Cincy game nearly sold out

It drives me crazy that these games have any tix left. I am a relatively new fan as I am only a sophomore at IU currently, so Ik that Idk the full history of IUFB like most people, but what I do know is that there are plenty of alumni within driving distance to Bloomington, and this is the most hyped up IU team since either the 90s or the 60s, those games should be sold out. Cincy is week three, the weather should be great, not to mention they are a top 10 team(even if they don't get as much name recognition being a GO5 school). And OSU is OSU, absolutely no reason OSU shouldn't already be sold out in a year where there is this much hype around the Hoosiers. Ik those games will probably sell out, in a few weeks, but it speaks to something greater, if we can barely sell out OSU, will IU ever have even a near sell out against MSU and Minnesota!?!? I guess it takes decades of sustained success before people will get excited enough about IU, I would have hoped last year would have hyped people up, but I understand that getting Nebraska fanbase, that packs the stadium even when they suck and have sucked for 5 years now doesn't happen overnight.

1) welcome aboard
2) enjoy college, it flies by and you don't get the time back
3) both games will eventually sell out, and it's not the worst sales number considering the number of people still pretty COVID-cautious.
4) you're going to have to lay off the text abbreviations in the future or the old timers on here won't be able to crack your code 😁

You certainly have the right attitude and you are preaching to the choir! With that said, having two sellouts in a year is a huge rarity, especially one that isnt OSU or UM. Season ticket sales were way up too, so its a tremendous step in the right direction. Its getting better. It will take time though. In 2004, our homecoming game drew 22,000. It takes a lot to combat years of being beaten down.

Now, having said that, if we get off to a hot start, Im going to be pissed if the last couple of games dont sell well. Running out of excuses.

But for covid they'd be sold out.

Unfortunately there will be very good representation from Cincy and OSU fans at these games, and that is the reason these games are almost sold out. IU’s historically apathetic fan base is going to need much more convincing before we are able to consistently sell out the Rock.

They will be bring a lot of fans, but IU fans on social media have represented well when it comes to mentioning that they’ve bought tickets to these games. There is excitement. No need to go all Eeyore. Especially Cincy…they hardly have some huge following.

Ahia used to bring 20K back in the 80s and 90s but nothing close to that in recent years. They still bring more fans by far than any other team

They are the most obnoxious aholes.

I’m a Cincy fan who will be attending the Sept 18 game. I’m not sure how many Bearcat fans will attend; however, there is a lot of interest in this game and hotels have been sold out for months.

There have been times when Cincinnati has travelled well: 20k+ for the Sugar bowl against Florida, 8k for the Big East Championship against Pittsburgh. I’m guessing 10k for the Liberty Bowl against Vanderbilt.

I don’t think it’s an accident that the Cincy game at Notre Dame is their very first sellout, and it appears the Cincy game at IU will be yours.

UC fans will show for a big game, a big party…and especially for a combination of the both.

Just like IU, season tickets sales at Cincinnati have soared and the student section just sold out and is expanded to the overflow section.

Glad to see Cinn on the rise in FB. Looking forward to the game in Btown, if you have not been there it is a great road trip. We trust that you guys are the more tolerable FB fans from the buckeye state.

I can't like this post enough!

I’ll never forget a game with them a few years back when one of their classy lady fans was yelling ‘break his f***** neck as Sudfeld scrambled out of the pocket.
My wife looked at me and said these people are nuts,do they realize this is just a football game?
She looked at my wife and said f*** off.
Yes they are a classy bunch.

Went to a game with some EVV buddies years ago. Tailgating "Buck Nuts" asked why we even bother coming to the games as we walked by. They were arrogant and obnoxious. The kicker was, they didn't appear to have attended a class at OSU (or anywhere else). I know that sounds elitist and it might be but it struck me how tribal they were about the "Buck Nuts." Go Hoosiers! I want them so badly at home this year.

I saw a teetering old OSU lady, probably in her 80s, flip some people off on her way into a game. They take that shit to their graves.

Have to remember that the vast majority of OSU visitors are those that DON’T get season tickets to the games in Columbus. They are kind of the bandwagon afterbirth of the fan base there. Not to say the “normal” crowd is much better but the special needs fans they have that visit opposing stadiums are those that have no more connection to the university in Columbus than you or I. It’s a way for the couch-burners to display state pride.

Not sure I understand any negativity around ticket sales this year. As RBB pointed out in another thread, season ticket sales are up significantly. We've got six home games and two of them will clearly be sellouts. The Michigan State game will almost certainly be north of 45k. Rutgers and Minnesota, near season's end, will sell out if we're in the hunt for the division title.

Just for perspective, Iowa, another nationally ranked program with much more historical football success than IU, as of yesterday still had 3,000 tickets remaining for their home opener against us, and none of their seven home games have sold out to date. They still have 8,600 unsold for Kent State on Sep 18, and almost 10,000 unsold for Illinois on Nov 20.

All things considered, I think we're doing well with ticket sales.

For some perspective, from 2005-2017 when I lived in either Chicago or Cincinnati, I would typically make it to 1 or 2 games a year. Would have loved to attend more, but other commitments, logistics (either a full day if not two due to travel), associated finances/expenditures, and young kids got in the way.

I would never buy tickets more than a week or 2 in advance (Cincy game is in 3 and a half weeks) because if I was only going to go to one game that year, I wanted to make sure no other commitment/logistic issues would come up so that the trip went as smoothly as possible. I might start tentatively planning or identify games that would be my best options well before that, but would just wait to pull the trigger on tickets.

I would assume that many other people are in the same situation

I'm a flight rather than a drive away and would like to come back for a game, but hotels in Bloomington sell out faster than tickets - a lot faster. If I'm flying back, I don't want to stay in Indy and drive down, I want the full Bloomington experience that I love and miss so much. As far as I can find, there are 0 hotel rooms available in Bloomington for the Cincy and OSU games, and the MSU game isn't far behind. I'm not always able to plan 6 months out, so I get squeezed out of attending most IU games due to hotel availability in Bloomington. It's not an uncommon frustration for loyal fans coming from a greater distance away.

While I haven’t been to b’ton in 14 years, I’ve been there dozens of times and really like the place.

Are UC fans obnoxious? We can be, but not with the superiority complex the typical O$U fan spews. If the UC crowd ends up being large, I could see us getting on the annoyingly loud side, and there’s this one cheer that you’ll grow to despise. You’ll know it when you hear it.

I’d be disappointed if there aren’t more than a few thousand bearcat fans present.

For UC fans, trips to Memphis and New Orleans were as much for the party as they were for the game. I’m not getting a party vibe for this one - it’s about the game.

Btown has only gotten better. The tailgate scene is professional grade. The restaurant, bar and musice scene is second to none. The campus is exquisite.

A good team comes in and brings 5,000 fans they are going to make some noise. You will find the vast majority of IU fans to be friendly and generally humble about FB (how could we not be) but damned excited about the direction of the program. There will be some drunk dick head for sure but IU fans are generally very good hosts.

Let's hope both are undefeated on gameday.

Certain parts of Bloomington have gotten better…the parts you’ll see have. But Bloomington as a whole is getting some pretty dang shady areas…I hate to see it.

Yeah, they don’t have a problem missing a payment or two on their double wide just so they can go to a game. Worst fans in the country

Relax Grasshopper. IU just had it's best Season in decades by a wide margin, so your experience of the Program is quite a bit different than most. Just wait - another Season or two like the last and there's going to be talk about further expanding Memorial Stadium to meet demand.

I’d like to see more suites before more seats.

IU could absolutely sell suites. The Pressbox could be redone and widened with the bottom two stories being suites. Technology changes have reduced the footprint that the "press" part of the structure needs to be. I imagine 40 suites would be a good start.

Suites and other upgraded seating across the entire west stand, with the press/media center fully integrated instead of looking like someone dropped a crackerbox up there.

Does anyone know if there is a blueprint or master plan for suites (East or west) or even an upgraded lower club section on the west side?

Honest question - what is an actual timeline to build that correlates with attendance/team success?

Looking at new and renovated stadiums, it's clear that more varied, higher end seating options sell. More suites are needed at Memorial stadium, but not just more suites - loge boxes, table top options, actual seats with backs, field level options, seating options that provide unique experiences and provide fans with multiple tiers of increasing comfort and entertainment. They've done some of this with both end zones, but we don't have nearly as many seating options as lots of other places.

Unrelated, I'll forever be frustrated that they built the north and south end zones in different architectural styles. Had a great chance to really make a cohesive stadium and couldn't get it right. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it over what was, but *sigh*
