    January 31, 2020.

On or about January 24, 2020 the CDC first reported two cases of coronavirus on US brought by travelers from Wuhan China. On January 30, WHO declared a world health emergency due to Coronavirus. On January 31, 2020, Trump issued the proclamation banning, with exceptions, travel from China.

First case in the US was reported on 1/19/2020 in Wa St. At the briefing where we limited travel 2/2/2020, it was stated that it was already in 20 countries, and the US.

Most Airlines eliminated travel from China before Trump placed Ban. Most his actions/comments thru early March indicated he did not take this seriously. Where are tests, masks, gowns, ventilators that have been promised? What happened to the “anyone who wants a test can get one”. Third largest County in Fl reports they have ZERO tests!
Sorry, I don’t call any of that as taking it serious

Banning travel from China was the right move. However he followed that up by doing nothing and downplaying the issue.

Don’t agree. He appointed the task force at the same time. Fauci said Trump followed the task force recommendations without exception.

You have a point with some of the statements Trump made, but his history of broad generalizations and bragging are not actions and they are not policy.

Oh really? So what you are saying is that basically nothing Trump says should be taken seriously. Seems like a fairly disqualifying quality for the most powerful position in the world. Here’s a helpful and up to date chronology of Trump’s lies:

do you know any of his policy agendas, or is this just based on how he does on tv explaining NY's virus situation.

unfortunately, the later has waaay to big a place in our elections.

Trump's communication skills aren't his problem here, it's his actions and lack of.

Travel from China WAS NOT BANNED. Americans were free to come on go to China, according to the policy.

Actions speak louder than words. Those who don't agree with that well known axiom are, in my view, shallow thinkers.

There was a travel ban. Those who were banned would agree with me. You are correct there were several exceptions to the ban, one of which was keeping families intact. Unless you are now in favor of family separation, I think you would agree with that and other exceptions.

You should read the linked article. Actually, since you are a conservative and all, you should be reading the Bulwark regularly. It has actual conservatives contributing.

So are not going to address my question? You and hoos want to talk about Trump, but neither can tell me if anyone asked the NY leadership why didn't they shut down mass transit weeks ago? Can we stick to the topic?

I cannot tell you if anyone asked the NY leadership why they didn't shut down the mass transit weeks ago because I am not in nor do I watch every NY coronavirus press conference. That said, I trust the experts to manage systems such as these. Have Dr. Fauci or Dr. Birx questioned why NY didn't shut down mass transit systems?

And by sticking to the topic, you mean stick to what you'd like to hijack the thread to be about?

Hijack? I thought thread was about Cuomo and his potential presidency because how great he has been handling the pandemic? Was that not the crux of the thread?

I just asked if the mass transit issue was ever addressed. Is that not a legit question?

You diverted the thread to a Trump thing. You hijacked it, not me. But thanks for letting me know you don't know the answer.

Found my answer. It shut down Tuesday. But not because of CV-19, but because of lack of riders. So, I wish someone would ask him why it was not shut down a week or 2 ago. Maybe there is a very good reason. I would like to know.

From my perspective, that would have slowed the spread tremendously.

There really wasn't. There were new entry restrictions for foreign nationals. That's pretty much it. In no way was travel "from China" banned whatsoever, with or without restrictions.

Cuomo said this AM in his presser that NY had enough PPE. Nurses, Drs and MSNBC spent the day calling him a liar.

Before I posted, I read the order. Trump ordered a suspension, which is tantamount to a ban, and then identified the several exceptions.

Ok, as I asked before, why not shut it down except for essential personnel? Why expose the critical care healthcare workers to thousands of potential CV carriers?

You're a lawyer. Trump didn't suspend travel from anywhere. He suspended entry for foreign nationals who had been in China during the two prior weeks. With, of course, the exceptions you already noted, exceptions which probably undermined the entire purpose of the entry restriction.

You lost me. How is suspending entry for any foreign national who had been in China w/i 14 days different from suspending travel from China?

You're a lawyer, you know how it's different. You don't need me for that.

Is the difference important? Beats me. But you two were arguing over this point, for whatever reason, and you were wrong.

I was listening to NPR this afternoon and the Medical Director from Ryker's Island was talking about the number of minor and technical parole violators they we holding and expressing his desire that they be released. The press should ask that question also.

So why on February 28 did Trump compare the virus to the common flu and say the Democrats were making the virus their new hoax? That doesn’t appear he’s taking it too seriously.

Guess Cuomo and DeBlasio didn't either as they allowed thousands to ride on subways until this past Tuesday. How many people will die because of the delay in shutting down mass transit?

And De Blasio was rightly taken to task for his response, including his beyond stupid trip to the Y.

Are you really telling me that you read the Bulwark timeline and don’t think Trump royally mucked this up?

I'm saying what Fauci said. Trump followed each of his and the taskforce's recommendations and Trump never did anything that Fauci and the taskforce said he shouldn't do.
