Ben Roberts of the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader reports Derby Festival Classic organizers have decided to cancel the event for this year, citing declining attendance and increasing financial loss.
The Louisville-based event held at Freedom Hall usually featured at least one Indiana signee in years past. Freshmen Justin Smith and Al Durham Jr. participated in the event last year, while sophomore forward De'Ron Davis and former IU guard Curtis Jones participated in 2016. Thomas Bryant, OG Anunoby and Juwan Morgan participated in 2015.
