I graduated from IU in '97. We had season tickets when I was growing up. I have a family and live 3 hours away. We usually go to 1-2 games a year. To be honest it is kind of an expensive trip for us. I went down Saturday with some friends. Anyone who follows IU football would know this was a big game for IU. I just could not believe the number of apathetic fans. I saw a bunch of people leave at halftime. Some more left right after half and still more consistently throughout the second half. Many of those around us refused to cheer. I just don't understand why you bother to show up if you act as though it is a chore to be there. I do wonder how many of these people actually paid for their tickets. After the loss was complete, "I heard a father tell his son, "you can say you were here to witness this." He refused to cheer the team on as things got bleak.

I choose to believe the Hoosiers will finish this season strong. Hope is all I've got.

Fans...IU's other curse. I've never understood how a school as big as ours, in the B10, has only rarely filled the stadium, and too many of those full houses depended on the opponents fans to buy up the tickets. OSU calls us Columus West, not because they win most of the time, but because they usually have available a third or more tickets for the short drive. I've been there toooo many times where the O-H-I-O chant shouts down the home team. Make you sick.

My wife and I have season tickets and sit in a section of mainly IU fans. The ohio state game a loyal IU ticket holder sold their tickets to 4 osu fans who shreaked at us the whole game about how sad we must be, how it was good for us to be sad to get balancein our lives and how every game for osu is a home game. Really a fun experience! This weeks game was as pathetic as we have seen though.
The rest of our tickets are for sale. We have had it.

we have great seats

I need four more good ones. Post your email.

I have to be honest, when I heard it was IU homecoming, I thought that the place would be rocking. When I turned the game on and saw the stands I was shocked at the crowd size. I Guess BBall is where it's at in Indiana. Good luck the rest of the way.

Rutgers visitor here.
Very impressed by your campus on Saturday. We parked up by the Catholic Church on the hill and tailgated there.
Like at RU Homecomings , many people stayed out in the Parking Lots for tailgating and did not come into the stadium .

I wish it were just as simple as were just a BB school but I don't think it is. Indiana is not a FB state. The limited instate talent divided between three D-1 schools and a couple of lessor colleges like ISU and Evansville, just drain it away, ND getting the lions share of the best, or UM just north of our border, OSU just west of our border, Ul & UK to the south, even Illinois and Iowa to the west take their share. We are trapped with no way out. We may never make it up.

Evansville hasn't had football in over 15 years

OMG! When they changed over to USI Evansville they gave up FB? WOW I am getting old. My brother-in-law played LB for the Aces in the early seventies. Funny world. Thx for correction.
I believe The University of Southern Indiana (USI), which was previously known as Indiana State University-Evansville, is in no way related to the University of Evansville. Neither school presently has a football program, and USI / ISU-E never did.

University of Evansville and USI are different school. UE did have football until late 90s

Very sorry about confusion, guys. My wife straightened me out. Evansville now has two universities, one of them old UE. Two neices just graduated a few years back from their world renowned drama department. Caught many a play and concert there...long ago. Roberts Stadium used to host great shows. Etown isn't mentioned much above the river area. Always known as Kentuckiana...vbg...but not a bad city, just depressed. No breweries or Whirlpool no work except Toyoda. Football used to be a big deal there. How times have changed.

I bought 4 tickets. Took my family. Had a great time. I left at halftime. Didn't return. The crowd was fine. The problem is that the defense is a momentum killer. Hard to maintain excitement when the opposing team marches down the field with little resistance. That Rutgers TD at the end of the half was way too easy. I won't get into the 4Q.

This team is performing well below expectations from my standpoint. Maybe I expected too much?

We deserve better as fans. Not the other way around.

Nothing was determined at halftime. Why go to the expense and waste of time for only the first half?

We had friends in town tailgating and went out to see them. And I was a bit frustrated with this team, truthfully. Happy to support IU football by buying tix.

Can't agree more. Ponied up close to $3k for the trip with family, and the atmosphere in the 2nd half was dead.

Pre-game.....fun tailgates and all, party lots were great.....but even then, 2 hours before kickoff there are spots right out front in the main lot....empty. We've got to be the only 4-2 BCS school that sees that kind of apathy.

I hadn't been up since the Bucket game 2010....did the N Texas and Navy away games instead....but it was shocking how dead that place was after we got up big.

I feel sorry for the guys on the field, usually. Yeah, we lost...but that crowd was cut into 1/4 by the time the fate was decided. Just lame scene altogether.

I was one of the 10k or so that trudged out of there in shock after the final gun.

Your story can be plugged in every year back to when Mallory began 0-11. Even in our best seasons under him a full house was rare, and a crowd after halftime always significantly reduced. People didn't even want the passes they tried to hand out every game...win or lose!!!??? I've been snarked a few more self righteous fans who have never seen the apathy up close. Remember when walking from Kirkwood, down Indiana, where every house had a game party going?? It started getting exciting Friday night! Now, its like a morgue with only a few heavy drinking parties going and few banners. Glad I attended IU while some still knew how to enjoy a B10 home game. I'd take the "loyal 44k" back anytime! Trouble is, 25 yrs later, half of them are dead! I'm next!! And yet I'd do it all over again. IU is my alma mater...forever, win or lose.

See this is what I don't understand why take the time and money to go to the game and leave at halftime. It couldn't be cause of the game time which some says is a problem but this game started at 3;30 and it was descent weather.

I don't understand it either. If I lived back home (Chicago suburb) I'd go to every home game. It's 266 miles town to town. I live in Colorado and have IU football season tickets that I give to my old roommates to use. I just want to support the team. I have University of Colorado (got my MBA there) season tickets and go to every home game (500 mile round trip) and at least one road game every year (this year have gone to road games at ASU and Hawaii). It really bothers me that IU football can't get apathetic alumni to the games. One reason is that some of our alumni support Notre Dame in football - which to me is total BS. Sure like them if you want, tape their games if you must but if you are anywhere near Bloomington and call yourself a fan your butt should be in the stadium on game day (finances permitting of course).

There are at least 3 breweries in Evansville. Turoni's, Tin Man, and Carson's. Turoni's has been operating since at least the mid-1960's.

Roberts Stadium was great.

Hey Coloradan! I'm over near Harsel, in Park County about 60 miles west of Colorado Springs, 30 miles from Fairplay. Where are you?
