright terrible. Many of these guys are just incoherent. Guys - we don’t have it that bad.1

I mentioned ARE because I have heard him speak and he is pretty well spoken. Not sure how he would do on radio though.

Did not live in Florida I would be at every home game.

"That makes me want to buy a ticket?"

It's not their job to sell tickets, roll over for anyone, or make up things. It's their job to inform you about IU football, & what's happening on the field. Where did you ever get a radio that doesn't have the function of changing stations? Since when is IU football the only entity to ever have 'technical difficulties'? Wow???
Going to tell me that the marching band is good also?

Why would you go to a football game, then pay more attention to the marching band, than the team you paid to see on the field? You should be looking for better qb play, not band play. D. Dakich will tell us all about it today, as he claims his Colts pick to win yesterday, was the fault of the head coach & GM. He's always right. Just ask him.

Don't most people watch the games on TV these days? I can't imagine many people want to mess with streaming radio and syncing the TV to it when all they have to do is turn up the TV volume. You get more info from the TV guys.

I haven't listened to the radio broadcasts in YEARS.

I listen to the radio broadcasts. Maybe work on something in the barn while the game is on. It’s kind of relaxing and more enjoyable when it’s against lesser competition.

Night games are for Friday high school football. Game should be no later than 3:30 pm. Start tailgating in the morning go to the game, then you can go out for dinner/bars after and leave when you want, if you live out of town. A night game just ruins your whole evening and those driving back to Indy don’t get home until well past midnight if they stay for the whole game.

The noon kickoff for Cincinnati will be great - if they win go to Nick’s after and celebrate with fans, instead of having to drive home and fight the traffic if you live up north.
Well I sure had a lot of fun Saturday evening, so if that’s “ruining my entire evening” I’ll take more of that!

Name us a better announcer in the big ten today. Fisch remains the best in the Big Ten and will be until he leaves.
Don is great at basketball. He’s not so great at football.

The play-by-play guy for Ohio State does both football and basketball and he’s really really good and I can’t stand that program.

In 1979, IU was playing Michigan at the Big House:

“In the final minute, IU scored and made the extra point to tie the game, the sleeve of Fischer’s sport coat catching on fire amidst the celebration as ash from his cigarette landed in a crease.”

I listen to radio at the games to cover up the in-stadium ads, which I equate to the constant robo-calls that make my phone an irritant.

I AM TIRED OF BEING MARKETED. LEAVE ME ALONE. OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD.

Anybody who knows football and makes the football the focus is ok by me for radio.

Buck and Don screw around too much, and lose focus, and sometimes don't know what is going on, because they joke with each other. The personality and friendship is the focus - not the football. They rely on “the way we’ve always done it.”

A radio guy should give the time, down and yardage on every play. He should call the game as if his listeners are blind. Someone else should keep the stats so they are available, but the play-by-play guy shouldn’t even need a pencil. It’s WORK, not play.

And yes, a sideline reporter would help a lot.

3:30 is the best.
Spreads out the ingress
Good tailgate time
Everyone can stay to the end
Can go home or go out, you still have a choice.
Yea, that gets me back home by 10:30 P.M. I left with 5 minutes to go in the 3 quarter Saturday and got home at 1:35 A.M. I will be selling my tickets for any other night game

Me either I just checked the DVR and everywhere but the upper corners looked full... That's pretty darn good for an FCS matchup (in my opinion)...
I saw it....47000+, although I don't have it handy.

I thought actual attendance was more like 43000-45000.

Whatever it was, it surprised me. I was expecting 37000 or so.

I to like the idea of a sideline reporter....some up and comer would be good, even a student that had his/her stuff together. Those guys are so damn high up in that press box...has to be a problem.

And I agree that Don & Buck screw around too much when a game is out-of-hand, in either direction. I think just giving the line-ups when we have all 2nd & 3rd stringers would be a good idea. Also, I know there used to be occasions where my kid would be playing ball, and I'd sneak over to see how the game was going, and it would take minutes before they'd mention the score.

I also agree with those who say Don's a better basketball announcer than football announcer.

But as to this particular game.......I give IU 70% of the blame for scheduling such a crappy opponent. I couldn't stand take it anymore and left at half-time, along with about 30000 other people. We shouldn't expect Don & Buck to act like anything serious is going on under those circumstances.

Northwestern’s Dave Eanet and OSU’s (Kiel? Keels?) are the gold standard in this league.

The Wisconsin duo that has been there for years is good. Haven’t heard them much since I moved south. Blackmon and Quinn for the Boilers are also good.

Gary Dolphin at Iowa is absolutely awful. Brandy and Dierdorf are way past due. Barnhardt for the Illini? He’s tolerable, but a bit over the top.

Don these days has lost his fastball, no doubt. Understandable since he’s in his 49th year on the call. I would think radio voice of the Hoosiers for football and basketball would be a pretty coveted assignment for whoever gets it soon. Just, please, stay away from any of the Syracuse-trained know it all’s who think they invented sports broadcasting.

That I-69 project has to be a union job. I’ve not seen a project move slower. It’ll be 2030 before that there’s a timely route from Indy to Bloomington
It would have been done 2-3 years ago if it had been a “union job”. It got delayed when the state decided to use a public-private partnership to do the segment between Bloomington and Martinsville and partnered with a company that had never done a job of that magnitude. They quickly got in over their head and couldn’t pay the contractors doing the work. They, understandably, quit working and no work was done for about a year until the state could clean up the mess.

Daniels had been out of office for a few years before the Btown to Martinsville section was ever started or planned. The Evansville to Bloomington section was paid mainly with major moves funds. Major move funds came when the Governor leased the toll road to the Spanish consortium. It also funded Indy to South Bend, widening I-465 from the northeast side to the airport and many bridges. Plus the new interchange in Greensburg that sealed the deal for the Honda plant.

Do all you guys melt after midnight or something here?
There is no surprise in all of this. Football games last 3 hrs 15 mins on average. That’s 11 pm as a leave the stadium time. Add a half hour to exiting the congestion.
Our fans say 12 pm is too early. 7:30 pm too late. 3:30 pm interferes with Judge Judy.
Other fan bases don’t complain whatsoever about start times. They plan and block out that section of their weekend. They know what to expect and there is no angst because it isn’t a surprise to them. Football in other communities is an event that is planned for. There is no clock to beat. No other thing that interferes with this block of time. Football in the South is something you devote time to.

Over the past many years we the fan base have been conditioned to a desire to get rid of somebody. Fisch and Suhr unfortunately are next.

Sometimes it's better to be likeable/amiable, than articulate. Fisch does a better job with basketball than football. IU is still lucky to have him.

... & for all he does, he's probably underpaid/underappreciated at that.

This post indicating that we need to get rid of Fisch and Suhr is one of the most outrageously ridiculous things I've read on this site in just over twenty years...

Could they do a better job? Sure, who couldn't...

Get them a sideline reporter, have an intern remind them to include down, distance and score more routinely while still remaining who they are and they're good to go for as long They want until They decide to go.

It's highly unlikely that we'll Ever again find a pair of broadcasters who love INDIANA Football as much as those two do... Don't try to rush their exit... We need them a Lot more than they need the us or the job...
