Coach Knight at the IUBB reunion...

Lighten up, Francis. You’re not the one my generation knocked on the door to see if you could come out to play. We already knew your kind was too busy in the basement deciphering instructions to the Erector Set. I bet you will find yourself more comfortable on the PUke board. Go Now! (Moody Blues)

Is that an old timers joke to say I wouldn't have been outside playing sports and instead playing with an erector set in the basement? Wow. What a zinger, or maybe you guys call it a knee slapper? 😂 Yikes.

If he does, he’s dumber than I thought. His social circle must have a very short radius. It’s probably safe to say his surveillance cameras look very menacing, along with his sexually frustrated Doberman.
Why is he dumb to live in Bloomington? Are you trying to say that he is some sort of social pariah? I doubt if many people are still chewing that old bone with you.

Are you trying to say he’s not? I don’t doubt that he probably does live in Bloomington. He’s probably deluded enough and lacking in self-awareness to believe he actually did a righteous thing. I would call him a Judas but at least Judas had the decency to hang himself...

I was being facetious, somewhat. I imagine there are enough Knight haters in Btown to make it worthwhile for him to live there…enough to offset the Felling haters.

Okay, here’s the lowdown. I stopped to look him up. Yes, he’s in Btown, spends most of his days at the American Legion #18. Tries to limit his drink of Jim Beam and Coke. Is now 80, blind in one eye and has trouble with balance after suffering a partial stroke. Is married to his second wife for over 10 years, has 3 kids and 6 grandkids. He’s happy. This is from a Doyle article in Oct, 2020. I’ll leave the man alone to enjoy his final years, free of further ridicule from me. If Bob can live with him, so can I.

You'll leave him alone? I'm sure he is truly relieved.

Lighten up, Francis.

RMK was no JC, so no need for hanging. He was one of the greatest men's college basketball coaches of all time, but hardly worthy of even the most tangential Holy Savior allusions.

He’ll be truly relieved when I show up to offer my truce at the American Legion Post up on the Third St hill to buy him his next Jim Beam and Coke. I think we called it a Mule back in high school… or maybe I overheard someone just say it kicked like a mule. Hell, afterwards we might end up driving around campus sharing a peace pipe, relishing the two-legged eye candy. Come Labor Day Weekend, Ron and Bob, maybe even Woody, may be out to my BC abode for pulled pork barbecue. Stranger things have happened in the Twilight Zone, you know.

Not me. Watched my grandfather and many family friends slowly recede with dementia and/or Alzheimers. No thanks and I don't want to be that kind of a burden and source of hurt and frustration on loved ones. Hoping we'll see the light and recognize someone choosing not to whither away like that is humane if they choose not to. If not, I hope I have the faculties to take care of things myself. My grandfather knew he was sick, although he often couldn't remember the name Alzheimers, but on more than one occassion he told me he wished they'd let him have his gun so he could "take care of things". 70-80 good years is plenty for me without a slow multi-year descent into confusion and oblivion at the end. That's not lucky and my guess is if you think it is, you haven't had a loved one go through it.

Dementia is an unwanted side effect of artificially extending our life expectancy with drugs. The good is weighed with the bad with good ultimately sinking lower on the once balanced scale. I predict that someday, something certainly less messy, a prescription-only pill will be available for those wishing to opt out, for whatever reason, as our burgeoning population becomes increasingly problematic...a sobering thought, indeed. I think I'll have another d-d-drink.

I agree on basically "living too long" or that our lives are now extended beyond our bodies'/brain ability to function. But, I think you're dead wrong on a pill. Health care and big pharma and the elderly are community are about the only ones happy with this.... but they are REALLY happy$!

Call a specialist’s office for a first time visit and they say the first available appointment is in 15 months after you’ve just told them you’re age 70 on Medicare. Tell the front desk you’re age 35 with private insurance and the response is, “Next Tuesday, morning or afternoon?”

I imagine emergency healthcare workers euthanize hopeless accident victims in severe states of pain more often than we’ll ever know. At least I hope so for the sake of the suffering. Just a little dab of this or that within a stab to check you out.

Not been my experience and while I'm not 35, I'm not 70 and have private health insurance... and generally still wait months to see my GP. I actually switched because my old Doc, was always 6+ months out. And I don't believe any healthcare professional is giving any patient something to kill them. I wish with permission, they could.

I stay away but how could it even be possible to be 6+ months out? Does he /she only work one day a week or every other week or something?

Okay, my brother and his wife recently...like one month ago, moved to Bloomington from California. Right before my brother moved he found out he has a relatively rare autoimmune disease, a type of rheumatoid arthritis with swelling of his joints and pain. He was put on a drug right before he left and it was one where he was to slowly ween himself off of, due to potential side effects. He did as prescribed and the swelling and pain increased again. He needs to see a local specialist so his quality of life can be improved. He called a local specialist in this field and can't be seen for 15 most for the initial appointment. Is this what our mighty healthcare system has been reduced to today? My wife and I had a similar experience with one of the big Dermatology groups in B-town. We couldn't get in for our initial exams for almost a year. What kind of service is that? Is it because we're not a patient of record? What if one of us had a suspected melanoma and was told we had to wait that long while the SOB continues to grow?

This is off topic, but we had lunch with my brother and his wife in B-town today. The street on the north end of the Bloomington downtown square has giant BLACK LIVES MATTER enblazed on the pavement in 15' multi-colored, painted lettering. Would the liberal mayor there allow the non profit organization I head up to paint our organization's name on the south end of a public street? I think you know the answer and it's the pure and utter bullshit you should be referring to.

Does your group name have the same number of letters?

Let’s just say enough letters to encroach onto Walnut St a bit. That might be a problem for the Malibu Grill people eating streetside.

With the appearance that BLM is flush with cash from donations all over the world (see brand new tour busses lined up at all the riotous, store break-ins at liberal cities). I wonder if the BLM application to the city for the the use of public, taxpayer paid advertising space could have come with a few extra “perks” for the governing body? What do you think, a heavy-laden gym bag pick up at Switchyard Park by You-Know-Who maybe? ;)

I’m on your side my friend…. My point is Medicare, private insurance, cash pay, etc…. ALL wait months for certain specialties. I’m in primary care and nobody ever waits a week to see us…. But we have the same frustrations referring to certain specialties with ALL insurances. Specialties that don’t pay particularly well (rheumatology, endocrinology, etc…) just
don’t draw many med school grads.

Why make a comment to me insinuating I was speaking for you when I never said I was? And I will mock you for whining. Absolutely.
To err is human. To forgive divine. Look he was a great coach with a huge temper and personality flaw. Everyone gets that. I do think that he is starting to realize that those who loved him as coach are not the ones who desired to be rid of him. While I never looked the other way for some of his actions,I also know we all have faults and shortcomings. The media does a great job of kicking a man when he's down,I don't think fans who don't care for him need to pile on too. Let him live out his life. In the end,God is the only judge of each one of us.

Ah, something to note. You mean like foreign specialists? Certainly a need for these remarkable caregivers of lesser pay, I must add.

I know his daughter, Lori. Very nice lady.

She used to date Marty Simmons back when Simmons played for her dad.

It appears he's married to one of Simmons' and his daughter's high school contemporaries. All kinds of rumors and gossip about him. None of them good.

Yep, and I do like RMK. Mistakes were made all around and so is life. I've completely moved on but some prefer not to..... for whatever reason.

Wait a business owner, that is an accountant, that is in healthcare... Is calling someone out for Bullshit? Try to get your story straight first.....
Sorry you‘re not familiar with sarcasm…. I have to use a calculator for addition. An accountant I ain’t

30 or so years ago, that would’ve been cringeworthy. But Marty’s in his mid-50s now. I fail to see any issue with a mid-50s woman marrying an older man. It’s not like she’s a teenager.

That said, I have no idea about Ron Felling’s life or lifestyle. If he’s in a bad way, that’s a shame. But if he did in fact marry somebody his daughter’s age, they’re both well past the age where that would be problematic.
