Fan enthusiasm seems down this year…

3 in a row? I think we'll beat Lville and then lose, probably by double digits to Gonzaga, then, even if we lose a 2nd game, this early in the season, I don't see that dooming IU. They do have to make a decision on CMW this year I think by extending or not, but I think that decision is a long way down the road.
He'll have to totally screw the pooch with this squad to net get extended. All he has to do make the tornament and have an excuse for not winning the conference.

Currently down to Ville midway thru 1st half.

i might turn it off. maybe they can hit a bucket then.

after only 8 minutes, it's already obvious we're in trouble in this one.

need to start valuing the ball. i don't like our ability to come back v this team, esp when they're taking wide open 3s.
Not if gallo stays in the game. 6 on 4 is hard.

I watched 10 minutes of the opener a couple weeks back. Turned on with, I think, a 14 point lead. 5 straight IU turnovers later, game was nearly tied, or maybe was tied. Haven’t turned them back on since. Football has kept me so focused, even when hoops team playing, I’m reading about or watching highlights of football.

Hopefully this overpaid, under-coached squad can turn things around pronto.

Based on my metrics of gut feeling and activity on this forum, I'm sensing lower than usual enthusiasm this season. I'll lump myself into this group even though I stop by this forum every day and watch every game. I was actually pretty excited after seeing that we have what appear to be legit guards and Mbako looks to have improved since last season.

But, I think the X-factor is tuning into a game to see that nothing has really changed in regard to our style of play. Fortunately, we do have guards who are less shy to shoot 3s and Mbako is always ready to shoot. Then there's the lack of rebounding and deja vu from the past few seasons.

Does anyone else feel the same way? Is it the style of play and the assumed ceiling? Am I wrong that this forum seems kind of dead? Did users leave for other sites?
I feel the negative nancies drive people away... Simple

Compare offensive movement of Duke to our scheme. Passing and player movement is quick and efficient. We are slow, fundamentally unsound and inefficient.
and half time adjustments and most importantly, facial expressions. IU players never have the proper facial expressions. Duke players always have game faces on. They win on facial expressions alone.

Fans seem to emulate their coach and Woodson has no energy to coach or recruit. How can fans get revved up for that? What's happened with the guards MR,TG and KC?

I'm less enthused for a variety of reasons...

  • I was never a fan of the Woody hire, but I'm not going to root against my team in hopes that he gets fired
  • The segment of our fanbase that DOES root for us to lose is loud and obnoxious. The first sign of something they don't like, they're pissing and moaning. Here. Twitter. Wherever. Fukc 'em all. The negativity surrounding this program is exhausting and not fun and it's been that way since the mid-90's, with only a few years of reprieve. Even in conference winning seasons, the negativity has been high...recall the net-cutting drama after losing to Ohio State.
  • I'm a firm believer in a team, especially with a ton of new pieces, needing time to gel, no matter how talented they might be, so I'm happy to watch the season play out and see if we do have improvement from the sideline, from the players and in results. I don't need to define our season in November or before our first conference game. Again, fukc the people that need to yell from the rooftops in November about how bad we are.
  • I've frankly watched less CBB this year (not just IU) than I ever have before. I frankly think I'm becoming more and more disinterested in the sport at large, not just IU. I watched none of the Thanksgiving week tournaments (except the first half vs Louisville). None of the Champions Classic games. None of the SEC-ACC games.
  • I'm grateful for Cignetti and Moren (even though this isn't a pretty team to watch so far) to give me something to focus upon until I possibly get interested in the heart of conference season for MBB.

Unfortunately, will fall on deaf ears... The ones wearing the spectacles of disdain will never see anything positive... The collective consciousness needs to gel for Hoosier Basketball to move forward. The negative undertones affects recruiting and good hires... The track record speaks loudly to this. 😁

Yes. Woodson's glaringly bad recruiting and coaching is the fault of the fans.

Spectacles of disdain... Give me a break. You like mediocre with the occasional flash to above average. We get it. Your handle let's us know before you even post.

LOL. Spectacles of Disdain sounds like a 90s grunge band that never got signed to a record deal. The closest they got to stardom was a last minute opening gig for Veruca Salt.

"The collective consciousness needs to gel for Hoosier Basketball to move forward." Based on this line, I would guess the OP played bass for them and was the primary lyricist.

If we collect our consciousness collectively, we can overcome the disdain specs, help Woody get over the hump, and fight the Seether together.

Exactly.. no false sense of entitlement... Thank you!
Uh, you’re welcome! You didn’t say anything about being “entitled” in the post I replied to. If you want to add that, fine. Doesn’t change the fact that a program can be viewed negatively (as a complete joke, really) and then enjoy success with the right leadership.

Thank you!

Well there was more acceptance of reality in football expectations rather than relentless spewing of negativity towards coaches and players...
