So this makes twice now within a season that a QB has left.

First Tronti, and when he left I was shaking my head. After all, Dawkins would have been gone at the seasons end and he could have battled and possibly seen playing time this year and been in a great spot next year. I posted before when that happened that it may have been mishandled.

Now Dawkins, which leaves us in a real spot. Not sure how the QB room is being run, but that's two strikes in a short period of time.

Hopefully this is not a habit and just a couple of weird circumstances. BUT it has me thinking...

Kind of my sentiments. Not like Tronti got snapped up by big time place. And Dawkins leaves me baffled. Suck it up and be a team player. You never know how things go, whether injury, or Ramsey wasn't moving team and your number is called. But can't hit a home run if not even at bat!

I'm being quite glib here. I would've loved to have Dawkins on the roster.

These are, in many respects, first world problems (if you will). Three QB's who, on paper, can/should play...and one picks up his toys and goes home.

I'm ok with our three deep.

We'll see.

I’m not so sure his number was going to be called if Ramsey got hurt. Penix has really impressed the staff, more so than Dawkins. Coaches love his demeanor and maturity for a frosh....and he has a good arm. I think the coaches let Dawkins know that his time on the field would be special packages and that was the decision point for him.

I think all of this is really much ado about nothing. Guys quitting because they can't hack it doesn't upset me. The only thing I'm even slightly worried about is depth. But generally most teams are hosed if their starter and backup go down in the same season. The problem is that we're Indiana and those things seem to happen to us more often than they probably should (or that's the way it seems at least).

I'm confident that if Ramsey proved himself to be superior, then he really is. My hunch is that Penix would be the starter if he wasn't a true frosh. I'm guessing it was that close between him and Ramsey.

The only thing I'm even slightly worried about is depth

I'm more than slightly worried about it. And not just because we're Indiana, and we've seen this movie before, but because there seems to be an increasing number of instances around the conference and the country where multiple QBs get hurt in a season. We'll have to hope for the best.

The weird circumstance is that we have a very good true freshman and the other guys did not see much PT in their future.

Not that weird just not something IU has seen much.
