Coach Of The Year:

Congratulations Coach Allen. Looking forward to the Outback Bowl and another Hoosier victory. After many, many years of sitting in Memorial Stadium cheering for the Hoosiers and waiting for the day when IU had a winning football team; I now live in Florida and only make it to the stadium once or twice a year. I'm so excited to make the short drive to Raymond James Stadium to see this Hoosier team . . . Saturday can't get here soon enough!!!

This is a great award for a great man. Has an IU football coach ever won this award previously?

Yes, John Pont won in 1967. Voted by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The AP/Associated Press didn't start selecting a COY until 1998.

AP went with Jamey Chadwell of Coastal Carolina as COY, with Allen second and Fickell (Cincy) third. I'm assuming the votes were cast before bowl season. CC lost to Liberty the other day in the Cure Bowl.

I'm going with the people's vote...😉

The AP's take is not necessarily a bad thing...😣 Just one more log to toss on the fire to help fuel the 2021 season...😡😡😡

There's no bigger CTA fan than me, but all three of these coaches had outstanding regular seasons and, as long as they're in the top 3, it's tough to argue with any order of finish.

AP just went with their "darling" story without looking at the competition level and IU's historic season thinking the B1G teams were down despite their talent.

it is good to see Wisconsin win their bowl game against Wake Forest - they finished 4-3.

Coastal was picked dead last in the sun belt going into the season

I'm sure that Tom Allen isn't bothered a bit by the outcome..., but..., if I'm an INDIANA player, this is just one more slight in a very long line of them... 😡

I'm hoping our Players allow these burning logs made up of contempt and disrespect for their accomplishments to keep a fire stoked and going strong from this point on to well into 2022!!!!!🔥🔥🔥

I can’t imagine it’s as difficult to leapfrog a bunch of teams in a conference that simply doesn’t have the talent of a Power Five conference. Did Costal Carolina really demonstrate it could contend with a top tier program, like, say, well, Ohio State? It all became obvious once they lost their bowl game to another low caliber team.

That’s why it was bs and political they played each other. So people can say oh it was a low caliber team. Liberty were ranked 23rd, higher than most of the big ten, and beat multiple acc schools. The irony of your post is that the same bias iu fights they fight. Coastal liberty and Louisiana were 4-1 against the power 5 with the only loss by one point on the road at nc state. Also can throw in a top ten win against BYU.

It also matters that CC had to make the kind of gains they made in their own environment. Against teams that recruit players on the same level as CC does. The great strides they made are mainly due to a great coaching effort. No one would expect CC to play with OSU. IU is expected to play with them however.

But iu lost. Even our best team maybe ever still can’t beat them. We’ve lost to them 50 times in a row. To say coastal and liberty are lower caliber this year as the op did is simply prejudice. What top ten team did iu beat? Calling the average big ten teams better than Louisiana or liberty or coastal is pure speculation. Again those schools went 4-1 against the P5 this year. Putting coastal vs liberty protected the status quo. Cfb has a status quo that’s bs.

So.... finishing first in the Sun Belt Conference, even in it's best years, doesn't mean sh&t.

Just look at the schools in that conference. Most all of them would be lucky to be competitive in the MAC.
Okay. But I think it was that they went from being picked last in the sun belt to ranked 9th in the nation with a win over a top 10 and top 20 team. That’s a hell of a coaching job. So...AP coach of the year....and for what it’s worth sun belt teams beat two teams ranked in the top ten this year.

This isn't true. The Sun Belt hold an advantage head-to-head in both regular season (34-30) and bowl games (13-9). The bowl record shows the best of the Sun Belt normally beat the best of the MAC.

But this award is not about who has the best team. It is about who did the best job coaching their team. This guy deserves this award. Hell of a job.

Exactly right. And that's why Allen was in the Top 3 and not, for example, Ryan Day.

CC wins? Campbell; Arkansas State; Louisiana Lafayette; Georgia So; S Alabama; Appalachian St; Texas State; BYU; Troy. How do you suppose they’d have done with IUs schedule? How would IU have done against their “murderer’s row?”

Lol murderers row? Iu doesn’t have a top ten win. Iu doesn’t even have a top 25 win. The big ten teams we beat this year aren’t in the AP top 25. Murderers row. Please. Coastal beat #8 BYU and #16 Louisiana. Louisiana destroyed Iowa state at Iowa state. You are allowing prejudice to speculate results. You have no idea how they would have done.

This happened when you catapult teams that play no one into Top 25 in favor of Big 10 teams that pound each other because the former are undefeated and the latter have multiple losses. The might of BYU and La are figments of your imagination. And how is BYU a Top 10 win and IU’s win over Penn State is not? Talk about bias...

Those schools went 4–1 against the P5 with only a one point loss to top 25 nc state. In those 4 wins was a top ten road win at Iowa state. You post with your feelings. No data.

In any given year you don’t know how good teams are unless they play. Cfb is the only sport where they don’t get the opportunity.

Okay, granted the CC coach did a great job and he is deserving but not as deserving as CTA, imo

If Michigan, MSU, PSU and Wisky had played Coastal Carolina's schedule they all would have gone undefeated!....

BYU was a complete joke, just look at who they played this year... they didn't beat anyone special and neither did CC or Liberty... to put any of them above IU or any of the B1G East teams is laughable.

With B1G not playing non-conference games the B1G teams ended up beating up on each other and the consequence for all of the teams IU beat was to be penalized by the pollsters. That's the reason IU didn't have a top 25 win...

Syracuse is one of those big wins. IU Strength of Schedule was 4th nationally. How’s that compare to your heroes?

Again. You named four teams that were shit in the big ten. You have no idea if that’s true.

Coastal was top 15 strength of record. Today iu doesn’t have a single top 25 win. Preseason sos is meaningless and part of the bias that afflicts cfb
