If he did come back next year, how much does he lose taking the year of competition off? The only time I have seen his name mentioned is on this forum and a link to his twitter account. I don't follow players on twitter but after using the link provided I found his latests tweets somewhat interesting. He could also just be playing with everyone's mind.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that option. I would probably lean toward the walk on option for at least a year to see what he does.

Don't believe he was "suspended", think it was termed that he was leaving the program (made it sound like it was on his own accord or mutual, but the issue was private) It was announced at the time that IU would be open to his return in the future.
