Defense Production Act

Why in the world would Biden use the Defense Production Act on Solar Panels? Besides they're being manufactured in Chyna.
He wants to triple manufacturing by 2024. All sorts of solar manufacturing. I wonder what he bases this on. The guy has ZERO business experience. I wonder if he's putting the cart before the horse. Are their customers for all the solar stuff or will it just be one subsidy/tax credit after another. Something he promised progressives so he's doing. As for residential I don't know a single person that has it, and many could certainly afford it. Big old houses. 3 stories. Inefficient as hell. I never see solar panels. They are an eyesore. Why would you want that on your house.

Most solar panels I assume would be for solar farms.

I don't think they look all the bad. However I also do not think they inexpensive anymore. I believe all the subsidies and tax credits have dried up. Could be wrong. I'd go solar and EV tomorrow if it was an affordable buy-in.

Their are some companies(Elon and others) developing solar panels that look virtually identical to roof shingles and tiles. Would be big for those whose major hang-up is esthetics.

Biden also wants to flood the market with car chargers that will probably be little used and outdated technology wise by the time there is a big demand for them. IMO, Gas stations will be more than happy to add Car charging stations when they can make money on it. Gas stations along the Interstates continue to pop up.

I probably need a new roof in the next 3-5 years. Holding out for a hail storm. I think it best to wait until I get that new roof. I was told that it would $6000 to remove and re-install panels if the roof was in need of being replaced with new shingles.

Maybe go with solar shingles if the cost becomes more reasonable in 3-5 yrs.. As time goes on maybe they become more efficient and the price comes down as the solar shingle technology matures.

Pros and Cons of Solar Shingles

Here is a rundown of the advantages and disadvantages of solar shingles for your home:

Pros

  • Shingles have a sleeker, more attractive aesthetic. They integrate well with concrete and asphalt roofs in particular.
  • They are weather-resistant and durable.
  • They are easier to maintain than solar panels.
  • They are cost-effective if you are building a new roof

Cons

  • While solar panels have been around for quite a while, solar shingles are young by comparison. Therefore, not every solar manufacturer offers them.
  • The technology is still evolving as well. Not all existing roofs are conducive to solar shingle installation—you might have to rebuild the entire roof.
  • They are more expensive than solar panels.
  • They are currently limited in style and colors, though brands like Tesla are introducing new options.

Put standing seam metal on if you are putting solar panels over it. You will never need another roof

The amount of money getting thrown at solar right now is similar to what I saw in the oil and gas boom in 2010-12ish.

land grabs are going on all over the country. How many projects actually get built? No idea.

I have negotiated over 20k acres in the last few years in Indiana KY alone. None of those are close to being built, and two have been shut down by counties because Lucy’s brother lived next door and bitched solar would cause cancer.

You gave my post, taking crop ground out of production a laughing emoji. what's so funny about it? Isn't it a true statement?

How is it not a concern (lame)? There is a given qty of it, so if any of it is removed from usage, how is it lame? I don't understand.
There is a limited quantity, but they get better at harvesting per acre every year with technology. They are also spending millions right now at PU to figure out ways of harvesting crop under the panels. They are doing that on the West coast now already. They will be growing something under the panels in 5 years when these all get built.

Who removes the panels when the company goes bankrupt?

they are almost straight up and down in the morning and evening, they rotate with the sun. Just a bit of sun even in very cold temps is enough to make it melt and slide off.

What about panel removal?

bond is required for decomissioning before construction takes place. But I promise you all those panels are worth a lot more if you go take them down yourself and sell them on the black market.

I always wondered if there was a way to use just a small portion of the energy collected to project downward to grow plants below the panels. Sort of a grow light concept. Don’t laugh.

The panels they have now collect sun light that bounces off the ground (panels on the top and bottom of the rack). They will be growing crops under the panels for sure. Technology is getting really good on this stuff.

Wanna know how petty I am? So there was this one guy that led the charge of no solar and slandering me in an Indiana county. They started a Facebook group, bought billboards, hundreds of yard signs, shirts, decals.... crazy shit. He also went to all county meetings, whether it was a BZA, county commish, you name it he was there.

Well this nut job didn't even live right next to the area I was leasing, was a few miles away. He had a theory that I knew where the well systems were in the county and I was purposely avoiding certain areas, because I knew it would leach toxins into the drinking water and didn't want to get sued.

Well Donny Dipshit lived in one of those areas that he was certain I was avoiding. I went to his neighbor and convinced my company at the time to pay almost double to get the deal done to sign him up. I then was the witness signature on the recorded memorandum at the courthouse. I send him a framed picture of that signature page every Xmas.

How do they get under them to till, plant, spray and harvest? Little Tikes John Deere's?
