It took IU to show up there for the largest crowd ever.. IU fans travel well. Illwhini fans hate everything IU as much as PUke fans.

An Open Comment to the IU Board of Trustees.......

Please Please Please.... don't ever sell out to the corporations and their naming rights.

For as long as I remember it has always been Assembly Hall.... and to me.... it will always be "THE ASSEMBLY HALL"!!!!

If you demolish the current facility and build a whole new facility.... I am not against corporate naming for the new facility.

That's just my personal preference.

They already did

Assembly Hall will be named for the person that wrote the big check for the renovations. I can't remember how it is spelled.

Re: They already did

Yep, it will be renamed Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in 2016 when renovations are complete.

Well Crap!!!!! I hate that!!! If the donor family were really true...

basketball fans of IU.... they would have left the name.... Assembly Hall.

renovations or not.

that's just my opinion.

Are you aware of how the world works?

Practically every building on campus is named after someone. AH isn't a sacred burial ground...its a basketball arena. If you donate $40 million, I'd say you are a "true fan." Also, it's going to be called the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Just call it Assembly Hall. It's not a big deal.

They are true fans. That is why they ponied uo the money.

If that doesn't meet your definition of a true fan, that's too bad. It is what it is. We should be very pleased someone stepped up to help fix up that place. I was/am good for tearing it down, if - and that is a big IF - the vocal atmosphere, environment, or whatever it may be called, is retained. In other words, keeping it loud to disrupt and intimidate the other team.

Keeping it loud to...

disrupt and intimidate the other team is a product of when you see playing on the floor, not the building that houses the product you see on the floor. It also helps if the coach of what you see playing on the floor is himself intimidating and a genius of the game. If he is one arrogant, obnoxious bastard to boot, that's okay, too. We once had him.

You're questioning the "true fan" status of someone who donated 40 million?

If you don't like it donate 50 million to the program to take their name off.

OK.... I'll run down to the bank tomorrow to ponie up the $50 mil.

Can't do it today. :( They are closed on account of MLK day. :)

Re: An Open Comment to the IU Board of Trustees.......

Amen to that, Tscurlo...

I guess I didn't clearly state what I was thinking..... I was thinking

more in terms of:

State Farm Center
Bankers Life Fieldhouse
Lucas Oil Stadium
KFC YUM Center
Ford Center
Wells Fargo Arena
Taco Bell Arena
Value City Arena

Corporation sponsorships as opposed to family sponsorships.

If you.....

don't recognize the Simon name as also being, in-part, a large corporate entity, then you have some catching up to do understanding the background from which the monies come.
