Dawkins Rumors - Why?

I'd be OK with that ... but I haven't read or heard or seen anything to make me think that is correct.

He has SAID he wants explosive plays at QB, RB and WR.
I know that's what we all think he said. But in reality, he meant the opposite...like in...you know...opposite land. Makes sense...said no one...never...vbg.

At this point in the season...#2...#3...sound like spitting hairs to me. Performance would dictate...both would have played for the staff to get a look at them under fire. Its a shame. But whatever the kid wants...its his life.

He took away valuable reps from the other two and his arrival caused are number three to transfer to Florida Atlantic.
Excellent concept! I love examining the world through the lens of physics and the conservation of energy. His leaving really does diminish the team any way you turn it by the loss of the energy put in to getting him ready to play. From the training room, food tables, coaching focus, on and on. Any time a player like this is lost, there is a quantifiable amount of team "energy" lost with it.
Take that Sheldon...vbg

It's a good strategy if you are Bama. Didn't work so well for us several games last year.

Yeah - Bama can play almost anyway they want.

I think we can win shootouts with equal and lesser teams ... but I don't think we won any with the Big 3 - even with Wilson.

Ball control
No turnovers
Balance between running/passing
That's the play with Ramsey

Once Penix is ready, maybe open it up a little - he seems to have a bigger arm

Taylor is a scamper guy - a smaller ARE.

Having 3 QB's with different skill sets wears me out.

I made the comment earlier, but I think it’s very plausible that he left because he was #3, not because he was #2. And reading between the lines of some of the reports from coaches, that seems like it was the case
This is a guy who was starting and winning for Rich Rod at a P5 school not long ago. If he dropped to 3 here, Ramsey and Penix must've had an effing awesome fall camp. I pray they remain injury-free for the next three months or we are in deep feces.

The last 5 years, No. 2 has been certain to play.
Cam Cameron started due to injury.
Diamont started due to injury.
Lagow got the job back due to injury.

"I want it NOW" is an unwise strategy around here.

This is also a kid who just left his second school because he was beaten out. Taylor will now be #3 , and I’m fine with that mostly because he has an unselfish attitude of “anything for the team”. Love that kid already, we need all hands on the “team” deck.

Really didn’t want to be correct on this, but I think this says a lot more about Dawkins than it does IU. Look back at some of his interviews, “I know I won’t be handed anything, I’m just here to do anything I can to help the team” yea right.
I was told last Thursday he cleaned out his room, he wasn’t present at the scrimmage/walk through Friday and it became official yesterday. Obviously this hurts depth, but Ramsey had a great camp and Penix is the real deal just needs experience. Hopefully we don’t have a Maryland-like run of QB injuries.

Addition by subtraction in this case.

He wanted something handed to him and didn't get it.

I see his leaving as a positive. Better that he let the Team down now then when they were counting on him to execute against MI...

I still cant believe how quickly that season and our stable of good QBs quickly went south. People still say Wilson couldn't recruit QBs...hell, we had too many then! Then boom baby...and your playing a guy so deep on the charts when he walked on the field fans went...whaaaat??

I think that was the beginning of the end for Wilson...attitudes changed.

I have no idea what this means...he led us to bowl games the next two years. Are you saying the players' attitudes changed?

It's looking more and more like Allen doesn't think he needs an explosive offense. Control the ball and try to win by 3.
Seriously, that is just a pot shot and that's it. Allen doesn't want to win big? Please. What about likelihood Dawkins didn't have the will to stick it out and maybe got beat out in a fair camp battle?

Got to simply move forward!

I’m with you Johnsy. I had heard it was coming. The thing is that he was not guaranteed anything. Maybe he misread things thinking that they wouldn’t bring in a grad transfer if there wasn’t a 99.9999% chance he starts.
However, that said, he had basically dropped to #3 on the depth chart. The staff was more impressed with Penix and his command of the offense than Dawkins.
Fumbled snaps and missing open throws in practice will get you there.

I think that the staff now shifts more focus on getting Reese Taylor into increased offensive reps with the picture clear at depth in the QB position. He’s not going to be slotted for defense.

And, Penix redshirt will not happen. He’s going to play more than 4 games. That just became clear.

From July 6....this became a bit prophetic:

Per his own taped interview a couple of weeks ago he came into camp out of shape (said he was "gassed" and throwing up at times)...

If he didn't realize how hard he was going to have to work throughout the summer to put himself in a position to compete for and win a starting quarterback position on a Big Ten football team then he simply wasn't mentally ready to play that position for us.

In my opinion, if this (quitting) is his response to adversity then we're better off without him.

Not at all what I said, or at least what i meant. If the guy was an out of shape baby then good riddance. I'm just saying he wants a more ball control offense and that's fine as long as you score more points than the D gives up. A lot of explosive offenses out there.

Not any players I know of...but just about everyone did...look where we ended up.

Dawkins has to be wise enough to realize that he will get his chance. The problem with being young, though, is you rarely have the wisdom to correctly understand that.
He would get a chance unless he was #3. Who knows. He wasted a lot of time and effort. I guess he can just wait for the draft.

So is he still in school? I don't want him hanging around and stirring up crap. The only people he knows on campus are the players.

I can help him pack.
