Congrats Ian Thomas

This the perfect team for him. They’ll ask him to block and be versatile. His blocking improved at the senior bowl. Olson is at the end of his career, so this is a long term move for the panthers too. He will get a lot of 1 on 1 match ups because teams have to go man coverage to get an extra guy in the box for cam newton. Thomas probably couldn’t have ended up in a better situation from a scheme standpoint.

Who else will get selected? Simmie? Tegray? Covington? Anyone else?

First I want to say it is not my intent to "rip" these guys, this is just my attempt at an "objective" analysis...

I think Scales cost himself a lot of money by missing a lot of the type of tackles in the pu game that'd he had consistently made over the previous two seasons... Maybe he was hurt, maybe was tired, I don't know, but that pu game really hurt his resume heading into the draft...

Cobbs weaknesses have been covered fairly in depth on here previously. NFL coaches value every possession and to them (unlike fans), occasional great plays don't make up for bad drops...

Covington is raw and may well turn out to have the longest career of the three of them.

I'm glad they all played for IU and enjoyed watching them.

The NFL is a whole different level...

Would be great if Simmie goes as a UDF to Colts . He could turn out to be really good esp at 6-4 you cant coach heighth

Chris Covington goes in the 6th round to the Dallas Cowboys...!

Never been a Dallas fan but I'll root for him to do well...

You were spot on about Convington. Some of the analysts even noted when he was being picked that Scales is a better player right now, but Convington is the prototype and that’s why Convington went off the board sooner. When I was reviewing some of the discussions about Scales, it was also noted that statistically he had a down 2017 season from his insane season in 2016, and that hurt his stock slightly, which plays into what you mentioned about his game against PU. He was better in that crazy season he had in 2016. In the end, I think Scales ends up successful, but Covington has a ridiculous ceiling as we all know.

And I agree with you 100% about Cobbs. I’ve noted a few times on the board that I thought it was a mistake for him to come out, but at the same time he may have rational reasons for coming out and may need cash now, so I can’t bash him for coming out. But if he didn’t need the money now, I really wish he had come back. My concern were the drops and speed, which I think he could’ve Improved with one more year. He’s honestly a second round potential talent if he solves those two issues, and another year could’ve only helped his stock.

Scales is to the Rams as an UDFA. Great landing spot for him. Wade Phillips loves blitzing LB’s. Likes smaller faster guys. Scales should be in the mix for some snaps as a rookie on that roster. Would be shocked if he didn’t make their team given that they just traded a pro bowl LB. it’s a good mutual fit.
