OK, I got into an internet argument with folks a couple pages back on the nature of football defense.. 4/3's, 3/4's, and everything else.

I look at things traditionally. And I could explain my thinking ALL OVER AGAIN... But who was right is not important. I can perfectly understand the other arguments and acknowledge how you feel that way. And the particulars of my disagreement.. And say..... It doesn't matter. We all want success for IU and for the defense to be part of that success.

Now on page two of this forum is an excellent article posted by JOSHUA TREE in SB Nation about Coach Allen's defense. It's got pictures and diagrams and some detail on responsibilities. By ALL ACCOUNTS it's a 4/2/5 defense. Everyone agrees it's a 4/2/5 defense.
BUT if you look at the pictures... It looks suspiciously like what IU played in NICKEL situations. 3 down linemen, 3 LB's.... An extra DB, and the 4 guys in the secondary. I scratched my head. Twice.

So I've been curious as to how IU would use existing personnel and recruit to the defense. The BULL DE in that system looks exactly like the BANDIT in the existing IU defense. The size of their "Bull" end fits what IU has as Bandit. SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY ARE GOING TO PLAY. I JUST HOPE THEY PLAY IT WELL.

So I'm throwing up my hands and waiting to see what happens. I often say "I'm just a guy with a computer". Well it's never been more apparent than today.
