Good!Looks like woody read your reply. All the guys can’t play, just announced.

The stache goes splash!
Without the IU players this will not be such a high level environment and with them they were at risk from playing with some now weekend warriors. There is a reason that almost all teams don't allow this sort of thing. Competing in high level environments is for sure a huge risk of injury. A bit different than horse at the local boys and girls club.
That is my take as well, but like everyone else here...I won't know until it happens. Not far off from the "randos" someone mentioned. If this league is anything like other "Pro" Am leagues...it'll go like this...
Each team will have like 1 designated "pro" on their team. Those guys will rarely, if ever, actually show up and play in these games. They're listed on the rosters to draw interest, and get fans to come watch in hopes of catching Gary Harris and/or Kyle Guy battling it out. And when they do show up, they'll play limited minutes, and probably only do so if there's a matchup against another decent Pro or something.
The IU kids would end up being the main attractions. And most of the games would have a couple IU kids, and then 7-8 low major/D2/D3/NAIA kids running around.
It sounds fun for the fans, but the IU kids won't get a ton out of a league like this. Woody knows that.
This isn't like the Drew League or anything. And heck, even the Drew League is mostly like I laid out above.
No weekend warriors. You have to be a pro, college or HS going to college (Colvin is still playing AFAIK) and get an invite. The original rosters have kids currently at Butler, Earlham, Purdue, IU, Marian, Ball State, Wabash, IUPUI, Georgia State, and Nicholls State. Like I said above, each of the 3 teams that had an IU player on them had between 4 & 6 pro players on the roster.Without the IU players this will not be such a high level environment and with them they were at risk from playing with some now weekend warriors.
Despite what I’ve written I hope it turns into something big. An “Indiana Drew League” would be very awesome!!No weekend warriors. Oh, I agree. It would be awesome. I'm going to try to go watch tonight.Despite what I’ve written I hope it turns into something big. An “Indiana Drew League” would be very awesome!!
This is exactly how it will go down. There's little to no structure. This isn't a teaching game or anything of that nature. It's 7-8 guys subbing in and out and running up and down the court. It's eg-centric, and while it would be cool for someone like Anthony Leal or Xavier Johnson to say they guarded Gary Harris one on one, it's not going to bolster their game or technique. If this league is anything like other "Pro" Am leagues...it'll go like this...

The rosters listed I believe had a majority of pros on most. NBA players? 1 or 2 but most of the guys listed were foreign pros. They may feel more pressure to show up now that the IU kids are out. I didn't look closely at the rosters. I'd still be surprised if many actual pros show up regularly though.
I played every week in the Iowa City Pro Am league my first year out of college. And I wasn't on a roster. I was just one of the guys on their "call list" to fill in for Pros and Iowa players that rarely showed up. And that was a big, well known, established league at the time.
I had a great time though! Had about 20 one game, playing against Pierre Pierce, and talked to Alford for about 5 minutes after the game about playing against Manchester a couple years after he left there.

There are a lot of great names on the rosters...even minus the IU kids. I hope they all do show up, and that its well run, and the games are serious and competitive. An Indianapolis league with largely former Indiana HS players, at various levels, could be really, really cool. The rosters listed I believe had a majority of pros on most. I see no reason why that opportunity for Miller Kopp and Xavier Johnson wouldn't exist next year in the event they are still interested playing in it. They can enjoy it as much as they'd like once they are no longer members of Indiana's men's basketball team.Too bad they can't do it just for fun.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not wanting to argue or be a dick, but to me it's sad that these kids have to always approach the game as serious business, all the time.I see no reason why that opportunity for Miller Kopp and Xavier Johnson wouldn't exist next year in the event they are still interested playing in it. Xavier Johnson's health is a lot more important than it is to a meaningless pro-am game.Don't get me wrong, I'm not wanting to argue or be a dick, but to me it's sad that these kids have to always approach the game as serious business, all the time.
Huh? Not sure why you’d say that? You strike me as the type of poster who would be crucifying XJ, or Woody for that matter, in the event he got hurt in one of these meaningless type games.

Chilly? Who is that?Chilly was out there cookin. He is gonna get some PT this year at end of games, and the fans are gonna go nuts. He actually has some game.
Nathan Childress. One of our walk-ons.Chilly? Who is that?
Ah. Too early. Should have picked up on that.Nathan Childress. One of our walk-ons.
Chilly had 17 last night!!!Nathan Childress. One of our walk-ons.
I think that's far less likely in a game like this than just regular pickup games. If all/most of these guys are pros or college or good HS players they all have a lot at stake and should be less than likely to injure others because of it. IMO, far more likely to happen in general pickup games, and despite what many say here, I believe these guys are playing pickup games somewhere. If they can control who are in those games and provide that opportunity almost daily at Cook Hall; great, but it's still unlikely they'll get the level of comp shown on these rosters. According to what Kyle Guy says, there are coaches and NBA refs. Many here have more experience with pro am leagues than I do and that sounds like a lot of support, but he's doing the league and I'll take someone at their word until they give me a reason not to.All it takes is for one guy to take out an IU player for the season or end his career with a bad judgement play or a deliberate cheap shot while they are in the air. Thanks but no thanks, IU players don’t need pickup games where “ head cutting” takes place trying to one up a B1G player Rucker Park style. No thanks! Good judgement to keep the players practicing in-house.
They won NCs as you say, so the only way they could top that as IU is being a Hoosier Hero for life.well, it's hard to fault a Guy, May or Montross, because they won NCs and had great careers and first round draft choices. I'd have loved to have had them in Cream and Crimson too, but it's probably disingenous to say they'd have done better at IU.
Askin the wrong guyWhen is the next game and on what network?
Sounds like a selling point to you (and me!). I've seen first hand the love that UVA has for Guy and that UNC has for Montross and Sean. Would they be more well-known and beloved in IN? Probably by more of the general population, but that can also be a negative. Both those schools, UNC especially, have good bball tradition and following, so they're not hurting in that department and all have won NC's more recently than have we. I think all 3 would tell you they made the best decision for them and don't regret it one bit. I'm confident the only remorse (and discussions of them at IU) are from us. Hope this team gives us something to push those thoughts out of our minds! They won NCs as you say, so the only way they could top that as IU is being a Hoosier Hero for life.
From what I heard early, the IU players were not allowed to play
Apparently it didn't apply to the walk ons. LOLFrom what I heard early, they are you players were not allowed to play
That seems like a big slap in the face: "we're not allowing IU players to play... but you go ahead Nate!"Apparently it didn't apply to the walk ons. LOL
Somebody posted he had 17pts Tuesday night.
Maybe he'll play his way into the rotation via Dizzy Runs. That seems like a big slap in the face: "we're not allowing IU players to play... but you go ahead Nate!"
We want to snub a guy who decided to play for a better coach and won a Natty? That seems a bit harshKyle Guy snubbed IU so glad our kids are not there turning his event into a big deal.
Nate won't have the same target on his back. That seems like a big slap in the face: "we're not allowing IU players to play... but you go ahead Nate!"
you have a weird persecution complex. Not everyone is out to get you, or IU players. I still maintain they are much safer in that environment playing with pros and other college players who have a lot on the line too, than you or I in a pickup game somewhere. Guy said they are having NBA refs. Could they get hurt, sure, but no more likely there than any other games or workouts they'll be doing this summer.Nate won't have the same target on his back.
