I would appreciate any of my age peers, who are old enough to remember Laz, to chime in.
Hartman reminds me of Laz. Similar size, similar skill set. Both were very flexible players in that they could guard multiple positions, could defend well, could shoot, and could score going to the basket. Both good passers. Both were Basketball smart. They both tend to make plays that allow other players to acheive ("glue guys").
Laz was a little longer; Hartman is a little stronger, or at least thicker. Laz may have been a more solid ball handler. He was also, I think a little quicker.
For those that only remember Laz as a very lame color commentator on IU games, you missed a heck of a player. He played, at 6-7, mostly guard, although today we would probably call him a wing. He earned the nick-name "Super Sub" (if it sounds likea dorky nickname, well it was the 70s--you should have seen the hair and clothing styles) because he was a great 6th man. Was a high school teammate of Tom Abernathy at South Bend St. Joseph's.
Anyone else seeing this???
