You shouldn’t have included Miller Kopp. It'll be nice having a 6'6" Hoosier HS baller who can create his own shot(when was the last 1). Spot up shooters like Alford and Miller Kopp can be potent but in today's game the likes of players to Gunn, the kid from Wisky and what Galloway is trying to be are the advantage to a programs W/L. In other words a Woodson type player.
Not in the same sentence with Alford. Blasphemy!!You shouldn’t have included Miller Kopp.

BS.Not in the same sentence with Alford. Blasphemy!!
Next he‘ll add that transfer from California whose name I’ve completely blocked outYou shouldn’t have included Miller Kopp.
I can never tell these days if someone is serious or if I'm being trolled for laughs. Everyone has a good poker face behind a keyboard.
Or wasn't alive to see Alford play.I can never tell these days if someone is serious or if I'm being trolled for laughs. Everyone has a good poker face behind a keyboard.
If you're serious, then you either have a lot of Alford-hate in your blood, or way too much manlove for Kopp.
Pretty weak with Loyer and Braden Smith not playing. So CJ Gunn was MVP.
Who else was on the team? High star players?
You guys are missing it and bringing your narrative. The topic wasn't a comparison. The point is both are spot up shooters not slashers nor offense off the dribble. Gunn is. Got it.I can never tell these days if someone is serious or if I'm being trolled for laughs. Everyone has a good poker face behind a keyboard.

I'm in my 8th decade. Whaddya think?Or wasn't alive to see Alford play.
Thanks. So we must dial down CJ’s performance?Pretty weak with Loyer and Braden Smith not playing.
I wouldn't think so. He was clearly the best player on the court all weekend and would have stood out even if Loyer and Smith played. He's a very underrated prospect in my eyes.Thanks. So we must dial down CJ’s performance?
Uh....Alford could shoot off the dribble. Alford could shoot from anywhere the moment that he entered the gym.You guys are missing it and bringing your narrative. The topic wasn't a comparison. The point is both are spot up shooters not slashers nor offense off the dribble. Gunn is. Got it.
Alford was a helluva lot more than a "spot up" shooter. You never saw him play. How old are you? You post like you are under 45.You guys are missing it and bringing your narrative. The topic wasn't a comparison. The point is both are spot up shooters not slashers nor offense off the dribble. Gunn is. Got it.
You need to read the detail in the posts above. He shot off the dribble in HS. For IU he was a spot up shooter because he owned the best movement without the ball in collegiate BB. Oh, 45 + 1/2 again + more.Alford was a helluva lot more than a "spot up" shooter. You never saw him play. How old are you? You post like you are under 45.
Alford must have run 10 miles every game, running through the maze of screens in the RMK motion offense. He was a shooter but to call him a 'spot up' shooter is a rather large injustice. He was rarely left open to 'spot up'.You guys are missing it and bringing your narrative. The topic wasn't a comparison. Alford’s movement during a game was very comparable to a current S Curry. Not comparing their games otherwise but the miles were similarAlford must have run 10 miles every game, running through the maze of screens in the RMK motion offense. To each their own. Arguing semantics gives me a migraine.
watched Curry last night... Even though he had a terrible shooting game he is so impactful just because of his constant movement and dragging defenders with him... Would love to see someone with an Alford motor again. Of course if they can't shoot it can become mostly meaningless movement... So I guess what I'm asking for is a reincarnation??Alford’s movement during a game was very comparable to a current S Curry. Not comparing their games otherwise but the miles were similar
Remember this?Uh....Alford could shoot off the dribble. Alford could shoot from anywhere the moment that he entered the gym.
It's amazing how people underestimate just how good that guy was. Think about this, though - with the type of offense Woodson is trying to run, think about how valuable of a player Alford would be. He shot 53% from THREE POINT RANGE his senior year at IU. And this was when the B1G was great and all the defenses were set up to stop him.
And sorry, you don't become the all-time leading scorer in the B1G by just being a spot-up shooter (and yes, I know he's been passed by Cheaney, but still). I can understand why people were asking you if you ever saw him play. He had a very nice mid-range game as well.
"All his life, a big "W" on his chest." I like that one. Alford had something no other IU player has had. He wasn't blessed with the physical attributes one might expect in a great player, but Man, could he shoot, making the most of his talents through hard work.
Coach, I’m assuming you saw Woody play when he was a high school player at Broad Ripple. I first saw him play when he was scrimmaging with the other recruits in his great recruiting class before practice started. Do you see any of Woody’s game in CJ’s game? Thanks, MikeI wouldn't think so. He was clearly the best player on the court all weekend and would have stood out even if Loyer and Smith played. He's a very underrated prospect in my eyes.
Really tough comparison for Gunn. Woody was one of the best to do it both in high school and in an Indiana uniform. Woody was a bull and just had such a tough edge, no-nonsense demeanor about him. Probably a little unfair to CJ at this point.Coach, I’m assuming you saw Woody play when he was a high school player at Broad Ripple. You may want to go on YouTube and look up the games in the 1987 NCAA tournament and watch Alford. He created a lot of shots and needed only the briefest and smallest of openings to get his shots off. It might help your appreciation of just how good and how difficult it was for other teams to stop him. Learning is a good thing, particularly with your own eyes. You need to read the detail in the posts above. He shot off the dribble in HS. Who knows, maybe Smith gets Gunn extra buckets. He is a pretty good pgI wouldn't think so. He was clearly the best player on the court all weekend and would have stood out even if Loyer and Smith played. He's a very underrated prospect in my eyes.
You know the most shocking thing in that video clip? That was Dickie V talking, and he sounded so calm and insightful. Clearly, way before he became a caricature.
Alford wasn’t a spot up shooter though… Not that he couldn’t be, but that isn’t how I would describe him.You guys are missing it and bringing your narrative. The topic wasn't a comparison. The point is both are spot up shooters not slashers nor offense off the dribble. Gunn is. Got it.
Nice write up from Crimson Quarry on CJ Gunn. I think CJ out plays his recruiting ranking.
CJ Shot over 37% from 3 in both his Junior and Senior years. Unlike Randy Wittman, CJ won’t switch from center to wing and starts his collegiate career with catch and shoot skills
Lawerence North Star, Damon Bailey, had a storied run for CRMK.
