Russia plans mass vaccination campaign in October

Russian health authorities are preparing to start a mass vaccination campaign against coronavirus in October, the health minister has said.

Russian media quoted Mikhail Murashko as saying that doctors and teachers would be the first to receive the vaccine.

Reuters, citing anonymous sources, said Russia's first potential vaccine would be approved by regulators this month.

However, some experts are concerned at Russia's fast-track approach.

On Friday, the leading infectious disease expert in the US, Dr Anthony Fauci, said he hoped that Russia - and China - were "actually testing the vaccine" before administering them to anyone.

Dr Fauci has said that the US should have a "safe and effective" vaccine by the end of this year.

"I do not believe that there will be vaccines so far ahead of us that we will have to depend on other countries to get us vaccines," he told US lawmakers.

Scores of possible coronavirus vaccines are being developed around the world and more than 20 are currently in clinical trials.

Mr Murashko, quoted by Interfax news agency, said that the Gamaleya Institute, a research facility in Moscow, had finished clinical trials of a vaccine and that paperwork was being prepared to register it.

"We plan wider vaccinations for October," he said, adding that teachers and doctors would be the first to receive it.

Last month, Russian scientists said that early-stage trials of an adenovirus-based vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Institute had been completed and that the results were a success.

Last month the UK, US and Canada security services said a Russian hacking group had targeted various organisations involved in Covid-19 vaccine development, with the likely intention of stealing information.

The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) said it was more than 95% certain that the group called APT29 - also known as The Dukes or Cozy Bear - was part of Russian intelligence services.

Russia's ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin, rejected the accusation, telling the BBC that there was "no sense in it".

In the UK, trials of a vaccine developed by Oxford University have shown that it can trigger an immune response and a deal has been signed with AstraZeneca to supply 100 million doses in Britain alone.

Hacked btec vaccines?

The modern-day 'space race', though I fear the consequences for the Russian people. The report says they’re going to give it to doctors and teachers first. Surely they are not that insane to risk the lives of essential workers to try and get one over on the West?

I think they should start with the Politburo, then the mid-level party members. Then if it’s safe the doctors, nurses and teachers.

Good let the Russkies be the guinea pigs. Russian engineering gave the world Chernobyl, I hope they do better with vaccines.

If the reports are correct, they will be stolen beta versions of the existing vaccines that are undergoing the rigorous methodologies in the West.

Others can confirm, but I think the early Soviet space program had a lot of casualties.

Don't drugs usually take years of testing to see the effects over time? How can Dr. Fauci say a vaccine will be safe? How can he know that? How many of you would be the test subject for this vaccine? One last question. Dr. Fauci has said we should not take the Russian vaccine. He has been negative towards it. How can he know this is a dangerous vaccine to take?

Vaccine Testing and the Approval Process

Drug Review Steps Simplified
  1. Preclinical (animal) testing.
  2. An investigational new drug application (IND) outlines what the sponsor of a new drug proposes for human testing in clinical trials.
  3. Phase 1 studies (typically involve 20 to 80 people).
  4. Phase 2 studies (typically involve a few dozen to about 300 people).
  5. Phase 3 studies (typically involve several hundred to about 3,000 people).
  6. The pre-NDA period, just before a new drug application (NDA) is submitted. A common time for the FDA and drug sponsors to meet.
  7. Submission of an NDA is the formal step asking the FDA to consider a drug for marketing approval.
  8. After an NDA is received, the FDA has 60 days to decide whether to file it so it can be reviewed.
  9. If the FDA files the NDA, an FDA review team is assigned to evaluate the sponsor's research on the drug's safety and effectiveness.
  10. The FDA reviews information that goes on a drug's professional labeling (information on how to use the drug).
  11. The FDA inspects the facilities where the drug will be manufactured as part of the approval process.
  12. FDA reviewers will approve the application or issue a complete response letter.

The Russians hacked into various pharma & universities' computers. Plus they seem to be by-passing Phase 3 and go straight into commercialisation.

You have a very annoying habit of acting like you are asking questions when you really are expressing your opinions. While that may be an effective strategy for talking to elementary kids or really stupid people, the adults in the room find it very off-putting. If you have something to say, say it. We are not your congregation, nor your children, both for which I will say a prayer of thanks.

As long as you want to speak of annoying habits, your habit of posting about posters instead of about issues annoys me.

No. Through clinical trials. Because. 17. Education and experience.

As long as I get you a prayin. lol So you aren't worried at all about rushed vaccines?

Others can confirm, but I think the early Soviet space program had a lot of casualties.
Per Google 3 cosmonauts died. The US had the three astronauts who burned in the fire on the launch pad and the two space shuttle disasters

Yes, and for something taken once or twice, after the last dose, you want to know an absence of unwanted effects for at least 4 months. That would warrant limited FDA approval, with continued monitoring, then possibly full approval after 6-9 months of safety.
How can Dr. Fauci say a vaccine will be safe? How can he know that?
Because he's smart and trusts the scientific method.

How many of you would be the test subject for this vaccine?

I signed up. OVER 100,000 have.

Science tells you to assume something is not safe and effective until data PROVES it to be safe and effective. Russia hasn't disclosed any data. They have admitted that less than 200 people have taken the vaccine. If they were looking to get FDA approval, they would be FAR SHORT of the data package needed to even advance to phase 2 trials, let alone phase 3, or approval.

The Russians are guessing that they have it right. I hope they do, but in the USA we don't gamble with drug approvals.

I wrote all this figuring that MAYBE you might want to know the truth, from someone in drug discovery and development.

You signed up to be a test subject for potential vaccine.? Please elaborate, just curious. Thanks

Yale and the nba just got approval for a rapid, cheap test that they had jointly funded. Looks like a significant advancement in testing.

Antigen?

No free lunch. Any rapid test will be inaccurate.
It’s a simple saliva test that Yale claims is on par with the nasal swabs re accuracy. It’s called saliva direct and they’re touting it as a potential game changer for sports. Hence the Yale nba collab.

If the saliva test is similar to the Israeli version, 95% accuracy levels, it won't be much use. Potentially 5 people out of 100 will produce false negative? Where can you use it unless its a pure bubble,
You can't use it and allow these saliva tested people to wander into the community? (One person will meet on the average of 10 people per day and those ten people will meet further ten each.)
95%, in reality, will be less than 95% in practice anyway.
I think we'll be stuck with the PCR tests -- and none of the self-swabbing PCR test kits which I am sure will have extremely poor accuracy results. (Swabbing is a skill.)

Just google it! Lol. Yale saliva direct test. What I understand about these tests could fit on a fingernail.

About the NBA/Yale test, here is something we need to applaud them on. They made it open source. They will give it to any lab that agrees to follow FDA protocols on it. If it works at all, we owe them a debt of gratitude. They could have locked it up and made a huge profit, they chose not to.

Wife sent me this email this evening:
