I got a tweet from somebody in the know that said the recruits all left because IU doesn't have the fire alarms under control.
The warning signs are there. None of the preseason forecasts have IU doing much and now a former player is telling the fans to be patient.

If we finish 10th and this is a "developmental year" The IU crowd will troll you this year raining down boos leading to a Archie Firing within two years. I will bet you any amount of money you would like Archie does not make it past season 4 if we finish 10th or worse you game?
It’s more likely that he’s speaking to the much broader fan base that tends to vastly overrate the prospects of the team each year, only to be disappointed and disillusioned when reality hits and expectations were proved to be uninformed and much more a function of hearts rather than heads.

Well, to the degree that many people here, more than dozens if one is even remotely honest, tend to overestimate the prospects of the team, only to be left with disappointment when reality hits, yeah. I thought that was abundantly clear to just about everyone. Or it should’ve been.

That is the average projection by national publications. If we hit it or worse then this fan base will be lost.
Like I have predicted many times I think we will finish 5-6th in the big ten and get a 8 seed. However, I have been wrong before and will be again. If I am wrong and we suck again for the 4th year in a row Archie will be fired. I will hate that because that means we will be officially lost and forgotten as a basketball school. This is a very important year for IU basketball. We are on the verge of irrelevance.

I think you are overstating some things but oh par, I agree with the overall post.
The most accurate statement, IMO, is that this is a VERY important year for IU and for Archie's tenure at IU.

Well, at least you aren’t speaking in absolutes due to your emotional state. Lol.
The fan base won’t be lost if IU finishes in the bottom third of the conference. They’ll be disappointed and attendance will drop, but it won’t be lost. Archie might be viewed as a lost cause to many fans, but they aren’t going away, especially after 20+ years of mostly futility. As for relevance, IU has been mostly irrelevant as a basketball program since the late ‘90’s. Sure, there have been a few exceptions, but IU’s relevance has faded over the last 20-25 years. Archie will get at least two more years to fix things after this year.
