today was very hard to watch. Yes, Ohio State is one of the best in the country. But we have played them many times over the years when they are in the top ten and have played them tough and even.
We got our butts kicked today. No contest. Very disappointing and here are my takeaways.
1-defensive secondary often times seemed confused and intimidated. As a result out of position, not focused or tuned in. Result: open receivers, no contain, missed tackles. Missed assignments. Also, no attack mode or aggressiveness. 2-#1 is a result of lack of mental toughness, not reading and reacting to keys, and coaching. 3- we will never compete with the best if we get our butts blown off the ball in the trenches. Yes, OSU is good. But we should be too. Both our offensive line and defensive line got blown off the ball. You MUST run the ball to win! If we can run. Eat the clock. Control the ball. The passing game is easier and your opponent can’t score without the ball. We must be able to run the ball. Who the was QB today made no difference. When you take a two step drop and the defense is already all over you, you are done!
We can get it together. But a “headcheck” is in order for players and coaches. Missed calls and blown assignments can’t be tolerated. This week with UConn it might be the right time for a “wake up” call to give someone else a chance. Who knows, but we can do it. Let’s Go! Get it done!
