Dakich recent statements?

My boss (an IL grad/fan) told me the other day that Dakich had said there was a kerfuffle between Green & Smith either during or after the OSU game.

He now just told me that Dakich says RMK is going to be at the Purdue game (but that he, Dakich, won't be there).

Since I don't listen to Dakich and haven't seen anything posted here, can someone fill me in on this? Boss has no reason to make stuff up, but I wonder if I'm getting the whole story. Boss just catches bits and pieces while going to lunch and back.

Dakich brings up an incident (naming no names) Fischer doesn't correct him or say otherwise and adds Miller's hands are tied or something like that.

I think the rumor mill just assumes it's Smith and Green. You can always listen to the podcast from that day but there's not much there.

There’s very likely a reason Fischer doesn’t “correct him or say otherwise”, since there’s probably a lot of truth to it. Fischer and Dakich are friends have have a great deal of respect for one another, by the way.

It only matters if it is there is a common person to many incidents. Elston confirmed there were issues between Green and Romeo last year. My son spent a lot of time with Elston when he was in town for a tournament his bank was sponsoring. I don't know details except he indicated Green was the one with the problem.

Green was suspended once. We assumed it was for drugs, but there wasn't any confirmation. Could it have been for a fight or bad behavior?

I don't have a problem if the incident was a matter of a player calling out another for effort or not doing what they are supposed to do. I can only think of a small number of players that have played well enough to be qualified to do that. Green isn't one of those

Dakich has zero credibility with respect to IU basketball. He burned that bridge slowly but surely over the past five years. He is bitter as hell.

More than five years. For a decade I have referred to him as Dorkich. He still thinks that he should have been IU's head B-ball coach. Not a chance.

So....at what point did you become more credible? Was it post 10K or 15k? Maybe you should call in to his show and inform him of the proper protocol for basketball credibility?

I didn't catch that the first time .. ie the naming of names but I hated listening to Dakich speak so it was a fairly quick scan. .

As much deserved shit as DD takes for running his mouth and stirring the pot, I can't help but think we may have been somewhat better off if we had just hired him. Sure he probably would have fizzled out and been fired but at least we would have maintained some semblance of what IU basketball was built upon.

I didn't mind the Sampson hire and still think he's a great basketball mind. However, his minor infractions and our subsequent overreaction set off a catastrophic chain of events. At worst, with DD we would have lost games we should have won, played hard, and moved on from him with our program fairly intact. Clappy prob wouldn't have ever been here.

I think we should just bring Sampson back, I bet he'd come. it's really ridiculous to me that some on here claim he ruined our program by the equivalent of spitting on the side walk, DD and Crean ruined the program

The phone calls were minor but illegal and a repeat offender. My primary issue with Sampson was that the character and academic aspects of the kids he brought in were inconsistent with IU standards and expectations.

Of course, he probably twigged onto the fact that the players were not going to class, allegedly smoking grass, etc. But we do not know if he was doing anything about it. We don't know what his charge with the Athletic Department was relative to Sampson and Senderhoff and the investigation, the NCAA compliance, and dealing with issues. We do not know.

I do not listen to Dakich because he will say anything to get attention. I also am of the opinion that he would not have been a good fit at any college as head coach. He over-patronized everyone. You think RMK was controlling...well Dakich superseded RMK in that area. Dakich left Bowling Green State U. because of his inability to recruit.

He even accepted the HC position at WV in 2002 for about $3.2 million a year! But, after he got there and checked the issues that surprised everyone..he left after only 8 days. Some say he tried to shake down WV. Some say WV sandbagged him. All say WV was screwed up.

He went back to BGSU and it went downhill from there.

My opinion, which has no weight I know, he wouldn't make it as HC anywhere because he over-controlled every aspect of the players. Everything. Stifled their lives, their way of breathing, their thoughts, their friends...everything. Recruits got the word.

Well, it never happened at IU so we'll never know. I'm still confident in Miller. We don't know how that will turn out yet either, but I think it will turn out well.
