Cowardly Trump to Flee to Scotland On Evening Before Biden’s Inauguration

Not only is he a criminal, he’s such a coward he can’t man up and show up at Biden’s inauguration.

Trump is a total loser.
I adore The Guardian, but this seems hard to believe. I can totally see Trump skipping town right before he leaves office. Suddenly accepting defeat and graciously welcoming Biden to take over definitely does not seem on-brand for him. But skipping the country? What's even the reason for that?

I don't know if you guys even know what is going to happen over the next 20 years. Half of the old Republicans will leave the Republican party and become a wing of your party. You got a big tent?

You’re welcome anytime. Republicans always bring quality liquor and women.
They just jettisoned the labor vote except for AFSCME, you are going to need some of us to defeat people that believe Ga. Republicans ignored evidence of voter fraud and colluded with the Democrat's. But we come with a price.

That would suggest you understand our grievances.
I think I probably do understand them more than most would admit, and I think you (personally) probably know that. But that doesn't change the fact that the price of your admission to the party of reason isn't that we all become Republican Lite. You are the ones who need a new home, and you are the ones who have to pay the price. Sorry, but them's the rules.

You assume that you can win elections without our votes. The down ballot evidence is strong. If you want to defeat the insurgences you must compromise. The rhetoric of the left is just as destructive.

I’m much easier to negotiate with than Goat. I thought I named my price-good liquor and women. 😊

Seriously, I’m good with welcoming sane, normal Republicans into the party to save democracy. I don’t think the Democrat party needs to concede the working class/labor vote to the Anti America party. Those people will be victims once again when that party flames out, assuming we survive that movement.

If you want your movement to be led by someone other than a Trumper, you must compromise.

This is our house. We'll be glad to let you be part of the conversation. You want to moderate us on guns, abortion, etc? Okay. Great! Make your case. But you don't get to make demands.

I'm willing to give some ground for good whiskey.

But seriously. I also welcome sane, normal Republicans. But I refuse their demand that we become sane, normal Republicans, too. No. We are liberals, we are Democrats. That's the reality. We hold all the cards. They can either join the game, or sit on the sideline bitching about how both parties suck. But they don't get to take over and declare that the rules have changed.

My guess would be so he could avoid as much US media coverage of Biden’s inauguration as possible and be able to play golf.

Scotland, unfortunately for Trump, today announced that golf is no longer allowed because of COVID (clearly the lizard people are trying to ruin everything for Trump).

That’s how Republicans roll. They lose, they still want to dictate the rules. They bring guns to a political fight, while Dems bring knives. Now if they bring the women and booze...

I’m concerned the Anti America party has a chance to become the old Democrat-Labor/Farmer party, while the current Democrat party/Never Trumper coalition morphs into the Mitt Romney party. The Bernie Bros would bolt to the Anti America party, as they already have a lot in common with Trumpers.

I’m not comfortable with that flip of coalitions at all, but I’d reluctantly go along because I truly think our country and democracy is currently in grave crisis.

If we get a genuine realignment, then good. Whatever. I'll end up on whichever side I agree most with. I have no emotional loyalty to Democrats. I am a Democrat because they mostly kind of believe in things sort of close to what I believe in, and they also aren't f*cking nuts like Republicans. But if that changes, then it changes. Maybe three years from now, I'll be a rabid partisan of the Socialist Populist Party of America the Beautiful. Who knows? I certainly don't. Politics in this country have long since passed the ability to predict.

To hell with the far left and far right. The Big Tent is in the middle.

Centrists vs progressives
There will be internal quarreling between the two factions. Centrist Democrats will be looking for bipartisanship. Progressives will be trying to gain power within the party but they also have to act against any and all GOP initiatives to satisfy its base. Pelosi is again Speaker but her power in the party is not what it once was. Her ability to round up votes for legislation will be an ongoing battle due to the small majority the Dems have in the House.
This is going to be a constant issue for Biden to deal with

I think the Ds are going to have trouble keeping the Biden coalition together, as I agree with what you say here. I do think one thing that will help is how far right and radical the GOP is and how much worse it will get. The Ds don’t have to give me anything to vote against Majorie Taylor Green. I think they can keep a lot of the center/center right just by not being anti American nut jobs.

To hell with the far left and far right. The Big Tent is in the middle.

Truth, and the party that can lance the festering boils at their own extremes and embrace the sincere, reasonable and thoughtful members of the other party...paired with independents... can deliver true greatness. Tough battle though, as such an organization would have the polarized "news" entertainment companies fighting them at every turn.

Unfortunately, I just don't currently see any capable leadership within the two parties we have.

The Dems definitely have some internal demons in the House that they will have to battle. Makeup of the Senate will be decided today. I expect the GOP to win both races. If that happens the Biden climate initiatives and roll backs of tax cuts will most certainly be stalled. Unless the Dems win both seats, there is little chance for a pro-Biden Senate.
We end up with a stalemate in House and Senate.

Im largely fine with a stalemate.

One of the best ways for bipartisanship is more women politicians. Then there’s the keystone of abortion. One sensible consensus is let’s minimize unnecessary pregnancies. On guns, there’s already plenty of room for consensus. Everyone wants more jobs. And so on.

I have not considered that more women politicians create more bipartisanship. Talk more about that.

Agreed that minimizing unwanted pregnancy is a win win.

And yes...guns. This one seems so simple to make huge strides on.

The first step is bringing back the Fairness Doctrine and have real penalties for the media when they purposely lie or mislead their listeners. That includes radio hosts that pretend they are nothing more than entertainers.

There are common misconceptions about other people's viewpoints due to the lies that get told. For example, "they're coming for my guns". No one is coming for anyone's guns.

For real? Trump has so obviously and blatantly blown this country to pieces...

Doesn’t major legislation need to be passed to fix his mess?

Oh, you guys were just being dramatic? Gotcha.

I would take this a step further. If it can be proven that you altered a digital image and posted it to the internet with the intent to deceive, $20,000 fine for the first offense and 6 months jail for the second offense.
Getting misleading crap like that off of Facebook (,etc.) would solve about a quarter of all the fake news out there.

And that goes for political candidates too. If you endorse an ad where the images of your opponent have been digitally altered (for example, ahem, darkening your African American opponent or increasing the nose size of your Jewish opponent, etc.), then you are liable.

I would think that would be included in the "mislead" part but yea definitely need to clarify what all is not allowed since everyone would try to find a loophole.

The Fairness Doctrine only applied to over the air radio and TV, which are licensed to use the public spectrum. Fox News or MSNBC would be unaffected. Might rein in Limbaugh and those types, but they could adjust simply by bringing in guests with different opinions and using them as punching bags.

No reason it couldn't be expanded to encompass all media
