Enforcement of abortion pill bans

You said and some others…have you seen a list?
I don't think any of the states have made a list, just said that any pill that interferes with development of fertilized egg is outlawed. They probably don't want to make a list, since us chemists would come up with new designer drugs to get around the ones on a list, sticking a deuterium in place of a hydrogen, etc.

That happened with synthetic cannabis in Indiana. Every time they banned one a new formula would come out. I think they figured out some way to ban a class instead of specific compounds. I think that was in like 2013.

Thanks. Out of curiosity, who is going to foot the bill for these designer drugs?
If they just turn around and become illegal in said state.

profit drives everything

saw this and I had to chuckle, though in a sad way, since you can almost believe it:

That’s the thing…how is it profitable if it’s immediately outlawed in the same states?
It would still have to go thru the approval process…which is not cheap or quick.

I linked the article describing them, you dig it up if you think they are wrong.
Yeah it's a CNBC article. Figures. Garbage. MO is listed as a ban state but MO doesn't ban plan b or contraception. TX is at the moment of fertilization forward not prior

This discussion isn't about Plan B, or contraception... but about abortion inducing pills. I believe over half of all abortions are done using pills like being discussed.

We will see many states make it illegal for women to take medication that will result in an abortion. Presumably those laws would make it illegal to buy or sell the pills in that state. Probably to possess the pills too.

My question is, if this is your preference, how far are you willing to go for enforcement? Do we inspect all citizens mail? Will we track wowens online activity to see if she bought pills? What if the authorities receive a complaint that a woman was previously pregnant but isn’t now? What would that investigation look like? How much resources are we willing to commit? What would we cut to shift those resources?

Even those who are staunchly pro life have to concede that we could run up against some very concerning privacy issues. Are you willing to live in a surveillance state to prevent abortions via a pill?
Seems like a lot of that will devolve into prosecutorial discretion, no? So even in red states, you might have large city democratic counties elect prosecutors who run on a platform of using their discretion to not prosecute these cases.

Reality, in Ohio

Republicans are all about protecting children, just not that particular 10 year old child.

Pandora's box has been opened: get ready. The Supreme Court has basically said states can do whatever they want regarding abortion, so there are going to be 50 different ways of dealing with female's genitals.

The question of enforcement? Abortion was criminalized in 1973, so I'm guessing the conservatives want increased taxpayer money for prosecutions, law enforcements, and juries. Whether prosecutors, law enforcement, or juries won't give a shit and focus on other things? There will probably be a lot of that. The Marion County Prosecutor came out and said he won't be prosecuting doctors or women regarding abortion in accordance with prior SCOTUS precedent.

Perhaps a Big Brother box/monitor for women's genitals will be the next step.

I have a feeling there is going to be a big "be careful what you wish for" experience for the conservatives. Most Americans are in the middle and just want to draw a line in the middle of the sand.

All ya gun haters who don't know the first thing about guns, that never had a gun, never shot a gun... y'all have no clue about guns and no way you ought to be makin' laws banning them. But them there uteruses. Dem vajayjays on chicks. We gotta make some laws about it cause we in charge.

I know this is meant to be humorous, and it got a chuckle out of me. But, this is just one example of how crazy things are going to get and how conservatives and hardcore pro-lifers are going to get a negative image from their agenda/crusade. Texas has literally permitted and encouraged its citizens to tell on each other: this is straight out of 1984 and communist Russia (and Nazis?). Beyond the totalitarian nature of this, why should people do law enforcement's and prosecutor's work for them for free? Just nuts.

They wont even let Kavanaugh have a steak at Morton's! Come to my house with a gun fine, but if you interrupt me eating a bone-in ribeye with some Lobster ravioli you should be hung up in the town square.

Poor Kavanaugh was probably three old fashions deep when some blue haired freaks come in and interrupt his meal. Animals, every last one of them.

I don’t think he has that right in the constitution does he?

Is it really for free?

Isn't the Texas abortion statute the one that now authorizes anybody anywhere to bring a lawsuit against all participants and abetters if they think they know of an abortion illegal under Texas law? Sounds to me like a moneymaking opportunity.

I like the following passage in a recent oped piece:

"I agree with the (steakhouse) rep that there is a time and place for protest, and when the issue at hand is the dehumanizing denial of half the population’s bodily autonomy, the time and place to protest that is all the time and everywhere. Also, there is no “right to congregate and eat dinner”. Maybe the rep is referring to the right to privacy in a manner not explicitly stated in the Constitution, which, as a reminder, was the foundation for Roe v Wade, which Kavanaugh and his fellow conservative justices just overturned."

I agree with Zekes and Stuff that assassination attempts and public harassment (as long as it’s legal) of SCOTUS justices for decisions you disagree with is a healthy path for the country.

Kind of like what has happened to abortion doctors (actual murder) and females at abortion clinics?

Put me on record as not supporting either.

You guys and your third grade level tit for tats.

Is society really this dumb?
Pandora's box has been opened, and society is going to be nutty for abortion for the foreseeable future. I already miss the days where the lid was on this issue as much as it could be.

There you go again. No one said anything about assassination attempts. But am I sad about a guy who is taking away women’s rights having some blowback at dinner? Sorry can’t get too worked up about that.

Well, I never said that, so it's not surprising you said what you said (you are a very good you).

That's all you are.

And the "Day After" pill isn't even an abortion pill. There are abortion pills, but RU-486 is contraception. Supreme Court loons will be after that soon.
