Better "match up" story than the records suggest.

They are offense - we are defense.
SOME interesting differences:

Average Points Scored - 40.7 them vs. 30.1 us
Average Points Allowed - 40.3 them vs. 19.4 us
The most important advantage goes to us.

Average yards per rush - 4.6 them vs. 2.9 us - them by 1.7
Average yards per rush allowed - 5.4 vs. 4.0 - us by 1.4
Average rushing per game - 217.7 vs. 100.1 - them by 117.6
Average rushing allowed per game - 211.2 vs. 135.7 - us by 75.5
Rushing and stopping the rush - slight advantage to them, but we've faced this all season.

Average yards per pass- 10.7 vs. 7.3 - them by 3.4
Average yards per pass allowed - 8.5 vs. 6.8 - us by 1.7
Average yards per catch - 15 vs 12.7 - them by 2.3
Average yards per catch allowed - 12.3 vs. 12.0 - us by .3
Passing and defending the pass - slight advantage again to them.

Average yards per play - 7.1 vs. 5.2 - them by 1.9
Average yards per play allowed - 7.0 vs. 5.4 - us by 1.6
Average offense yards per game - 562.4 vs. 358.1 - them by 204.3!
Average offense yards per game allowed - 535.7 vs. 361.7 - us by 174!
Yardage advantage - slight to them.

3rd down percentage - 50% (64/127) them vs. 38% (37/98) us
3rd down % allowed - 47% (56/118) them vs. 37% (36/98) us
Them.

4th down % - 65% (20/31) them vs. 45% (5/11) us
4th down % allowed - 71% (10/14) them vs. 18% (2/11) us
Going 31 times is alot. We don't allow much success. Us.

Red zone scoring - 82% (42-56) them vs. 82% (27/33) us
Red zone scoring allowed - 87% (41/47) them vs. 58% (11/19)
Red zone TD's - 68% (38-56) them vs. 64% (21-33) us
Red zones TD's allowed - 70% (33/47) them vs. 47% (9/19) us
Advantage us.

They fired their DC after the season.
They had their top WR and TE opt out to go NFL after the season.
Their top remaining WR and top RB were hurt in the final game.
We have a huge chip on our shoulder.
We got time for Tuttle get baptised and to run a bunch of snaps before we play.

My pick today:

IU defense does its thing - holds Ole Miss under average with big plays.
The Tuttle Shuttle improves.
IU wins 33-27.

All these stats are very interesting. Thanks for posting them. Of course the problem is that none of them were against the same teams. How good was the SEC competition they faced vs. the Big 10 competition we faced? And as you mentioned with MP out and their issues the cast of characters have changed somewhat as well.

With all that said I agree that our defense will be the difference in a rather high scoring game. IU 45 MSU 35.

Correction - Ole Miss did not fire DC. “Agreed” to parts ways with DL coach. Defense was awful either way.
